Only that here in the battle between Musgrave and PACCIONE we’re getting a call at least every half hour. For days it has been Musrave’s people- or thier pollsters- but I just got new ones from Paccione and the DCCC.
Brrrring…
Boy , the wheels sure seem to be falling off of Air Force One… “Stay the Course” seems to have changed to “Stay out of Jail”…
he’s covered by a signing statement somewhere…
is up at 12:01 pm, 20 Jan 2009. The new Pres raises her right hand, and Cheney’s heart explodes.
it’s a yawn up here in Vermont.
Bernie Sanders, Independent, (defacto Dem candidate) leads his GOP opponent, Rich Tarrant by a wild wiiiiide margin. Tarrant spent more than $7 million – of his own money – to finance his campaign. NPR.VT reports, Tarrant is likely to get 30% or 100,00 votes, Our pop. here is slightly over 600,000.
Our Dem. candidate for the U.S. House, Peter Welch, leads GOP candidate, Martha Rainville by 10 percentage points, 51-41 with 6 percent undecided (last poll couple days old). But Welch has held his 10 point lead since summer.
Rainville has now positioned herself as an ‘Independent’ sorta cutting and running from the war. Kid you not. Btw she gave up her post, adjutant general, of the Vermont National Guard to run for the House.
Cows need milking.
I pondered that cryptic utterance for a long time. Is it some wise, pithy Vermont saying along the lines of “Pride goeth before the fall”? Or do you have actual cows that need to be milked? Please help, my curiosity is fully engaged.
well how much time do you have? Pull up a chair.
Generally the “cows need milking” loosely means we got other serious work to get done.
Vermonters, on the whole, take a few things seriously:-
mud season – on the unpaved roads. Others may call it early spring.
our politics – old fashioned town meetings, a tradition – what we call ‘participatory democracy’ that those D.C. ‘transient Gonzo folks’ would find “quaint.”
and our cows – the real ones, yes they do need milking…
will that depress Illinois turnout?
Heck no. I will crawl over broken glass in an ice storm to vote these idiots out!
Miami won, that will certainly make my day.
No breaking news from here, other than Musgrave v Paccione is a dead heat w/in the MOE…<all appropriate appendages crossed>
this pretty much sums up the feelings here

Hey Ken! Mr. Salazar!, are you paying attention…you’re next.
It comes down to GOTV.
Cautious about races within the MOE those MOEs quickly allow for fraud -“see, we eked out one” I’m for return of the paper ballots.
Latest Ct. polls.
Rell up by 24%, Simmons by 2%, Murphy up 3%, and Lieberman up 12%
Just saw the Robin Williams movie Man of the year:
I wonder why I have not seen more media attention to this very timely movie basically about election-machine fraud potential. I am sure it was made in response to the Diebold threat, and was released in time for this election cycle.
There can only be one logical reason why an election machine would have no paper trail to allow audits, and that would be to allow potential fraud! Tell me again how a country that supposedly worships the vote and is supposedly full of smart people could allow such a fiasco potentially to happen. The movie is right on!
I just got the news from 2 canvassers who were out today that the reception they got was mostly positive. They were able to hit 150 homes! Not bad for a spread out rural countryside.
GOTV call are in progress too. I even got one yesterday (obviously someone who doesn’t know me). I’ll be at my precinct from about 5 am until close to coordinate watchers and poll book holders. We will be watching closely here and have backup nearby if needed.
Did my phone banking for our state rep candidate Barbara McIlvaine-Smith today with other folks from the public affairs group at our local Planned Parenthood affiliate.
In previous years, we’ve endorsed candidates and given each a small donation; it’s been kind of lame, because the anti-choicers have so much more money to give candidates than we do. Often, candidates will say they don’t need the endorsement because of the potential downside of being pro-choice outweighing the benefits of PP support.
This year, we had an opportunity to support a wonderful pro-choice candidate running against against an anti-choice candidate for a seat that was recently vacated by a nasty anti-choice Republican hag who had the seat for 30 years. And we changed the type of support we gave to her: we did canvassing, phone banking, and worked with the campaign so they could use the phone system and desks there at the PP offices to make calls (the campaign ofice only had 2 lines and not much space).
The result? We think Barb’s likely to win on Tuesday, and several candidates have said they would have liked to receive the kind of support we gave her. So, our goal of making a PP endorsement attractive to candidates has been met.
