this diary is dedicated to all who suffer because of war – with a special dedication today to all of you working so hard to make tomorrow mean something
we love and support our troops, just as we love and support the Iraqi people – without exception, or precondition, or judgment
we have no sympathy for the devil

An unidentified soldier speaks to Kira Wolf, 19, from Arlington, Va., as she visits the grave of her boyfriend, Lance Cpl. Colin J. Wolfe, at Arlington National Cemetery, Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, in Arlington, Va. Wolf says she visits Wolfe’s grave every other day. Wolfe, 19, of Manassas, Va., died Aug. 30 while conducting combat operations in Iraq’s Al Anbar province.

Before we go any further we’d like to say man y’all really had a lot of patience, three days worth. You’ve proved to the world what can happen, with a little bit of love and understanding and soundzzzz….(guitar feedback with Jimi making vocal growling/feedback noises).
Oh, I left my girlfriend at home, I’m sorry for that.
Anyway we’d like to say man, we really appreciate y’all havin’ patience with us `cause this really, really is nerve racking man. That’s why we waited till the sun up and maybe the new day might give us a chance and uh er I don’t know blah blah woof woof.
Sky Church is still here as you can see.
We’d like to do this song dedicated to maybe a soldier in the army singin’ about his old lady that he dreams about and holdin’ a machine gun instead.
Or it could be a cat maybe, trying to fall in love with a girl maybe but a little bit too scared. That’s what the problems come from sometimes isn’t it.
I mean they can’t really – insecure a little bit so they call girls groupies and they call girls this. And they call passive people hippies and blah blah woof woof on down the line.
That’s because they’re fucking not in love man. That’s what’s happening.
That’s the other half of a man is a woman and uh we’d like to play a thing called Isabella and don’t you ever forget it.
(feedback)
Y’all are hard headed (nervous chuckle)

Isabella
Isabella
Girl, I dream about you every night
Every night
Hey, girl you know we got a war
got a war to fight
So I think about you every day
Oh, and i hope you listen to me right
Hey, Isabella
Girl, I’m fighting this war for you
Hey little girl I fight this war for the children and the world and you
So I hope you hear me baby, yeah
‘Cause what i try to tell you is true
Hey
Isabella
I fight this war for the children and you
Hey girl, I said I fight this war for the children and you
Please save your love for me
Then I’ll know the fightin’ is true
Isabella
Hey
Isabella
I’m gonna fight this war against nature, my heart

The candle that DianeL first lit many months ago, and which has become such an important part of these diaries since, is still available here.
You can copy that image into your own comment (you can leave it on my server), craft your own image, and/or rate this one – not for mojo, but to leave a small mark after taking this moment – as a sign that you know, but do not approve, and are not resigned.

I wonder what the soldier is saying to her…
If it’s anything like the emails I get via CodePink email… it’s probably… well nevermind…
I have very little faith in the elections tomorrow. My ballot sits here… and I’ll turn it in but will it be counted correctly? Will it matter? I don’t think so anymore.
I don’t want anymore people to be killed, murdered, shot in the gut, raped, left to die, starving… for my “freedom”. No more. Not in my name.
I no longer stand when they play the anthem. I no longer stand and salute the flag. No more.
Keep the faith, because it’s better than despair.
Someone else wondered about the soldier. For my part, I have to think that he looks at those graves every day knowing that one could ultimately be his own.
Think the Saddam verdict wasn’t timed for political purposes?

Ya think? Evil.
Let’s not give up.

Signature: If the recent Lancet reports of 655,000 Iraqi deaths are true, a field of markers representing that tragedy 51′ wide (15.55 m) would be 21.14 miles (34.02 km) long.
(If markers were three feet apart in all directions, as in the Arlington Memorials around the Country)
