Help Wendy Wilde make history in Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District. For over a decade our so-called moderate congressman has gotten a free ride in his reelection bids to the U.S. Congress. But this year is different. Wendy Wilde can be the first democratic congressional candidate to actually break the $50,000 barrier in well over a decade. She’s only $2,000 away. Please help us break this barrier with a contribution of any size from $5 to $500. You can donate here: Help Elect Mom!
This is literally a David vs. Goliath battle. For many years big-money and high-profile insider democrats have refused to support democratic 3rd district congressional candidates believing that Jim Ramstad was a moderate, mostly because Jim told them he was. And he is a compassionate guy in befriending fellow substance abusers as an AA sponsor, but that is a separate issue from his performance in Congress.
Jim Ramstad’s voting record is anything but moderate. He voted 82% with Bush in 2005. Jim Ramstad voted for the gay marriage ban, voted to loosen US rules on torture, voted to cut Veterans care and benefits, voted only 40% of the time to protect the environment, voted for Medicare Part D, continues to support the President’s war in Iraq, and has flip-flopped on education from year to year with a 6 year education vote record of only 53%. Now he just won’t give a clear answer on whether he supports Social Security privatization or not.
Wendy Wilde’s campaign has been imaginative, enthusiastic, and very grounded in bi-partisan American values. Her common sense approach and heartfelt values appeal not just to Democrats, but to Greens, Independents, and moderate Republicans, too. Wendy has almost thirty years experience as a radio broadcaster, including several years at Minnesota powerhouse WCCO and the local Air America station. Wendy’s a mom and a community leader who founded and runs a non-profit teen center to keep local teens busy and safe on weekends.
In 2004, this congressional district had the second highest number of republicans voting for democrats in the country. Kerry won 48% of the vote and carried many traditionally moderate and blue-blood republican strongholds. Our 2004 candidate broke the 30% barrier with 34% of the congressional vote and raised just under $35,000 in a 4 month campaign. Wendy will have run a six month campaign when all is said and done.
Wendy swept the DFL endorsement with 98.5% of the votes after a lengthy debate with 2 opposing candidates. On September 12, Wendy Wilde carried 77% of the vote to win the Primary Election and will be the only opponent to 16-year Republican incumbent Jim Ramstad in the General Election on November 7, 2006.
Contribute today! Help us build the strength to challenge this 16 year not-so-moderate Minnesota Congressman, and help us Elect Mom to Congress.
