this diary is dedicated to all who suffer because of war
we love and support our troops, just as we love and support the Iraqi people – without exception, or precondition, or judgement.

Dead Man, Dead Man
by Bob Dylan
Uttering idle words from a reprobate mind,
Clinging to strange promises, dying on the vine,
Never bein’ able to separate the good from the bad,
Ooh, I can’t stand it, I can’t stand it,
It’s makin’ me feel so sad.
Dead man, dead man,
When will you arise?
Cobwebs in your mind,
Dust upon your eyes.
Satan got you by the heel, there’s a bird’s nest in your hair.
Do you have any faith at all? Do you have any love to share?
The way that you hold your head, cursin’ God with every move,
Ooh, I can’t stand it, I can’t stand it,
What are you tryin’ to prove?
Dead man, dead man,
When will you arise?
Cobwebs in your mind,
Dust upon your eyes.
The glamour and the bright lights and the politics of sin,
The ghetto that you build for me is the one you end up in,
The race of the engine that overrules your heart,
Ooh, I can’t stand it, I can’t stand it,
Pretending that you’re so smart.
Dead man, dead man,
When will you arise?
Cobwebs in your mind,
Dust upon your eyes.
What are you tryin’ to overpower me with, the doctrine or the gun?
My back is already to the wall, where can I run?
The tuxedo that you’re wearin’, the flower in your lapel,
Ooh, I can’t stand it, I can’t stand it,
You wanna take me down to hell.
Dead man, dead man,
When will you arise?
Cobwebs in your mind,
Dust upon your eyes.

a personal note: I’ve been listening to lots of Dylan lately. Dylan, and Mozart’s Requiem. It’s been a heavy time.
I’ve learned that a very close friend, a woman who’s been a wise and loving older sister to me for over 30 years, now has extensive liver involvement from the colon cancer that she was first treated for a year ago. I’ve been keeping that news at arm’s length – the first stage of grief is denial.
And while our patients at work are always very acutely ill and injured, they seem even more so these days.
Lots of folks have asked here, in different ways, if posting these diaries was emotionally difficult for me; and have urged me to take care. I always insisted that the emotional toil was minimal – how stressful can cutting and pasting be? – and assured them that I could handle it.
Well, guess what?
I don’t know if it was my work, my friend, or the discussions leading to the legalization and codification of torture – with all decisions regarding maltreatment resting in the hands of a single person – but something pushed me over the edge, and I simply didn’t have the will until yesterday.
Thanks for your kind words, your support, and your presence in these diaries.

The candle that DianeL first lit many months ago, and which has become such an important part of these diaries since, is still available here.
You can copy that image into your own comment (you can leave it on my server), craft your own image, and/or rate this one – not for mojo, but to leave a small mark after taking this moment – as a sign that you know, but do not approve, and are not resigned.

I am so sorry about your dear friend and the toll it has taken on you while doing these diaries. know that I love you dearly and appreciate what you do for us. I will hold your friend and you in my thoughts. Please, take good care of yourself and know that you come first before these diaries my friend. Peace.
Jerry, I wish you and your friend well. Words aren’t enough to say how I feel for you and with you. Your contribution here, with these diaries, has taken a toll on all of us, I know. There have been some days when I could not bear to even click on another day’s news of violence and death. But we must do so when we can bear it at all. We must all recognize what is being done in our name as Americans, and we must keep our outrage. I thank you for your efforts to keep this front and center.
However, I do very much believe that we also have to keep hope alive, too. Hope for a better day and a better world. Hope for the alleviation of suffering and for the eradication of disease, locally and globally. My hopes today are specifically with your friend and with you.

Jerry, even the strongest of us bends sometimes, under enough heavy weight. If we didn’t, we’d not be fully human.
Sometimes it helps to share the load. These diaries that you have so faithfully put up here for all of us and all who suffer from war, are important and I know that I for one, would be more than happy to be on call as needed, if you ever want or need a break. Just let me know at scribe40@comcast.net.
Meanwhile, you are being held close in my heart, as is your big sister and all who are suffering.

None of what is presently happening on this planet, nor much in the past, has Anything To Do with any ‘Religious’ Ideology!
Religion is used to justify everything that Most should Condemn but because of any religious undertones is than Propagandized to make as many as possible Except the actions as ‘Gods Will’, and many of us supposedly Intelligent Human Animals ‘Do’!!
This so called ‘Jesus{?} Camp’ is nothing more than the Enhancement of the Sick Ego’s of those that do these types things. It’s Pure ‘Brain Washing’ and ‘Propaganda’ at it’s Extreme, again to Build Up the Twisted Ego’s of supposed Religious, Compassionant, Intelligent{?}, etc. Adults with their Twisted Idea’s of ‘They Are Right and All Others Are Wrong!’!!
Those who Prey on the Innocent Child are Nothing More than Child Molesters in the same league with the Child Beater, Child Sexual Predator, etc. etc. etc.. Preying on the Weakest Amoung The Human Race, who take their Learning and Examples, of Life, by Observing and Listening to how Adults Act and Think as they navigate from birth through their early years in this World they have joined.
These ‘Predators’ use a Religious Ideology to twist the young minds to their Bidding thus turning the Normal into the Abnormal Human Being!!
If this wasn’t so tragic, from any religious fanatic or just fanatic, it would be funny, Definantly not for the Children, but definantly for the fools that come up with these twisted views, as Colbert Does Below.

Peace and Blessings to you, your family and your friend Jerry. Be well my friend.
Rub, I do understand, as I am sure we all understand, how you have got to be feeling now. We will always be here for you. I too have had some difficulty with a lot of that is going on nowadays and with my work. I recently took a different position and had to to get away from the pressures and demands put upon me for otherwise I was gonna breakdown. We are human after all. YOu are human after all. We have to take care of ourselves first, before we can take care of others. The external stressors placed on us on a daily basis, affects us in our jobs, even tho we try not to let it. The wisdom is to know when to back off or get out or away before you[me][we]break.
I understand..just please do take great care of yourself….good to have you back anytime.
NOw to the Iraqi situation, this has got to stop sometime. It is not good which is happening. We [America] is not doing any good by being there. The last survey proves this. They want us gone. This adm gave some sort of standards all along by first having elections, then getting that gov. to get a constitution and then to get their gov up and running….well now they have got all that…no matter what the situation is, we need to leave. When the death stops, is when I believe things will go well. As long as we stay the death will not ever stop. I do not know what will happen if we do leave, but one thing I do know is we are not doing any good by being there. Our ppl now have targets on their backs. It is only gonna get worse. lots of hugs…to you and to your friend. My sincere prayers are with you all.
Hang in there, Rub!
These are depressing times for so many of us; getting such grave news of your sister is a heavy, extra burden. Take care, Jerry!
