At least here in LA and we’re trying to get Angelides in the governor’s house. I’m hosting a little happy hour for non-political single women tomorrow night. Gotta drop some knowledge on these ladies. Should be interesting.
hey Fabooj, nice idea to reach out to single women. Please let us know how it turns out. Despite the naysaying efforts of all the broadcast and print media I’ve seen in the Bay Area, I still think Angelides has a chance. He’s finally got some decent advertising out and, well, Californians as a whole are not stupid.
Got 2 ladies interested in canvassing here in SoCal and emailed them info on Angelides and Bowen. Got an email this morning from another who wanted to know what she could about some of the props, 85 and 87 to be specific. I sent her links because I didn’t know.
This was the least I could do. I thought I’d be able to do a lot more volunteering for Angelides this month, but we’re swamped with work and everyone in my household is sick, so the only time I have free is about 45 min. starting at 10:30pm.

The munchkin is mostly doing OK. Right now she’s in hot water for not turning in some of her homework she didn’t do, and then trying to cover it up. We’re trying to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Sneaky, sneaky…That’s something I can definitely see my little girl doing. I hope she learns her lesson (HAHA) and does her homework from now on.
My poor kid…her school has an on-line program called “Powerschool” which allows me to not only check all of her grades, but each and every homework assignment is recorded as well. I love it, but I can imagine some kids are less than thrilled about it. I also would hazard a guess that kids are less likely to not do their homework or try and cover it up when they know their parent(s) can not only see whether they did it, but see the grade they received as well.
My kids are not thrilled with our school’s version of it…because it makes it so easy for me to check and see if they’re doing all of their work.
Of course, they are much better about getting things done when their weekend plans depend on what I see in their grades. So I like it.
keep the little ones on their toes when there is communication between home and school. The info is nice, but the key is how it is used. It works when there are consistently applied, clearly understood, and reasonable consequences. Omir, what were the consequences with munchkin’s brush with deception?
I have only one student whose family has web access. At least they claim to, but I have yet to receive any of the email the kid says Mom has sent.
My solution is a weekly newsletter that includes the homework for the week, last week’s quiz grades, returned homework info, behavior reports, individualized answers to personal questions, upcoming events, a few short articles, some exemplary student work, and contact info. It has a tear off signature section that must be returned on Tuesday. The newsletter goes out every Monday.
Consequences are simple and clear: Return parent signature section, go to GYM on Tues. Do the nights homework, go to GYM, Music or art the next day.
If not, sit out the special subject and do homework.
Works pretty well, but is ton of clerical work for me. I would prefer a web solution, but my families are not are line.

Or they’re very worried about the state of affairs. These people always tease me about talking politics all the time. I try not to, but dammit if they’re going to complain about something, then I think they should know who’s responsible. I opened our little meeting with that, I explained to them why as single women they are one of the most neglected groups, but one of the most affected by policies. I got them to discuss what they were most concerned about and I had my laptop, so I could surf while we talked and go drunk. The bonus was that we also got the people around us interested too, though I didn’t pursue them, just let them listen in.
I’m just so pleased about retaking the House and it’s looking good for getting the Senate back too. Hot Diggity Dog!
