It’s fine day to eat a lot of latkes.

Morning and Happy Chanukah!!!! I wanted to let everyone know the holiday party laast night was on the back patio at the dive I desribed and was quite fun. I would still never pick that place as a place to have any type pf event and will try and make sure we do not make that mistake again. LOL
I see you’ve decided on the no-wasted-letters theory of Hanukkah spelling. π
Glad you had fun at your party.
LOL Well, there are so many different ways to spell it and all are considered correct.
Chanuka
Chanukah
Chanukkah
Channukah
Hanukah
Hannukah
Hanukkah
Hanuka
Hanukka
Hanaka
Haneka
Hanika
Khanukkah
Yes the party was great and then I left there and went to a differnt bar where local bands play and stayed out till midnight. It was a nice evening
RF, you must go look at the song you wrote last night. Check out the cafe from last night before it disappears. .
I saw the song and was ROTFLMAO!!!! I love it!!!!
I’m trying to get her to use GarageBand and write music for it.
Oh, I see the bar wasn’t so bad after all.
Good morning and Happy Hanukkah, Andi.
Unique candles today.
They were leftover from last year and I didn’t want to waste them.
So can you get good latkes at Zabar’s?
I know the oil lasted 8 days but the candles are not suppose to last 8 years. LOL
Marmots have a lot of fat. π
LOL
Not as good as curly’s.
but a lot less work, time, and peanut oil. Jim and I gave up several years back and switched to potato kugel for the big family gathering.
Well, with a food processor to do all the grating things move much faster with latkes. LOL
If it was the grating, we’d still be doing it — it’s the frying. You spend four and five hours frying latkes in a skillet filled with oil and you start to feel like a greased pig and that’s not kosher. π
I helped make enough for a wedding buffet for 500 guest. We cooked them the night bbefore and reheated them in the oven the next day for the buffet. LOL
so you’re volunteering to come up here and cook latkes for us? π
Hah,
latkes in preparation here!
We’ll take the asklets to see LaGuardia High School’s performance of Ragtime tonight, then back here for evening snacks.
Hmmmm. I was thinking I might want to go look up a recipe for latkes but you folks are scaring me off. π
I’m not Jewish but I don’t have any problem using an excuse like Chanukah for making good food. One year when I was teaching an adult Sunday school class I gave a lesson about the book of Esther, and finished up by passing homemade hamentaschen around. (In Seattle I’m not sure there’s any other kind.) I couldn’t eat more than one without driving my blood sugar through the roof, but my students enjoyed the treat. I don’t remember whether the lesson occured anytime near Purim or not, but hey, that didn’t stop me either. π
I think that potato kugel is almost as good as latkes, is way, way less work, and has a lot less fat so you might want to try it. Here’s my recipe:
Potato Kugel (9×13 pan)
5 potatoes garlic, powder
15 grindings of pepper 2 large Onions
1/8 c. oil in potatoes 1 t. salt
1 1/2 t. baking soda 1/8 – 1/4 c. oil in dish
5 T. flour 2 eggs
Preheat oven to 450°. About 5 minutes before potato mixture is ready, pour oil in dish so that it comes up about 1/8 inch on the sides. Put in oven. Shred potatoes and onions (we like the texture of shredded potatoes better than grated). Mix all the ingredients together. When oil is hot, take dish out of oven and pour in mixture. Bake for 40-50 minutes (until it is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean).
Note that we do not peel the potatoes.
Mmmmm, that does sound good. I might just have to try it. Thanks!
LOL I think I will pass on that one. LOL
You’re on to something. I have not observed attempts to make any so far. It was briefly discussed for last night, but we ended up ordering in (Japanese) and watching “Walk the Line” on DVD.
Morning ask!!!
Good morning, rf.
So, party last night? Yet, up early!
I am a light drinker so parties don’t take the toll on me they use to. LOL
I promised Andi a Hanukkah gift and here it is.
The handsome guy on the right is the hubby. Now someone is about to wake up, so I’ve got to go. I’ll be back later.
What a great picture!!!!! Morning Toni!!!
Thanks Toni. I love the picture (and, of course, like any addict, now I want more).
I think the caption is ‘You’re giving me tree branches for Christmas? What? You couldn’t find any coal?’ π
I love his limp stuffed dog – obviously well loved. π
is Moe. He gets tossed around, kissed and chewed on continually. He is very much loved.
MMmmmm – smells good.
And cool picture. It looks like the kugel is being baked by a circuit board.
Credit to jim for figuring out it would make a better picture if all the lights were out, except for the oven light.
Looks yummy!
See my comment above, just posted.
Are you having Hanukkah just among yourselves or are you taking those latkes to a family devouring?
No particular celebration planned. curly simply got inspired to make these:
And are they yummy! Some zucchini fritters coming up now.
Ok, I love your kitchen, including the Michael Graves tea kettle. And I’ll send you my address if you’re inclined to mail out some latkes.
me VERY hungry.
Good morning, SN.
This is curly’s kitchen. She remodeled it a couple of years ago.
Mine is nothing like this, alas.
Hi SN –
Quite an impressive knowledge of tea kettles! Even w/out
the whistly bird (annoying & stuck in a drawer). Too
bad latkes don’t travel well, but I think Andi’s kugel
looks great and would ship better!
It’s more like an impressive knowledge of Target! π
I do especially love the colors of those little tile squares, though.
I love Target – but, believe it or not, there aren’t
any in NYC! I had to pick this up on a trip to Baltimore.
The tiles are matte glass tiles set into stone – stone countertops are great to work on too.
Good morninfg everyone.
good morning. I took a page from your book — i woke up and then thought I’d really like a nap and went back to bed π
Good for you! Anyway what the heck is there to do in St Louis? π
finish my christmas shopping?
You haven’t learned yet it’s better to receive than give?
no, I’m still stuck in the past.
It was supposed to be nice today — but it’s overcast and gray. I think that’s affecting my mood.
Yep it’s foggy here and I plan to do as little as possible today.
I’m going over to Starbucks and get a coffee. Maybe that will make me want to do something. I’ll be back.
See ya.
Yep, back to your old self. π
Hey just got back. Had to take George out.
So how are you Ms tea kettle pot lady?
I’m hoping to wrap a few gifts while Mr. has the dog out of the house. She just ate cat poo and he was bugging the heck out of me so I kicked them both out.
Poor Hopeful, deprived of her dessert. Maybe Mr Nature and Hopeful decided you were bugging the heck out of them and decided to go for a walk. π
I think I feel a nap coming on. Talk to ya later.
concerning the military that has prompted the President to continually talk directly to the troops on the telly about how much he supports them while indirectly sort of suggesting that the American people don’t. I have seen two such televised moments. Then Rummy said yesterday he will never forget the troops and he will double never forget the families of the fallen because they have inspired him. Then the President makes the unverified claim that the “Other Donald” is who made the American Soldier Times person of the year in 2003…. that was three years ago and these bastards with a side of Rice who have short or nonexistent memories for any sort of fact concerning them are up to something. My big toe started tingling on Monday when the soldiers here had to go to that really bizarre “safety briefing” that was very poorly scheduled. A tingling big toe though has never been reason to dial 911, sometimes it only means you are a fathead glutton and now you have gout. I think my tingling big toe though was valid as I have seen this today with the help of Crooks and Liars. This is planned to be delivered on MLK’s birthday and as tame as this may seem to some who have never served in the military it is anything but tame among the ranks. This has NUKE potential because group think is very important in the military gruntdom when it comes to mission. It is very different to grumble to oneself in the latrine and write evil things about Halliburton on the latrine wall to purge the evil you may feel within but this is organized and it’s legal. If this takes off and you add 70% of the voting civilian portion of our democracy this is a NUKE! I think I have found a new hobby for awhile and a new soapbox. I think a few someone’s are scared of it too. I hope I find out they had every reason to be scared, I will do whatever I can to bring that about.
Brava, MT! Hear, hear! Thank you for the information on this. I place my full support behind everyone taking part.
Happy Hanukkah greetings, all! Hope everyone’s set for a terrific weekend. Somber clouds reign here over The Urban Sandbar, with the temperature at 75, 88% humidity. Certainly hope the weather’s more conducive to human activity where you are.
That’s quite a lovely menorah, Andi. I see that the candles don’t only burn — they also smoke!
π
Lovely to see Andrew here, too, Toni. He definitely seems to be absorbing far more this year through those beautiful eyes of his.
Alas, I don’t suppose I’ll be doing much of anything today, as I’ve thrown my back out & have all the animation of a baked marmot.
Chanukah Tov, everyone! Those of you who are celebrating, I hope you are enjoying it. We’re good on that front, having seen the Rugrats Chanukah episode. (For those who aren’t familiar with the show, one of the main characters has a presumably Christian, although primarily secular, father who invents toys, and a mother who’s very definitely Jewish. So they get to do a Christmas special, and a Passover special, and a Chanukah special.) The Chanukah special is a lot of fun. The clockwork menorah the father puts together has to be seen to be believed. Check it out if it ever comes your direction.
Good to see you, Omir! Hope you’re weather’s calmed a bit & there’s less immediate danger from your tree.
Hi WW. It’s much calmer right now, if much colder — my browser desktop weather thingie says it’s 32° out.and no wind to speak of. I can handle that just fine. Thanks for asking.
Thanks for the update! Sounds AOK there. I’ve always found the calm after the storm a reason for natural gratitude.
kitchen has been cleanedup, presents are wrapped, walk is taken, shower is next and then to stuff our faces.
Have a good day whatever you end up doing.
Today’s walk
Have a great, great day, Andi! Thanks so much for the image (wag wag).
and leaving in a few but the Pack wanted to be sure you knew that they had saved a soft spot for you in the leaves by the driveway that get the nice afternoon sun.
(When I started to take that picture sniff was reflected in the puddle but by the time the shutter closed all that was left of the little creep’s reflection was his tail.)
π
oops — I probably missed you, but have a great celebration with the family. Eat lots. Enjoy each other. Come back with stories.
Good Afternoon, all! Got some errands to run, then back to work on fun stuff. Hope everyone has an enjoyable day. I suspect we’ll need a happy hour tonight.
I’m off to a hockey game … Have a good day yourself, and first round is on me tonight at happy hour. π
Have a great time at the game, Miss O!
Hope you have a pleasant day as well … Catch ya later!
{{{ww}}}
Back atcha!
{{{ Miss Olivia }}}
Sure hope you’re not ‘running’ on that illness (or on cough syrup)!
Don’t worry. We cut the errands in half. I’m back in for the day. Thanks for the concern.
I am counting down to vacation. How about you?
I’m counting the days until retirement. There are far too many of them.
Idly traversing the Internet, came upon this piece, via NYCO’s very worthy blog (focused primarily on New York State issues).
The wolf pictured has such a beautiful
face. Of course, she deserves to be elsewhere, with more to stimulate her!
