Pretty good weekend. I got the grass cutting finshed yesterday and now have to get some stuff done for a fund raiser later this week and another on on the 11th. I have to see iof I can schedual the 4th off as I have been asked to record a debate and will use it on my podcast.
Ah, good to be able to sleep late.
It’s busy, FM. curly and I were back from our excursion late Thursday. Back at work Friday and heading in now for a hectic week.
Good morning to Andi, Refinish, Ask, FM (nice to see you back regularly) and Olivia (sorry about the grind). Hope life’s treating you all well.
I’ve got an early dental apointment, but it’s mitigated a bit by Laura having brought me my tea and laptop in bed to get me moving this morning. Tastes like Empire Keemun, but I won’t know for sure until I get downstairs.
Book news continues well with more good reviews still trickling in and steady solid Amazon numbers (which don’t really tell me anything, but they’re reassuring). Again, I’ll be out more than in. Family continues at the high end of the stress meter and I’ve got an invited talk to write (St Louis), a reading to organize (Mpls), and a workshop to write (Mpls writing combat).
Slow but steady progess on the new manuscipt which my writers group thinks is the best thing I’ve written today. Wish I had more time for it. Sigh. Gotta run now, but I’ll check back to read even if I don’t have time to post.
Hey Kelly, been waiting to see you for a while (probably more my fault than yours). I finally made it over to the megabookstore chain in our local mall and got a copy of Webmage. First edition, too.
Now I just need to make some time to read it. This last week before I re-enter the rat race is going to be busy indeed.
I still LOVE my job and the people I work with… Portland Monthly magazine listed the top 20 places to work in Portland and my job was #7. 🙂
Going out to hear Cindy speak tonight – before that – there’s a bridge protest. Today is CodePink’s 4th Birthday. I hope it doesn’t get ugly, but I think we’re beyond that nowadays.
Good on you and the people you work for! Sounds like you landed in the right spot. I’ve got a lot of interesting but tiring emotional stuff going on so won’t be able to join you-good luck!
Thanks “soup, the response to what’s going on tonight has been overwhelming. Many people are so pissed off… finally. Others who have been out there since day one are joining the bridge protest too.
Get some rest 🙂
and yeah… the friendliest store in town…. is fantastic to work for 🙂
I’m thinking there’s some serious protesting in my (still fairly distant) future since the Repubs have decided to have their 2008 convention in my backyard. What did Minnesota ever do to deserve that?
The phrase “Better Living Through Chemistry” is a variant of a DuPont advertising slogan, “Better Things for Better Living…Through Chemistry.” DuPont adopted it in 1939 and was their slogan until the 1980s when the “Through Chemistry” bit was dropped; in 1999 it was replaced by “The miracles of science”.
This phrase became popular as culture shifted from mod to hippie in the later half of the 1960s. Protesters would show up for a rally, perhaps to protest a chemical plant, wearing DuPont propaganda buttons, which bore this slogan, while high on LSD, Quaaludes or other man-made drugs.
Protests in the 1960s didn’t all revolve around the Vietnam War; Dow Chemical and DuPont were common targets, as people disliked the “artificiality” they represented, not to mention the fact that DuPont did manufacture napalm.
The phrase “Better Living Through Chemistry” was used on products that were not affiliated with DuPont to circumvent trademark infringement. This transmutation is now more commonly used than the original. This statement is used for commentary on several different topics, from the promotion of illegal drugs, to the praise of chemicals and plastics, to the criticism of the same, sarcastically.
Morning Miss Andi!!!
And a good morning to you. Hope you had a good weekend.

I am also still raising funds for the 2006 AIDS WALK!!! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Click on the design to donate.
Good (?) morning, Andi and refinish!
A whole week ahead of us.
That there is. And the older I get, the faster they seem to go.
True, that’s the consolation.
Good morning Anid, Refinish and Ask.
Sorry Andi, still not awake. 🙂
Good morning, FM.
It’s hard to get started..
Morning again Ask.
I’ve been sleeping late here for some reason.
How’ve you been doing?
Ah, good to be able to sleep late.
It’s busy, FM. curly and I were back from our excursion late Thursday. Back at work Friday and heading in now for a hectic week.
I used to hate to go straight back to work after a vacation. Always like a day or two at home.
You take it easy today and slack when possible.
Good to see you. I hope it’s not too hectic.
Back to grind … ugh. 🙂
Good morning Olivia.
Are you talking coffee or work. 🙂
I freshly ground some coffee for my presspot this am, and I’m taking it to work w/ me … 🙂
Speaking of which I better run. Have a good day … I’ll catch up w/ you soon. 🙂
Have a good day at work.
Later.
That photo brings to mind a song…
Hold me closer, tiny dancer… 🙂
I’ve got to start on getting things straightened around here.
Everybody have a good day in the pond.

TTFN,
Kelly
Sounds like you’ve got a busy week ahead of you too!

Now I just need to make some time to read it. This last week before I re-enter the rat race is going to be busy indeed.
I hope you enjoy it. Hopefully, come January when I’m out in your neck of the woods, I’ll get a chance to sign it for you.
I still LOVE my job and the people I work with… Portland Monthly magazine listed the top 20 places to work in Portland and my job was #7. 🙂

My co-workers have given me a nickname… LOL…
It’s supposedly depicts my high energy, smile and peace/policits.
They call me “HARDCORE” 😀
My job said not to worry about tonight’s protests. That if I get arrested or injured – that my job will still be there. No worries. 🙂
Good on you and the people you work for! Sounds like you landed in the right spot. I’ve got a lot of interesting but tiring emotional stuff going on so won’t be able to join you-good luck!

Now that’s the kind of place to work for.
Why would things get ugly? Certainly not just because it’s CP’s fourth birthday. And do you guys have anything planned for Thursday?
Ugly because now the Regime and the Police have full power to do what they want with “dissenters” and “enemies of the administration”.
Thursday, the World Can’t Wait has much in store here in Portland.
Ugly because now the Regime and the Police have full power to do what they want with “dissenters” and “enemies of the administration”.
Oh, that.
Well, if they send you to Gitmo try to get a cell next to mine. I wonder if they’ll let me bring in my banjo.
LOL . . . “Hardcore.” Can’t imagine why they chose that.
One of my bosses likes to “dish it out”… but I found that it’s really easy to make him blush without even trying 🙂
Harcore happy. High energy. Plus the younglings seem dazzled by the fact I went to DC/Ft. Lewis… etc etc.
Plus… I like hockey.
They are seeing another side to the Peace Movement… and I Think they like it. 🙂
when you bring your special cookies to the Xmas party.
Hope you’ll bring us back some pics from your meetup with Cindy.
I’m thinking there’s some serious protesting in my (still fairly distant) future since the Repubs have decided to have their 2008 convention in my backyard. What did Minnesota ever do to deserve that?
Beware, those Republican Conventions my friend! Many people get hurt just wearing a t-shirt near them.
Give em hell, KMc 🙂
We love ya, man!
EW! That looks like coffee gone bad
how’d you guess? 😉
I’m gonna don the froggybottom suit in a few to get rid of it
My first reaction was that that was a pot of coffee, my second was that it was a petri dish. Since I don’t drink from either, care to clarify?
Morning all.
Could someone close the curtains, it’s a bit bright for first thing in the morning.
It’s a pot of coffee and a petri dish! Sort of like being a floor wax and a dessert topping.
Sort of like being a floor wax and a dessert topping.
Welcome to the promised land of “better living through chemistry.” Anyone else remember when that was Monsanto’s slogan?
That wasn’t Monsanto, that was DuPont. Wikipedia:
go with the first reaction, although the second is not that far off considering the state of the carafe.
Good morning, keres!
