White Christmas is on TCM, anyone watching?
Gee willikers is this the 5th or 6th cafe today. 🙂
Gee you guys are talkers..
Hey PSI if you are around, I didn’t know you were going to Wharton, is that true….good for you.
Yes it is the one….It was made in 54, when I was 89 years old and I remember how I loved it then and now…I was so impressed with the constumes and the colors, all the reds and greens and then the snow…I seem to remember it may have been called holiday inn first but then again, maybe that was another.
I just realized that you know what the the lounge is for. It’s my understanding that you started this. You have my thanks. I enjoy the lounges greatly.
Yeah I know what the FBC is for, I thought it up you know, lol….and it’s a kick for me to see it go on and on like this, just like a baby that grew up.
Which is NOT the same thing as saying that they need to be kicked! Some babies aren’t allowed to kick. They must be quiet. Obedient. Restrained. In control. Working. Not using their imagination. Separating human relationships from other things.
But in the spirit of Teach’s post above, I think he should get his Irish family in Philly to take you out (with an assortment of their beautiful sisters and daughters), for an evening of story-telling, including many of ancient and modern political victories, fighting for the right, and imagined future triumphs against the forces of evil. These folks are Dems, the women are gorgeous, they have lovely imaginations, they work hard and play hard (you’ve mastered half of that game, but only half).
Maybe they can help you with the imagination. Progressives need to be optimists in the face of powerful forces – like Harry Potter – and think of a better future.
Hahaha…no. It’d be a nice change from the Penn scene, to say the least. 🙂
My response was more to Kidspeak’s last line. I believe in the greater good, but I have a very dark outlook on individual aspects of humanity. From darkness comes light…
I’ll stop messing with you, Psi. But in all seriousness, I don’t think people are meant to be alone. College is a great time to meet people. It gets much more difficult after that. All we are saying is be open to possibilities. And flirt. You never know.
I’ve met plenty of people through the course of my work at the bank, College Democrats, political campaigns, hallmates, etc.
Just personally, I don’t think I’m meant to be with anyone. I don’t really believe in the sort of ‘fated’ belief that people are meant to be together. Yes, we are social creatures at heart, but there are few who aren’t. And, in a sense, I’ve always viewed my more latent anti-social tendencies to be a blessing in disguise as times.
I don’t know why you don’t see the benefit of meeting the Irish family. Think of the stories you would hear about Teach. Stories that you could report to us here in the cafe. Remember … knowledge is power. I can’t believe I have to be this explicit with you.
Well, the main obstacle is that I don’t have the time in the near future. And no offense to anyone, because I do it all the time nowadays, but I’d probably forget by next week.
I wonder what you mean by that. Sounds like some negative thinking about psychologists, Psi. Too bad. I’m a scientist. I’ll try not to read too much into your comment.
But in any case, I will leave you to your thoughts tonight, with a parting observation. You aren’t anti-social. Beyond defining that term wrong – which I won’t get into here at this point – no one who blogs, who participates in campaigns by going door to door, talking to people face to face, talking with film-makers and reporters, taking pictures and sharing them with other people, is non-social. You are an “out front” person with good interpersonal skills who uses them quite well in many situations. Therefore, whatever you think about yourself and say about yourself, the idea that you are not social – antisocial as you put it – is not one that people who see you do these things are going to buy.
This is the Irish family that took me in because it became apparent to them that my own family wasn’t very good at the parenting thing. I am right between their two oldest boys ages, so we, along with an Italian kid from around the corner, were a tight foursome.
Imagineopous!! Zap! Psi, I have cast an imagination spell on you. I hope it takes. If not, I’m coming to Philly and sicc’n my Italian relatives, who might belong to that organization that doesn’t exist, on you. We will beat imagination into you. I hope the spell works, because, if not, drastic measures will be taken.
I don’t need imagination beat into me. About 6 years ago (damn, I’m old!), I wrote a fanfiction sequel to a now long-dead series called Animorphs. It’s extremely long, and it took me about a month of real dedication to write it (this was after my freshman year of high school). Nevertheless, I posted it to a couple of fansites after I finished it, and it seemed like a lot of people enjoyed it. You can check out reaction here or here.
Ah, but why must you put your mind too it, Grasshopper? True imagination is the freedom found when you let slip the reins on you mind and your mind goes where it will, free of your control.
Oh btw I talked to Dena (from Iraq) tonight and she had a lovely Thanksgiving with her friend from Texas, that she met in Iraq and Kansas. They had a great time and her friend was soooooo impressed with Kansas. The friend is a soldier and is having all kinds of post tramautic stress and I gather that Kansas was able to help him and draw him out.
We talked a little about Iraq and I asked her is she thought Alawi, I think that’s how it’s spelled, the previous PM, and she said he was the kind of leader they needed there, and most folks were hoping he would win election…
Someday you need to convince her to chat in the cafe. Maybe not a ‘wild’ saturday night for her first time. But maybe one of Manny’s Tuesday night Happy Hours.
She’s a little stubborn and I have to talk her into things, took me two years to get her to post anything at all.
Also I have been trying for two years to get her to start writing a book, she tells me she is keeping a journal and I said that’s all she needs, just put it all together…
I know it would be a hit.
But I will try to get her to do a Manee cafe some time.
Also she says she has a hard time reading on sites, she likes to print it all out and then read and I say, OKKKK……
But, you didn’t need the moral support of actually knowing anyone in person to come into the cafe –because you invented the cafe and already knew yourself. So to speak.
that is like Gore in the interview with Larry King, when asked what it was like to wake and and be Gore in the morning and Gore replied, I am Gore when I am sleeping too. That is the Al I was speaking of.
Meeting some Michigan people and a few of the Midwest crowd really helped me feel more a part of BT. If you get the chance, I strongly urge you to take it. I know you are a part already, but it’s fun to see and meet the people behind the usernames.
Frankly, Teach, I’d love to do so. Should’ve made the last NE meetup — but just as it came into being, my existence collapsed a wee bit. Hopefully next time ..
Things do happen. I hope things have improved. What we need to do is rent a big tour bus for a month this summer and drive it around the country. People could get on and off when and where they want. The Traveling Pond could travel throughout the country, visiting everyone. One could get on in Philadephia, travel to Florida, get off there and catch a plane, bus or train home. Some would spend a week on the bus, some a day, some might just meet the bus and hang out for a night. A Moveable Meet-up.
That’s a great idea, take it to the new cafe or even post it on the new diary I just posted and then ‘tell us about you’ also….come on….:):):)
I think it is a fun idea!
I don’t want to pry, but I am sorry you holiday was unpleasant. Ours was quiet. Kidspeak and I didn’t get it together, so we went out to eat. Nothing special, kinda low key. I hope you’ve had some peace and quiet the last few days to get over Thanksgiving.
Mr. Toad ordered up a new cafe.
Wow, we blew that last one out fast.
True, but not even close to my one hour record.
The clocks running, let’s go.
Early Favorite Books over here. And I’ll be nicer about girl books.
Are you calling Hans Christian Anderson’s stories — girls’ books?
Yup.
inch worm, inch worm …
That’s a cheap shot. I will not stoop to that level.
(And she went with a quack and a waddle and a quack
In a flurry of eiderdown.)
White Christmas is on TCM, anyone watching?
Gee willikers is this the 5th or 6th cafe today. 🙂
Gee you guys are talkers..
Hey PSI if you are around, I didn’t know you were going to Wharton, is that true….good for you.
aw, I don’t have Cable. Is White Christmas the one with Bing and Rosemary Clooney and Danny Kaye? Or is that Holiday Inn?
Yes it is the one….It was made in 54, when I was 89 years old and I remember how I loved it then and now…I was so impressed with the constumes and the colors, all the reds and greens and then the snow…I seem to remember it may have been called holiday inn first but then again, maybe that was another.
Wow, Diane you are so well preserved for 141 years old 🙂
This is the one that Rosemary and the other woman sing ‘Sisters’ in i thinkg. And then Bing and Danny do it later. I love that scene.
Ann Miller was the “other woman”. Ann always seemed to me to be original Barbie model.
No the other woman was blond.
Vera Miles, not Ann Miller. My mistake.
Vera Allen or Ellen ?
Oh my gosh that made me laugh so hard the house shook, I swear….I wrote 8 and then changed it I thought…but perhaps I am that old….boy that is a lol.
I like that movie, but, alas, no cable at chez Teach.
That’s too bad Teach…so are you and kidspeak dueling blogging tonight?
Duel or Dual, that is the question.
Yes. We comment freely aloud between the posted comments. This is more than TV.
Well here I am laughing again with you two and then add in the others and my fau paus, yeah I know I can spell french really well.
That’s what the lounge is for. Stick around. Let’s fill this one up in less than an hour.
I just realized that you know what the the lounge is for. It’s my understanding that you started this. You have my thanks. I enjoy the lounges greatly.
well great minds think alike, I guess, lol…we posted at the same time.
Yeah I know what the FBC is for, I thought it up you know, lol….and it’s a kick for me to see it go on and on like this, just like a baby that grew up.
Diane’s sort of the fairy godmother of the cafe 🙂
I wanted to be sure to give credit where credit was due.
For those that have cable – an excerpt:
Thank you, Mary. That was fun!
I was really looking for Rosemary Clooney and that blond woman (Vera somebody) but I couldn’t find it on youtube.
Bette Midler did a version of it a couple of years ago with Linda Rondstadt.
The version you found is the funny one. It always cracks me up.
I bet the Bette and Linda one is a riot.
I do indeed go to Wharton.
And Harry Potter still sucks! 😀
Did you see Kidspeak’s post to you in the last cafe?
Which one was it? I saw a post where it said people who disliked Harry Potter were flaming Republican devils, or something of the like… 😛
That’s somewhat the gist of it.
Do you know my Day in History widget said that today is the 20th annual Kick Psi Day?
now, now … no hurting My Project.
Your Project?! Hahaha… 🙂
It’s a term of endearment 🙂
I’m sure. 😛
I’ve been kicked since I was a baby? You people are cruel ones. 😛
Some babies need kicking.
Which is NOT the same thing as saying that they need to be kicked! Some babies aren’t allowed to kick. They must be quiet. Obedient. Restrained. In control. Working. Not using their imagination. Separating human relationships from other things.
Kick more, PsiFi.
Is being in control such a bad thing, though?
Not at all. Control is good, but it is not uniformly needed at all times. Overcontrol is not so good.
Maybe they can help you with the imagination. Progressives need to be optimists in the face of powerful forces – like Harry Potter – and think of a better future.
I’m an odd one…I have a generally optimistic outlook constructed on individually pessimistic beliefs. It’s interesting, to say the least.
uh huh. Actually the thought of beautiful sisters and daughters scared you didn’t it?
Hahaha…no. It’d be a nice change from the Penn scene, to say the least. 🙂
My response was more to Kidspeak’s last line. I believe in the greater good, but I have a very dark outlook on individual aspects of humanity. From darkness comes light…
With youth comes gloom.
With the right woman, comes light.
Are you saying that women are the answer to my problems? I have heard from many other males that they cause more problems than they solve. 😛
I’ll stop messing with you, Psi. But in all seriousness, I don’t think people are meant to be alone. College is a great time to meet people. It gets much more difficult after that. All we are saying is be open to possibilities. And flirt. You never know.

Yes, we are social creatures at heart, but there are few who aren’t. And, in a sense, I’ve always viewed my more latent anti-social tendencies to be a blessing in disguise as times.
The correct response was “Please give them my number I’d be happy to meet them.” “But after exams.”
As you can see, my view of priorities don’t line up right with yours. 😛
Has nothing to do with priorities. Has to do with politeness and courtesy.
I knew you’d come up with an explanation. 😛
You’ll notice my coached response DID say “after exams”
After exams, I’ll be going home right away. And when next semester begins, my life becomes a living hell again.
How many other undergrads have a teacher, a lawyer, and a psychologist hounding them about their personal life? And not one of us if billing you.
A psychologist! Maybe I should shut up for my own good now… 😛
I wonder what you mean by that. Sounds like some negative thinking about psychologists, Psi. Too bad. I’m a scientist. I’ll try not to read too much into your comment.
But in any case, I will leave you to your thoughts tonight, with a parting observation. You aren’t anti-social. Me thinks he doth protest too much.
Just pointing out that I can be a starry-eyed daydreamer when I put my mind to it. 🙂
Ah, but why must you put your mind too it, Grasshopper? True imagination is the freedom found when you let slip the reins on you mind and your mind goes where it will, free of your control.
Er…that’s when I fall asleep. 😀
Try it when your awake.
Boran2 calls it painting 😉
OMG — you actually HAD an imagination? What happened to it?
With age comes cynicism…
I’m the romantic fool with graying hair. You, me boy, are the cynic. It’s easy to be cynical. It’s a great protective cloak.
Oh btw I talked to Dena (from Iraq) tonight and she had a lovely Thanksgiving with her friend from Texas, that she met in Iraq and Kansas. They had a great time and her friend was soooooo impressed with Kansas. Thank you for the news, Diane.
Ok crappo, I don’t know what’s wrong with me tonight, it should be, “I asked her what she thought of Alawi”, was he a good PM and she thought so.
Someday you need to convince her to chat in the cafe. Maybe not a ‘wild’ saturday night for her first time. But maybe one of Manny’s Tuesday night Happy Hours.
I hope she’s right about Alawi.
She’s a little stubborn and I have to talk her into things, took me two years to get her to post anything at all.
Also I have been trying for two years to get her to start writing a book, she tells me she is keeping a journal and I said that’s all she needs, just put it all together…

Also she says she has a hard time reading on sites, she likes to print it all out and then read and I say, OKKKK……
Maybe you should just convince her to say “hi” in the morning to Andi. That’s how a lot of people get started. Then she won’t have much to read.
Since no one is around but us chickens, I think I will sneak this pic of manee and Dena up….this is when she was in Arizona.
See — she has a leg up on most of us in the cafe already because she’s actually met Manny in person.
That’s a sweet picture.
Well I actually met manee tooo.
I know ::sob::
Thanks for the pic, Diane. Dena is lovely! Now, who took the picture of Manny and Dena together?
I assume that they had another patron taking the pic. She is lovely isn’t she and they make a great looking couple, I had so hoped!!!!!!!!
Dena’s definitely got one up on me — I haven’t met anybody! Nary a froggie.
True, that’s a wonderful shot.
You definitely had a good excuse for missing it. I don’t know of any other Florida tribbers.
I believe there are other BT members here in FL — but I’ll be headed back north as soon as feasible.
I’ve actually had the, umm, unusual pleasure of meeting maryb.
Personally, I’d love to meet both of you!
BTW, did the meetup come off last summer? I sure lost track.
why unusual? We didn’t do anything unusual. Did we?
I don’t know. I couldn’t remember anything after my 15th drink.
Things do happen. I hope things have improved. What we need to do is rent a big tour bus for a month this summer and drive it around the country. People could get on and off when and where they want. I think it is a fun idea!
That’s a nice photo.
Hey,Boran, good to hear from you. How’d Brooklyn for the holiday work out?
Not well I’m sorry to say. It is a very long story. I hope that yours went well.
Thanks, the events of that day could fill a small novella. Quiet and low key sounds good to me. Next year I have vowed not to travel.
I second that, b2.
Yet another new cafe is opened for your drinking and carousing pleasure.
