May the 4’s be with you
Now it’s time to celebrate. Gather to the bar and start drinking.
I’ll take 27 of everything. I’ll start slow tonight.
Is a hogshead of gravy too much?
Never! π
I remember seeing hog’s heads in the produce department of an East Village supermarket, back in the day. Can’t imagine they’d look any prettier with gravy spilling out ..
Cool!
hors d’oeuvres :oP
In gravy or beer I could handle a hogshead. π
Where’d you get the picture of Omir’s basement?
After her repeated suggested that we view of “Addams’ Family Values” I sent an email to our housemate asking her to procure same, and ended up cooking a vegetarian Thanksgiving meal, complete with homemade pumpkin pie.
Hi keres. Congrats on the vegetarian Thanksgiving meal.
While australians call all hard skinned squashes “pumpkin,” they don’t actually grow pumpkins (as in the orange ones).
So I made the pie with butternut squash.
If I had gotten the holiday bug earlier, I would have made a faux turkey: stuffing, surrounded by seitan, covered by a crispy browned filo dough “skin.” Instead I made nut loaf, mashed potatoes, candied yams, and green beans. Nothing fancy, but suitably filling and festive.
Sounds like a truly beautiful meal, keres! Couldn’t ask for better, myself.
That’s quite a handsome pie, too!
I’m known far and wide for my pies. π
Besides, what really makes a holiday meal, aside from the fact that it takes hours to prepare and minutes to eat, is the company.
I know you said don’t ask but what is that a figurine of? LOL
That’s “Darth Tater.” And he belongs to our housemate. Which is the last I will say on this subject.
ROTFLMAO!!!! You never know what housemates or even loved ones will cherish and impose on you.
Hey, at least you had help.
That’s right.
As well: food prepared with love, in a contented spirit, nourishes better.
I am sure it was better than the Jack in the box thanksgiving I am having. LOL
Pobrecito. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
LOL I haven’t foxed or gone to a holiday meal in the last 3 yaers so Jack in the box ia open….. Maybe next year when I have finally moved in to Austin things will be different
I was traveling on Thanksgiving eve and had to eat at the Red Lobster in Grants, New Mexico. It was the only resturant open. I had the salad bar.
LOL
Sounds like a “Redwall” Feast. (Ask a little kid.)
My holiday left overs just arrived.
Back in awhile.
They had lunch and you get supper. LOL Enjoy!!!!
still awake after all that, eh…having the typical late dinner here w/out turkey…:{)
and since it’s still parked on the desk top…a harvest pic from last year’s T-day road trip…

Happy Turkey Day!!!! Dada!!!!
welcome back…been a while. recovered from the election?
Recovered from the elections, the flu and bronchitus. LOL It is nice to be back in the land of the living again.
So glad to hear you’re well again, refinish!
(& don’t feel too bad about your unconventional Thanksgiving dinner, dear. I had a few handfuls of granola with a cold coffee chaser.)
Thank you!!!!
hopefully, since you got it all at once, you’ll cruise thru the rest of the winter
I am hoping so also!!! I don’t think I can take another 3 weeks like the last 3. LOL
Glad you’re feeling better, RF. You’ve been having a tough time. You’ve been getting a lot of virtual concern and I know that if it were possible, you would have been pestered mercilessly with concerned BTers fluffing pillows, making soup, filling you place with flowers and generally fussing over you. Good to hear you’re up and about.
Thank you so much!!!!! I know the logve of the community has sustained me through some difficult times and I luv ya all!!!!
Lovely image, dada.
I’ve always loved checking out those patterns against the horizon.
I really like the farm landscapes in N Central Ks…the terrain there rolls a bit with long soft forms…that and the big sky…which I don’t get here unless I drive a fair bit east.
how’s life in M Beach these days? Hope you’re on the mend too…seems be be an epidemic of sorts among the pond dwellers.
Yes, indeed. I’d reckon much of it has to do with the odd weather patterns, coupled (perhaps) with the continual development of increasingly intense viruses, thanks to antibiotic OD.
As for MB, I’m working out plans to head home. Still dealing with low-grade infection here — just can’t handle indoor/outdoor transitions between icebox & sauna. Thank you for asking!
Hope you’ve been well yourself.
Beautiful photo … π
ya back amongst the living yet?
LOL
Did you have a leisurely day today?
finally some silence…<expletive> roofers finally finished yesterday…all the banging was making me crazy…not to mention Bu…now to clean up the mess inside…nah! maybe sat or sun…
do nothing and enjoy it … the mess will wait for ya π
I’m back and finally full.
dada I agree with Olivia. Do nothing and enjoy it. It seems to work for me. π
tell me all … since all I had was a salmon sandwich (it’s really hard to read about thanksgiving foodstuffs when thanksgiving is already past – too tasty!)
There was turkey and ham, dressing and gravy, three different casseroles (don’t even ask me what they were, but they were good), mashed sweet potatoes with marshmellows toasted on top, a pineapple and cheese type thing (good also), pumpkin pie/whipped cream, german chocolate cake and carmel cake.
But you were back awfully fast considering you ate all that … π
Inhaled is more the word. When you can’t taste or smell what the use of savoring each bite. π
At least the textures were pleasing, and the presentation … right. π
Textures yes, but they were left overs, so presentation wasn’t much.
What’s this I hear about frolicking all night?
Just waiting for you.
FM dropped that comment and then fled the cafe … π
Yes to the new cafe where the drinks were. You’ve got to priorities. π
Yes, but frolicking all night is a lofty thing to promise someone.
now that he’s off cigarettes … π
Could be. Stranger things have happened.
Yeah I’ve got to get that two inches of tar and nicotine back on my lungs. π
I had been doing pretty good. Had Mary and Psi stay up past their bedtimes. π
π
does that woman have pants on? Remember, I’m over forty. Evvvvver so slightly. π
Plus I have a bad heart. π
mud pants … π
Did someone say “Mud Pants”?
You know how you’re in a crowded room, with conversation all around you, and you hear something that cuts through the buzz and catches your ear? “Mud pants” will do that.
Olivia does have a way of doing that. π
The picture adds to the snapping head-turn effect.
what’s wrong w/ mud pants? LOL
Is this some Cdn/US difference thing going on … I’ve recently come to realize that we have very different chocolate bars from each other you know, so maybe this is similar. π
You don’t know what “Mud Pant” mean in American?
π
OK well get ready. It means pants with mud on them. How dirty can you get. π
if you folick all night in the mud, apparently very dirty … π
KS and I left at 3:30 a.m. That’s all I’m going to admit to.
Hiya Teach.
Hi, FM. Sounds that your family has taken care of you. Did they slide the food under the door? Did you send George out with a wicker basket in his mouth?
No I had a brave sister that came just inside the door, didn’t stay long though.
How was your T’giving?
Pretty Quiet, just the two of us. We sort off didn’t plan at all so we went out to eat.
That sounds nice. No hustle and bustle.
What kind of place did ya’ll eat at?
So I doubt we’ll be flocking much tonight.
I was wondering how we were all going to flock together. π
We’re not even birds of a feather. We’re an entire aviary of variety, which is what makes the cafe fun.
You must’ve picked up on our earlier turkey chat telephathically, Teach ..
Hi WW. How’re ya feeling? I understand an ice box and the beach can be pretty rough to go to and from.
Y’know, FM, I don’t get out to the beach much. It actually depresses me because it’s so dirty (as well as under continual police surveillance). Not the type of natural experience I enjoy.
In any case, I’m sure to feel better as soon as I can park my ass on a snowbank somewhere.
I’m concerned about you — how’s the fever?
It’s getting better. Still coughing a lot, but the nose has toned down a good bit.
Don’t blame you on the beach. I’ve always found tourist beaches to be highly overrated.
Glad to hear you’re on the mend, FM. Try not to suppress the cough — that stuff’s gotta come up! Body says so — it takes the infection out with it.
Absolutely agreed on tourist beaches. I tend to enjoy them most when they’re covered with snow — gee, is there a theme here?
π
Sure is a theme and I’ll be happy when you’re back in the snow. Hell I would be happy to be in the snow. π
FM, I’ve just had a terrific vision of you & I walking along in a light, lovely snowfall, bundled up nicely & slacking away. The flakes look great in your hair, but they cause a little problem on your glasses.
π
WW that’s a wonderful vision. You’re right too, snow always did give my glasses a hard time. π
I did have a weird mental tingle earlier.
Turkey buzzards on Florida high-rises? I see a Stephen King novel with the Florida TV’s and senior citizens playing a central role.
Oh yes, definitely! Can’t help remembering, too, that Miami proper is #1 nationally for hit & runs, thanks to lackluster law enforcement.
The buzzards do enjoy that type of thing.
It is strange, though, that they’re so heavily in abundance here, when wildlife in general is not.
Must be a lot of unfound bodies around. If I remember right Miami Beach isn’t the safest of places.
That’s right — & it’s worse each year. Retirees aren’t even heading this way any more, the way they did years ago. They’d rather go to smaller, friendlier places — like Syracuse!
have something to do with the detritus from fishing operations?…lot’s of tasty stuff there for TV’s to dine upon.
As to hanging around the high rises it’s probably for the thermals and currents…they are naturally lazy fliers…hence the massive wings for soaring.
Thanks for offering some insight on this, dada. Agreed, their presence must have something to do with marine life — though you rarely see them by the seaside itself & they tend to move inland when they fly en masse, toward the bay.
In any case, seeing them brings me pleasure: nature thrives in a most unnatural environment. They also remind me of home: unchanging, dark & huge.
Buzzard adapt well. It helps not to be picky eaters.
RF, I’m so glad to see that you are better! However, your T’giving diet is not exactly what the doctor ordered!
Can I ask you a personal question (like you can stop me – I’m nosy). what do you mean, when you finally move in to Austin. I thought that’s where you were.
Are you out there in Dime Box? Sitting in Dog Ridge? Devil’s Backbone? Whatzup?
I live in Red Neck… oops meant Round Rock.. which is a few miles north of Austin.
Ah yes, the third “high culture” point of the “Hutto- Pflugerville-Round Rock triangle.
I’ve got to open another cafe.
Back in a minute.
well I am having Ben & Jerry Coffee Heath bar crunch as my tk dessert.
that sounds delish! π
as much as I love chocolate I have gotten so I prefer icecream that has a different base with chocolate things added in. LOL
OK this bar closed, you know how to get to the other one.
all night … π
Just as long as it’s in the mud. π
Yeah dammit. π
