I’ve been a lurker of late. The damn elections. And sometimes, watching crap unfold, you just can’t help but throw in your two cents. My two cents are cross-posted in Orange
Looking at the MSM’s coverage of the attack on Mike Stark today, I’ve been struck by the lack of serious concern for Stark’s rights.
“A fight kind of unfolded. . . . The Senator was rushed to the back. He [Allen] is okay,” local NBC reporter Henry Graff said as the tape of the assault on Stark played in the background.
Of course, the progressive blogosphere understands that Mike Stark was assaulted because he was trying to assert a very basic First Amendment right to question his government. But from the initial NBC affiliate report, through the early print media accounts, the story seemed subtly spun as “Allen saved from rabid blogger.”
I can live with that, I suppose. I’ve come to expect it from almost all MSM news reporting. But where I draw the line is when the police agencies designed to protect the citizenry seem to mimic the “attack the victim” mentality of the media.
Stark reported the assault to the appropriate authorities. And this is their official response:
“We will find out who the people are, give him the information and he can go to the magistrate and try to obtain a warrant for them,” Charlottesville Police Lt. Gary Pleasants told the Post.
Taken from the Raw Story account via the Washington Post.
Since when do police officers respond to assault victims by saying, “Yeah, we’ll get the name of the guys who did it, and then you can try to prosecute this situation if you want.”
Is that what they tell victims of Domestic Violence in Virginia? Is it what they tell old women who are mugged?
There is evidence that a crime was committed. An unwanted battery. Perhaps there is a defense. Perhaps Stark did something more than ask a question of his Senator to invoke the attack. Perhaps the attackers had some legal authority to use force as they did. But the evidence in the public record says that there is probable cause that a battery was committed. A battery that may have been committed by the agents of a Senator. A Senator with a history of insensitivity and apparent favor for questionable uses of force. Such evidence ought to be met by the authorities with something more than, “Yeah, you handle it yourself.” There ought to be a full investigation. Reports ought to be forwarded to a prosecutor. And a charge should be authorized or not. If the police and prosecuting officials are incapable of setting politics aside to conduct the necessary investigation, and to make the necessary determinations, then the case should be assigned to a non-interested agency with no such conflict. But an important right is at stake. And it shouldn’t be laughed off by a half-assed investigation.
Fringe elements on the far right and the far left sometimes speculate about a politically fueled civil war. Taking it to the streets. Getting the guns out. The failure to seriously investigate this battery encourages that reality. Because if this incident ends with a “no harm, no foul” verdict, then the next time one of us is out exercising our legitimate rights to question our officials, and some wing-nut cadre decides they want to manhandle us, some of us are going to have to seriously think about defending ourselves. Stark showed admirable restraint today. But if assaults are the new norm, then reasonable defense is the new solution.
So we ought to encourage Virginia’s finest to do their job. If you are not too busy with your GOTV efforts, perhaps you’ll give the Charlottesville Police Chief a call tomorrow. He encourages us to call for quality of service issues. (434) 970-3289.
Here’s to Stark. And a more perfect union.
I am NOT blogging. Just observating on something that really pissed me off.
must’ve been ringing because I was chatting with a peace sister yesterday about you. Hope all is well (even if you’re not-blogging, just observating) π
This is not a warm response to a missed friend. It’s just me typing a bit.
Send my regards to the peace sister. Best.
Why didn’t you just write “Ceci n’est pas un blogpost” and be done with it?
‘Bout time you showed up around here. Come November 9th you need to tell us what you’ve been up to lately.
Oh, and I’d say welcome back if you were blogging. Which you’re not. So I won’t.
Hey Omir. How are you? Just popping in to say, hey I guess. Been browsing lately because of elections. And this issue just pushed my buttons. They’re have been a couple, where it has been difficult to keep my fingers silent. I’m particularly bothered by the attacks on Greens at Kos. But I managed, until now, to stay quiet.
Good to see you here.
I’m sure I’ll post some thoughts from time to time. But I haven’t been doing much of note. Sitting and watching this crazy world go by, is all.
Take it easy.
dKos is a hostile environment for anyone who isn’t a centrist dem. Or anyone who has the nerve to question the democrat’s positions and voting records. They (kossacks) have latched onto one incident where a green candidate’s funds were provided mostly by republicans as a way to broad brush all greens as traitors to the left. Ironic since the greens hold tighter to left principles than the democrats do. I haven’t seen any coverage there about the green candidate who dropped out of the Shays race in Connecticut to help out the dem candidate. The greens could be a big source of support and votes for the democrats. But a party bent on shifting to the right continues to alienate their natural allies.
True, true. Oh well. We’ll see if things get a little better after election season. Hope.
It’s a shame too, because I like the Green platform and seriously considered throwing my weight in with them at one time when I started investigating this politics thing.
Unfortunately Greens seem to not be doing themselves any favors, I’m not just talking about Nader’s candidacy, either, which is the main stick people use to whip the Greens with; I’m talking about things like allowing themselves to be used by the GOP in Pennsylvania, or choosing Aaron Dixon as their Senate candidate here in Washington:
I’m a little surprised that the article doesn’t mention my main criticism of Dixon, which comes from a Seattle Weekly article that indicated that up until the time he announced his candidacy, Dixon had apparently never poarticipated in electoral politics. No one could find a record of him ever having voted anywhere he’s ever lived, if I remember right. His campaign has been lackluster at best, with coverage outside his arrest at the debate seemingly limited to the final paragraph in stories about the Cantwell and McGavick and a single yard sign that was up for about two days.
The Greens have done a few things right. A couple of the members of the Seattle School Board, including chairman Brita Butler-Wall (mentioned in the Dixon Wikipedia article) are Greens. I liked what I saw of David Cobb during the 2004 election. But the Greens have got to be smarter and more serious about building a national party if they want to be anything more than a political footnote.
Mike rocked on “Countdown” with KO tonight…he mentioned that Allen’s campaign is considering charges against him. If you hear of a legal defense fund being set up, let me know — I think I’ve got a few pennies left that didn’t go to campaign donations… π
Good to see you — saw a post that said you’ve got another book in the works? Best of luck on that… π
I didn’t get a chance to see him on Countdown. Perhaps I’ll catch the late version. Cool he made it on. I was completely figuring they would be pressing charges against Mike. Best defense is a good offense, and all that.
Yeah. A legal defense fund. All-pond. And me and blueneck could go to VA pro hac vice and give it our best shot.
Good to see you, too. Don’t know what will happen with next book. Still waiting. But I’ll definitely share news should there ever be any.
Gonna go flip on tube, wait to see Mike, and work on a hearing for Friday. G’night. Good Luck!
What in FSM’s name for??
He showed up at a campaign event.
He called out questions.
The whole thing is on tape.
The only reason I can think of to countercharge would be for Allen, who probably has some deep pockets in and around his person, to SLAPP Mike into submission.
As a public figure (and a politician at that) Allen is in a different category than you or I might be. And I dare say if Allen tries to SLAPP Mike down, the ACLU would probably get involved faster than you can say Bob’s-yer-uncle.
Good to see you, BostonJoe.
I also reacted to the bit about the police when first reading it.
Police Lt. Gary Pleasants needs to be exposed for beeing such a tool. Bad pun; but the near future may not be all that pleasant.
Good to see you too ask. That guy’s statement is what got me. How can a good citizen sitting at his keyboard read those words and not write a dang story asking for action? It’s not BLOGGING. It’s just. . . just. . . a normal reaction.
Hey Joe, was so excited to see you here..unless there is more to the video I saw it sure looks like Stark was assaulted for asking a simple question(about if Allen had spit on his now ex-wife) as for the po-lice it seems like more and more they are becoming the arm of the government for the government, certainly not protecting the people..unless you’re the ‘right kind’ of people.
Good to see you too CI.
I was just writing at Kos. We have seemed to forget that these people — these legislators of ours — are not emperors or kings or gods. They’re our servants. This is a free land. Liberty. Democracy. We’re entitled to call them to account in public. To ask our legitimate questions loudly. To demand answers.
And yet, this assault is routinely accepted. Maybe we are going to wake up soon. This nightmare is going to end. Hope.
G’night. Happy Halloween!
Seems to me like we have an assault and battery here, with much more evidence that a crime was committed than if someone were to be mugged in a back alley in Richmond. If I were Mike I’d ask for criminal charges against John Doe 1-x and George Felix Allen as their de facto employer (whether they’re employees or volunteers, doesn’t really matter). And identifying the assailants should be as easy as showing up at Allen’s next rally.
The parallels are quite striking with the incident Michael Schiavo recounted over at Big Orange the other day. For those who didn’t see the diary, he went to a debate between Marilyn Musgrave (who was one of the shrillest voices calling for intervention in the case of his wife Terri) and her opponent Angie Paccione. As the debate ended a group of staffers formed a ring around Schiavo and shouted “We Love You Marilyn!” and similar slogans as Musgrave rushed out a side entrance, obviously keeping Schiavo away from Musgrave. (Schiavo was quick to point out that Paccione stuck around and shook hands and answered questions for about an hour afterward.)
I didn’t see the Schiavo bit. I’m incredibly under-informed, being a consumer of MSM news. I think I saw this congresswoman though, and a guy asking her interview questions. Until her female staffer stuck a hand on the camera to shut him out.
I guess we have elected a royalty. These are big people. Don’t want to be wallering with the masses. Be nice if out leaders weren’t so afraid to talk to the sheeple.
Yeah, that was her. Real piece of work, that one is.
Nice to “see” you Boston Joe….DammitJanet and I were talking about you a couple of days ago. You have been missed.
I’m too ashamed to actually see DJ. She’s been working her heart out for the cause while I wallow in self-pity.
But cool. Thanks for the words. Tell her I said hey if I miss her.
We can just pretend this isn’t a welcome back :o)
I saw the video from the local NBC affiliate yesterday. It was pathetic…and maybe dangerously prophetic as well. He was labelled “liberal blogger” and “heckler” by the station. He should press charges. If he doesn’t, the brownshirt tactics will be legitimized and accepted as a proper way to deal with inconvenient questions. Dissenters are taking it on the chin these days.
I think you can see how these things will be spun by the MSM even before the web is made.
But then, sometimes the truth is on tape. So they are left with things like, “well, you don’t know what happened before the tape started rolling.” Eventually, truth has to trump spin. Right? It just takes years sometimes. Like Iraq. So if Stark keeps it in courtroom, truth will out. I suspect.
Hey Joe – missed you a lot. We’ve nearly gone broke around here without your occassional 2 cents for justice. Better quit that lurking – we need your contributions.
Isn’t it odd how the word Blogger has taken the place of Hippie in the wingnut vituperation?
One time only deal. No follow up engagements to contribute (unless there is another issue that just mandates a $.02 contribution).
Well, I guess I better get my two cents in while you’re here…good to see you NOTblogging, NOTBostonNOTJoe. Like everyone else has already said, you’ve been missed.
<notblogging>Thanks. I missed you guys and this place too. Glad it exists in the world, even when I’m not here. Good to see you. </notblogging>
PS Alice — I think I forgot this comment in what I wrote back to you the first time. Good to see you, too. Didn’t want you to think I was happy to see everyone. (Just not you.) That would have been crappy. Kind of like some Heatherish Machiavellianism or something.
Happy to see everybody at the pond, lest I forget to write that in my typing frenzy.
Unfortunately, the reaction you saw from the police is not all that rare. I have seen many victims of assualt and/or battery who were not “Hurt” brushed off by the police. My guess is that it is the rule rather than the exception.
It is outrageous. What happened to Stark is outrageous. Free speech zones are outrageous. When nine of Senator Domenici’s constituents showed up at his office a few weeks ago to talk about the war in Iraq, building security shut off the elevator trapping them for six hours. Outrageous. And I’ll bet you heard nothing about it.
Our rights and protections are becoming more of a sham day by day.
Yup. My own small tale. When I was a dissenter. When I had a heart. We spent a full week at our Congressman’s office. Marching. Yelling for an end to war. Questioning him directly when we passed.
And what did we get. Locked out of our representatives office. Angry requests to leave. No response whatsoever from the man. But he did put me on his mailing and phone call lists (contact data gleaned from one of the notes I left at his office). He didn’t read the message. Or respond. But at least he took my data. I should feel satisfied. His robo calling voice is very soothing in this election season.
And nobody hears about these countless incidents. You’re right. At least stark made the media. I hope he can keep it going. This can be something like a class action for all the times each of us has been ignored, spit upon, assaulted, shut out. Go Stark!
AMERICAblog provided this link to another video of the incident.

This is so clearly a case of assault and battery. When I heard the thunk Mike’s head made against the window, it made me wince. Mike didn’t even raise his voice until after he’d been attacked. The Allen staffer was smiling as he pushed Mike out the door. Later on this video, Allen clearly thinks the situation was amusing. Because his First Amendment rights were being abused, can’t Mike literaly turn this into a federal case?
BostonJoe: It’s good to “hear” your two cents hitting the table…
Yeah. I saw this clip on another media outlet, too. I tried to post video in my original bit, but it failed. I was rejected by a little Kossian message that said something like, “Fuck you. You haven’t blogged in six months, and you can’t just post youtube stuff like you post the other stuff.” Six months and I’m obsolete. Tech moving too fast.
Anyway. I heard the thunk too. Looking at it again, it seems to be his hand hitting the glass that made the sound. I dunno. But the funny thing about these low grade violence situations. You never know what is going to happen. I say this based on experience. Growing up in the trailer park, we sometimes scuffled. And you never knew when a head was going to hit the bumper of a Pontiac up on blocks in the front yard. These things happen. I remember my father telling me a story (several hundred times) of a man in a fight in the bar of a tavern. Head, meet radiator. As he fell. Coma. That was the legend. And I saw it in cases I’ve touched. Everyone just thinks its an innocent, “I’m grabbing this guy in my favorite WWE hold and slinging to the ground cuz I don’t like his politics (or long hair or whatever),” until the punching bag (er, I mean human being) is impaled on a piece of jutting rebar. Then it’s a whole ‘nother story.
Sorry. I’m having white-trash flashbacks. Damn fingers just won’t stop typing.
Its a good thing you aren’t blogging, cause if you were, I’d be freaked out. Yesterday on my drive home I was thinking about some of the people I miss hearing from here at the pond. And of course, you were one of them I was thinking about. So, if you were blogging, I’d have to wonder whether I have some sort of calling out power, and that would be truly scary. Of course, the good part is that we might shortly also hear from infidelpig, Ductape, and others. That would be all to the good.
<notblogging>I think you may have a calling power. Because I’ve gotten messages from a few people of late. Something seems to be in the air, I suspect. Wierd.
Also, I didn’t want to say anything before. But I am really infidelpig and Ductape. In addition to being BostonJoe. Didn’t you ever wonder why you never saw our names on the same comment. So naturally, when I went in to hibernation (Ed. Note — slightly embarassing note about hibernation: It involves blocking your anus with a mix of partially digested bark, leaves, and other organic matter — the weird science you learn when you are not blogging) these other voices fell silent at nearly the same time. [I jest here — I am not DTF. And I barely know infidelpig. Didn’t mean to slander them. It just struck me funny.]
At any rate. Good to see you. Keep those mental waves broadcasting. They seem to be penetrating my tinfoil hat. So they might actually reach comatose wing-nuts and wake them to the smell of fascism.</notblogging>
Here in bizarro world US, this is what passes for justice. Good to “see” you, Joe.
This place is a hoot. But I’ve got a passport now. I could be anywhere in the world with just a hop skip and a jump through code yellow airport security. So that is comforting. That I’m not stuck here.
It’s going to get better. It’s got to get better.
Good to see you, too.
I’m not glad to not see you not blogging. That’s a thugalicious video, eh?
Thanks. I think. Triple negatives. Get kind of hard to add up.
Good to see you Blueneck. How are things in the south?
Well, since I’m not in the South I’m not able to not tell you nothing about it. It’s not too warm for November and it’s not not raining right now. Other than that, I’m not happy about not having a candidate running against any of the not-public not-servants that I can not vote for. I’m very not pissed.
Whew, that’s a real exercise ya know, all those negatives and stuff, but that’s mostly how I feel right now.
I would leave the South in a heartbeat if there were somewhere better to go to, but it has always bummed me out ever since I was old enough to understand the statement “Wherever you go, there you are” and I’d love to go someplace else where I wouldn’t be there with me because I’m channeling Quentin Compson right now though I’m hopelessly unable to reach the conclusion that he did so I’m doomed hmmm, that’s a nice bridge to live out this life of Southern living, probably to a ripe (and I do mean ripe) how could she do that, I – I just can’t accept that, I mustn’t remember it but I have to or I will forget old age, which means, of course, that I will never overcome the meaninglessness inherent in my father’s philosophy and I will live forever with those infamous words “I hate the South, I hate the South” echoing repeatedly off the last worthless rock cliff until the last ding-dong of personal doom into my ears, notwithstanding the occasional labors of lust and the meaningless ephemeral victories of defeat there is not a damn one of ’em worth voting for in Yoknapatawpha county.
Man. I hit a nerve, huh? Well, I’m glad you’re there. Or not there. You will be a part (nay, a leader) of the new South, rising. I hope.
I’ll share a Southern story. What the south is really about. From a Yankee’s perspective.
My daughter played Scout Finch in a local production of the play “To Kill a Mockingbird.” In the play, Ms. Maudie reminds the children, following Tom Robinson’s conviction, that there are a lot of people who cared about not wrongfully convicting blacks in 1930s Alabama. The judge, the sheriff, Atticus, etc. A good scene. Lots of good people. Everywhere. Like you.
Well, it’s a love-hate thing, no doubt. I do fancy myself as the middle-aged Southern hipster whose philosophy will come into vogue and dominate Mississppi life and politics shortly after his death of old age, hopefully partly because he lived and raised a little hell about all the bullcrap before it was really popular to do so. Maybe, if I get really really good at it, it will happen before I die.
In this current election cycle, with my non-Representative running unopposed and the other offices being contested between ultra-right wingers and almost ultra-right wingers, I really am thinking of skipping the voting thing. It’s hard for me to do that because I really believe in voting in every election, but for the first time in a long time I am totally lost in trying to decide who to vote for. There ain’t a damn one of ’em worth wasting my time on. Really.
We need a new New South.
But, all negatives and negativities aside, I am glad you stopped by the pond and that you allowed me to hang a few words on your diary. Three cheers for Mike Stark. :O) :O) :O)
I’m glad to hear of your daughter and her part in that play. You must be proud of her. I am. TKAM is a truly great piece of fiction and every child and adult should read the book or see the play or the movie, or better yet, do all three. Three cheers for BoJo’s girl. :O) :O) :O)
If you ever get a hankerin’ for a road trip to the Deep South, I’ll show you what it’s like, in all its maddening glory. Bring the family. We actually do have lots of interesting stuff to see in town and within an hours drive of where I live.
If you’re not blogging I hope you’re at least working on the next book. There was a lot to like in the last one.
Yeah. Writing a bit.
Speaking of which, I happened upon a book in stores some time ago. Got a copy or two. Read it in about 1 1/2 days. Really cool juxtaposition of mythology and technology. WebMage, I think it was called.
It was freaking fantastic. Best sci-fi fantasy I’ve read in years. (I recently read “The Traveller,” and liked that, too). I bow to the master. I have to think there is a whole series of WebMage books to come. I’m thinking there will be movies and games and other marketing tie-ins. Way to go! Hope you had a big roll-out party here for that (I missed it, if you did). But everybody surely must have read it. Very nice Kelly. Feel lucky to have known you before you get famous.
I saw your note to Booman about what’s up with your writing at the moment. Good luck with the press that’s looking over the new book. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. You’re doing good work, and at least as important, you’re steadily producing. If you hang in there, you’ll definitely go somewhere.
Glad you enjoyed WebMage. It was a blast to write. There was indeed a nice roll-out party here, and you were definitely missed. There is also a longer series in the offing. I’m working on the final revisions for Cybermancy (the sequel) today, and it’ll be out next year–looks like October. The next thing on my list after that is requested book proposals for a third and fourth. And then there’s the current book and the other stuff that’s out looking for a home.
I haven’t been around Booman much either, and that’s about half because of work involved with the book launch and the like and about half because of an extended family crisis. Unfortunately, both of those things are calling now, or I’d stay and chat more.
Hope to see you again soon!
I have missed you so damn much!!!!!!!!
There is so much happening out in the activism world. People being arrested for holding signs. People being fired from jobs when their companies are anonymously contacted that an employee was seen with Veterans for Peace…
So much nasty crap. And truly not enough people willing to get out and do much about it.
You and Manny and a few others actually get out there and try to do something.
Some in the blogs take a horrible bashing for what they do. I myself have been slapped a bit due to my support of Lt. Ehren Watada and others with the Couragetoresist.com. I also march and do events with CodePink and other vigils… so I just simply no longer have the time to “defend” a diary when it comes to something like Ehren Watada or rape victims like Suzanne Smith.
Or my love and admiration for Cindy Sheehan… and BostonJoe.
I miss you. Your last diary about you heading out to a 4th of July Parade and all it entails, the thoughts, the fear… YOU KNOW! You UNDERSTOOD.
Diversity without division… it’s needed with so much but yet we even get that in the progressive anti-war anti-bush stuff.
Losing your words, your thoughts, your ideas has been a major loss to me personally. As my friends aboved – Momagainstthedraft and Manny have stated… I missed you and in many ways needed you. But I understand the toll. I understand the need to just get out there and do.
Life is good here. I’m with an organics company that knows I’m a “radical” π Hell, the CEO last night said he admired my activism and that if there was anything the company could do to help me to let him know…
See, they have already said they will help me out when I’m arrested or injured at a rally/protest. The kids who work there… they have this silly name for me… they call me “Hardcore” LOL … but you know me… I’m just a “brazen coward” who won’t shut up.
I miss you and I wish I could hear more from you… but every day we go out there, in a strange way, keeps us connected. Every time I see cops coming my way while on a bridge… I think of my friends and how they are counting on us to not run or panic.
To keep the peace and to continue standing up. Even if our knees are shaking.
I miss you – but I understand. I lately have just resorted to sharing photos of vigils. It’s too damn hard to put into words (something you were able to do) about a protest or council meeting to Impeach… and to also then play blogpolitics. There’s simply too much work to do.
I know we’ll see each other again some day. And we won’t need many words… our faces and our eyes will say it all.
With all my love and as much strength as I have… Janet, Damnit.
Hey DJ. Great to hear from you. You sound like you are doing wonderful. I feel kind of like a pale shadow of the real deal, listening to all your expoits. But it is good to be a shadow to such a being.
I heard some people in the MSM really cracking on about Code Pink. Like they were such wackos. Really kind of amusing. I admired these wackos. Immediately thought of you, marching out front with them.
Kind of feel like we won. Even though I’ve dropped out and just let life fall around me. But as I look at our country now, I think people who believed in peace like you–and acted like you. You won. The country believes in it now. Knows how wrong we were. Americans don’t like to admit fault, I think, on the whole–but they know. And they know we’ve got to change. Think relative peace will come soon. Sanity. Until we forget that lesson again, and our children get the great pleasure of reminding people the simple lesson that war does not create peace.
Glad you are well. And still doing it. Save us all.
No no no no… I’m just doing what me and my family can… what we must do.
Hey… I got to meet Cindy Sheehan a few weeks back. She even called my friend Momagainstthedraft on my cell.
The MSM comes out with some really awful stories about CodePink and Sheehan… most of it’s complete bullshit.
In a way I do feel like my family has won. Every day inour own way we are protesting war, torture and slavery (all kinds) by how we live. Even with my work… it’s a form of sticking it to the man. My children are proof that we can live while awake to all the nastiness. That we don’t have to say “fuck it all” and be apathetic. That people do take notice and if one family can do it… that gives another family strength to try. To fucking try.
Imagine… one September and how it changed us all.. Not 2001… but September 24th. The day we found out what we needed to do with our lives and our passion.
I can not believe how chicken shit and unknowing I was back then LOL…
But I know that in many ways we have lost. I know that it’s going to take violence against families like mine to cause a ripple in the media whore called the Press. I see arrests and violence all the time but no news of it comes out. I know many who have been hurt on peace rallies… no news. So no one cares.
I know many care about me, care about all of us… but I don’t think they will do much untill people like me are hurt. Then maybe that’ll give them the strength to do something. I dunno… I just know that people are hurting and outraged and still there’s mass silence. And even when we holler with our collective voices… it’s not heard..
But at least the people in Iraq now know there are protesters. They now know that. For so long… they didn’t know. Now they do.
I can’t save anyone. I know that now. I can’t save another child from being murdered in Iraq or in Louisiana or even Portland, OR. But I do know that my child and I can look each other in the face.
What did you do… once you knew? That’s what gets me through the night my friend.
Peace and strength… and a good lawyer and Bless the ACLU and Civic Resist people π
Hi Joe, long time no see’m.
Well, I’d say you picked a great issue not to blog about, ha!
Great to hear your point-aught-two on it.
Got a cold beer waiting for ya at the HoDo, and plenty of hot coffee at Ristreto’s for the morning after, should you pass this way!
Good to see you. And I’ll take you up on the beer the next time I come to the great plains. Just want to leave out the white-out blizzard conditions the next time.
Good to hear from you, BostonJoe. Seems I had only been around the pond a short time and you were gone. What a great issue to not drop by and mention. Takes my old geezer memory back to Mayor Daley and a certain convention awhile back.
You mean they beat people in 1968? Gasp! I just read Olberman’s great rant. The whole dredging up of the pre-Civil War caning in the Congress. Has Bush brought us so close to this? I think he has. I’ve felt the hot breath of angry Republicans as I explained to them that Iraq was a major fuck-up. Completely irrational babbling, back at you. You’re a liberal wuss. You’re a pacifist idiot. Fuck, man. I did my 20 freaking years of school and I was born in this country. Can’t freaking complain about a lying war without getting into a shouting match with a doughy windbag.
If we don’t beat them back now, and get some sanity. I’m truly thinking bad things lie just around the corner. I mean, maybe they do anyway. But Bush has just ushered in a world of freaking ill-will.
Thanks for the two cents. Good to see you.
I have to agree with everyone else and say that you have been deeply missed. Every so often, your name will come up and we will all wonder if you are ok. Please continue to at least stop by every now and then and not blog so that we don’t have to worry about you. :>)
Hugs.
Very kind. Thanks. I dunno. I’ve spent a few hours just writing this and answering everything. Going to get myself in trouble falling off the non-blogging wagon. But I’m sure I’ll be around, even if I’m not around.
Good seeing you.
