My job is to take photos of proposed wireless sites. Something in this photo must be one of those site, but I just like how the hazy sun gives everything a shadow.
Imperial Hwy…this pic is a few miles from LAX. I finally realized the proposed cell site. I just took this the other day!
Interesting area, low income to be sure. I had mentioned on DK how my friend’s son’s school had all but abandoned recess. This school is in a very high-income area, supposedly a good school. The elementary schoold down the street from this site offerd karate classes to the students. A whole group of kids came out in their gi’s ready to go. Very nice!
You know, when I saw it, I had to sit on the sidewalk a laugh. There’s just so much going on; the tennis shoes, the flag and why, oh why is the hot dog putting ketchup on it’s head? I ponder these things when I lay awake at night.
Hate New York City
It’s cold and it’s damp
And all the people dressed like monkeys
Let’s leave Chicago to the Eskimos
That town’s a little bit too rugged
For you and me you bad girl
Rollin’ down the Imperial Highway
With a big nasty redhead at my side
Santa Ana winds blowin’ hot from the north
And we as born to ride
Roll down the window put down the top
Crank up the Beach Boys baby
Don’t let the music stop
We’re gonna ride it till we just can’t ride it no more
From the South Bay to the Valley
From the West Side to the East Side
Everybody’s very happy
‘Cause the sun is shining all the time
Looks like another perfect day
I love L.A. (We love it)
I love L.A. (We love it)
Look at that mountain
Look at those trees
Look at that bum over there, man
He’s down on his knees
Look at these women
There ain’t nothin’ like ’em nowhere
Century Boulevard (We love it)
Victory Boulevard (We love it)
Santa Monica Boulevard (We love it)
Sixth Street (We love it, we love it)
The ceiling of the courtyard between the museum and the IMAX theatre. We’re on our way over there today, so I plan on taking a B&W to see how that turns out.Click image for larger version.
A piece of a 9 piece 360 degree panorama. My husband shot this, and kept my friend’s kid in the same area of each photo. If he ever pieces them together, it should be a cool image.
On
your way to Palm Springs via the 60 Fwy., there is this
elephant. It took me about 4 years before I was
convinced that’s what it was. Lucky for me traffic was
heavy this day and I got a pic of the metal elephant
standing guard over the entrance to Riverside County.
I saw the dancers getting ready to go on stage and snapped a quick pic. Got home and realized it was sort of blurry, but that lends a more dreamy quality to their dresses.
dresses are from the Vera Cruz Region of Mexico. They are very elegant and oftentimes the folklorico performers use asian-style fans and candles in the performances. La Bamba, made popular by Los Lobos, is actually a traditional song from that part of the country. here’s a YouTube showing some great footwork.
Sigh…I’m already feeling the withdrawals from live mariachi music and it’s only been about a month. Thanks for the additional pix, fabooj!
Thanks, I used to do folklorico dances growing up in my mostly Latino suburb. If you had spent today with me, you would have been begging the mariachi to go away. In fact, I headed over to Little Tokyo to get away from them. The quality of mariachi here in LA has definitely declined and to make matters worse, they see “American” and only offer to play La Bamba, La Cucaracha, or Guanatamera. When I ask them to play other songs and sing the words with them, it’s like their heads explode or something. And invariably, I get, “But you’re black! (really?) How do you know these songs?” Ay-yi-yi.
Don’t laugh. It makes me want to cry. We first noticed it about 4 years ago, but since we had our first kid, it’s been really bad. It’s gotten to the point that we don’t even eat at our favorite Mexican restaurants anymore. I love to sing Cielito Lindo to my daughter and once asked a group to sing it for us. They looked at me, looked at my husband and said, “You know that’s not La Cucaracha, right?” “Play. The. Damn. Song.”, I said through clenched teeth. They did, I sang and they actually stopped a verse in when they realized I knew the words.
chuckle of irony more than amusement. The words are powerful in all of the rancheras – they tell the tale of the people – the struggles, hopes, loves, losses – my nana used to call it el alma del corazon. Thanks again for your pix, fabooj! paz

This was taken on Thursday, the first day of the Esperanza fire. I had to take it through my windshield as I was doing about 75mph at the time.

If a photo can capture heat, this one does. It is an uncomfortably great shot.
One of the coolest things about LA’s ever changing streetscapes is the juxtaposition of old architeture and new.Click image for larger version.
Another wireless site, I loved the shadows from the trees.

Who thought this was a great idea? And still, someone bought it.

proof yet again that there’s no accounting for taste.

I really do…it’s a world unto itself.
Great pic’s fab!
Another sunset through my

so the Cucaracha Bug has infected the mariachis over there too? I thought it was a Tucson thing. ha, I’m gonna be chuckling all night now. 😀
(my all-time favorite song is Gema, followed closely by Amor de los Dos)
