Hey dada,
Elvin Bishop is awesome. I saw him here at a large charity biker run, & he had the crowd jumping. He`d come out in the audience & pick a nice girl to strum his axe while he do the chord changes. That meant that he always had his arms wrapped around her, seemingly, more to his benefit.
He put on a great show. I`m glad you were able to get in close & enjoy the tunes as well as being priviledged to take these shots. A trip, I`m sure.
yeah, he ALWAYS gets a ‘babe’ out of the crowd and brings them on stage…puts on a great show. They played almost 2 hrs…ran a bit over the allotted closing time…but hey, the cows were late!
Had my first Media/Photo Pass for this fest…got me backstage and photo pit access in front of the stage…way fun, very long day and shot about 300 pics…earplugs required…:{)
Built for comfort, not for speed, and the most amazing set of pipes I’ve heard in years…this lady’s gonna be BIG if she gets a chance. Monster gospel singer as well.
my bud Dan Treanor with his group African Wind w/ Rex Peeples on vocal on the Back Porch Stage, which was all local musicians that would do 30-40 min sets while they changed up on the main stage at the opposite end of the arena so all ya had to do was turn around-way kewl…non-stop music for 14 hrs…Dan’s playing harp on this one
LEAD GUITARIST
Very subduded, laid back stage presence, stayed out of the spots, very intense and played like a BAMF.

I have every record that the Butterfield Blues Band made. Thanks for the photos of Bishop.
The way the light hits the guitar and his face … very kewl.

Hah! Built for comfort, not for speed…this is calling to me as my new motto.

Formerly of New Orleans, now residing in Florida. Learned how to play from the the great Son House…one of the contemporary masters of slide guitar.

Sans band…they got lost, did a really outstanding solo set. Great songwriter and a premier keyboardist

Great idea for a shot.
This one I find particularly imaginative – the lines, the light reflections – cool balanced by the warmth of a hand.
Wonderful collection of photos – thanks.
Second Headliner, went on just before Elvin Bishop, tore the place up. Set the bar real high for Elvin…killer show!

Yet another refugee from New Orleans, now living in the Denver area. Classic Bluesman, class act all round.

Thanks for the portraits of these musicians.
I’ve definitely got the blues now! Thanks so much.
Fabulous!!!!!
That must have been a great concert!
I love the first two shots especially. They remind me of the shots of musicians that Blue Note put on its album covers.
Great pics, I know what I’m listening to today when I head out to take my photos. Willie Houston!!!
This diary needs a soundtrack and then it would be perfect.
hey d — got any youtube links?
