Is today the shortest day of the year?
You can listen to a pretty cool interview with new congressman, Paul Hodes and find out what it’s like to go to DC after people elected to serve the people.
What’s going on in your neck of the woods? Any reindeer sightings?
Whether to day is the shortest day of 2006 – not sure, could be today or tomorrow. But the coming night is the longest and this year, the sun turns at 00.20 UT (Universal Time) – which is at 7.20 tonight on the east coast.
Haven’t seen a real one for many years, but in the mountains close to where I grew up, there were herds of wild reindeer. I once saw a herd that probably had close to 5,000 individuals – the scenery was similar to this image (lots of more animals, though).

First Scandinavian astronaut Fuglesang preferred reindeer meat for the Discovery space flight, but had to settle for elk!

"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
Heading out to meet some high school friends for a Christmas tree trimming…should be fun.
I am recovering from an intense fever. Landrieu is receiving a lot of favorable press in Louisiana for her role in the passage of the offshore oil and gas revenue bill, but Louisiana Republicans are attempting to take credit for her hard work. I also heard FEMA will award Mississippi four times more money for housing than Louisiana, although the devestation in Louisiana was three times more than that of Mississippi.
Re: money? Two words: Trent Lott.
next year, the foggy xmas eve.
oh yeah, and it’s reining like hell here.
today, except for some groceries and a couple of gift cards the spouse will pick up tomorrow when he does his shopping for yours truly. Pretty much a practical holiday — emergency lights for the spouse’s family, slippers for his dad and brother (but I did buy mom-in-law some lovely earrings in Lost Wages this month).
BYU creaming Oregon in the Lost Wages Bowl — hope it’s not an omen for the rest of the Pac-10. Encouraged by Stanford’s hire of Jim Harbaugh; he’s young enough to actually be able to communicate with the kids, hopefully.
And it’s been a tough year for a lot of folks, including Rudolph:
No flying reindeer, yet, but I did sight this saucer-shaped flying thing.
The have cow-shaped flying saucers in your neck of the woods?
Don’t forget to do your duty to bring peace on Earth today!
I have a singing cat puppet (he squeals a note each time you close his mouth – if you close it in the right rythm he can sing “Jingle Bells” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Alternately annoying and hilarious!
I am also in early on the West Coast, brewing spiced cider for my teammates here at work. Wish I could share with the frogpond!
