We’ve had bad weather down here all night. We’re still under a tornado watch, but the radar show the worst has past. I guess when daylight gets here, I can go out and count the number of new limbs that have fallen. Not saying I’m going to pick them up, but I will look at them.
No I didn’t. For some reason just about anything will wake me up, but I can sleep right through the worst weather. So far around here it looks like the only casualty is the cable tv. I’m starting to get nervous from not being able to flip the channels.
Both actually. There are five channels that are still on, but only one with news. It like being used to a 52 course meal and all of a sudden they say it only five courses today and it’s all celery.
Good morning, pondlings! Hope everyone’s having a reasonably good day so far (though it seems Andi is not). As for me, it’s always a nice day here in South FL before the sun comes up over the high-rises.
Been out to see those limbs yet, FM? I’m watching the radar over your area at the moment.
No, this is not a figment of your imagination — gee, that would’ve been a great handle…
Woke up at 5:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep so figured I might as well get up and shower — I’ll probably emulate FM and catch a nap later today. Spouse still in bed — hope he’ll be up shortly, as I’m getting hungry but I can’t have anything to eat until after I get some bloodwork done.
So excited — even the jeans that were tight are now fitting well! Finally going to pick up a tape measure today so I can keep track of my measurements as they drop. 🙂
I get a daily podcast from “Countdown” — basically a highlight of the day’s show. Tuesday’s was the “special comment”; listening to it now and it still brings tears to my eyes.
Hope everyone’s day goes as well as could be hoped…
Good morning, Cali! I’m glad things are going well for you weightwise.
I must access Keith’s Tuesday comment somehow. It was obviously a gem! I hope he made out well with his new contract.
Michigan. It’s nearly 60 already today, buds are breaking on my forsythia – which isn’t good, because I do expect them to get zapped.
I was thinking abouty your name last night while reading about the Reelfoot Swamp.
I think we should rename you “Swamp Siren”, as long as you are in Florida. (That is where you are, isn’t it?)
Only until Monday morning — so I truly hope I can keep my name! I’ve had it for almost 20 years now.
🙂
I’m sorry to hear about your forsythias. None of the weather news I’m hearing is good, IMO. The Weather Channel’s three female commentators are reminding me of Shakespeare’s three witches: bubble, bubble, toil and trouble..
That’s funny. I don’t get the weather channel (no cable), but the prospect of having a “reporter” names Bubblebubble and two others named Toil and Trouble just sounds wonderful.
Of course that’s not likely what you had in your head. I just get silly on Fridays. Work avoidance.
So you are heading back to the wilderness very soon?
Indeed I am. Just in time for true winter, no doubt.
😉
‘Bubblebubble’ — LOL! Not too inappropriate, considering the hairstyles.
Always a pleasure to help with work avoidance. I seem to be developing a knack for it, myself.
but right after I posted the comment there was a break in the rain and the dogs and I zipped off to take advantage of it.
The picture is from Dec. 29. The lack of snow is making for all kinds of shots that wouldn’t normally be available. The moss and ferns and sedge are all still grean, too.
I’m so happy for you that you are getting to head back home.
I’m glad you headed out! Hope you & the Pack enjoyed it immensely!
I’ve seen many, many unusual wintertime shots this morning on the telly. It’s amazing to hear about your green moss & ferns! This simply should not be.
Thank you for sharing my pleasure on the northward return. I’m keeping my joy at a low volume here, in respect for my mother. Psychically I’m actually bounding about wagging my tail, leaping into the air & barking insanely.
I should be able to grab a few internets here & there until I’m truly settled in.
I didn’t see him (more feh) — after 45 minutes I finally got fed up and asked how much longer and they said he had 2 emergencies and it would be at least 30 minutes more. So I left — it’s just a routine checkup that takes three minutes. I understand having emergencies but the disregard for patients’ time pisses me off — what would hurt for them to call and let people know that their appointments were going to be delayed by an hour or more?
I’m continually amazed by the plain lack of respect so many medical practicioners offer their patients. Imho, you should expect at least the type of consideration received at your average chain restaurant.
Frankly, I would’ve done the same as you did. Basta!
I suppose there’s an upside, though. The process doesn’t sound very pleasant & you also had time to trek between the raindrops with my spiritual playmates.
20s! Isn’t that something like a 30 degree drop from what you’ve got now? Gee.
Thanks for the gear suggestion. I’m guessing that’s about right — but I’ll keep watching as the time passes.
Isis tells me they’re expecting the 70s in the city this weekend. Unbelievable. They’re breaking records every day there — no snow-free December since the late 1800s. The snow when I was younger was often pretty intense — city shut-down type storms, skiing down Broadway.
The drop is going to be gradual with lower high everyday through Tuesday or Wednesday. I’m looking forward to it but it’s only supposed to last a few days before it goes back up to the 40s.
Golly — aren’t they beautiful!
Despite what the evidence portends, I just love seein’ that green!
<pant, pant>
I’d guess some areas of the Catskills look very much the same, though I hear they’ve gotten a wee bit of snow on the higher elevations. I’d imagine I’ll miss it, considering it was near 50 there at about 8:30 this morning.
I’ve also just seen a few foxes trotting across an IL golf course. Hope those folks left them alone!
aaiiieeee! yet more insomnia! At least I got maybe 5 hours.
Oh and good morning dearies-hope you have a tres fabu weekend coming up. I’m hoping for more sleep and some lightweight adventures and/or magic possibly involving people less manic than the maybe man-I don’t think I can handle one more all-night adventure without my head exploding.
Sounds like it’s definitely been a bumpy ride, ‘soup.
Are you saying that recent sleep deprivation has mainly to do with Mr. Manic? I truly hope he’s not certifiably manic — some of those folks don’t sleep for days!
WW (or SS for a few remaining hours), I am also very happy that you are going back north. Frankly, even though I’m born and bred in the South, I hate really hot weather, and I miss winter. However, I can’t say I’ve missed shoveling and snow blowing so far this year :).
Even if not snowy, the Cats should be a beautiful sight after Florida, which is too flat, in my opinion.
I’d agree totally. The mountains are truly my thing. Even the Catskills’ eastern foothills seem too flat.
🙂
Thanks very much for sharing my happiness!
We’ve both avoided the shoveling so far this year — but I think we’ll both get to do some before too long. I’ll certainly be happy to shovel, really, as long as I’m avoiding summertime heat ’til the appropriate month.
Where in the South are you from?
Well if you’ve got the right kind of mind (and I suspect you do), a few words in a book and some roving thoughts can work just as well as sexy folks on tv.
Even better — & it’s completely voluntary. Once someone turns on the set, it’s all over, no matter the mood.
At least that’s my take on it. I’m very susceptible to the stimulation after so long without — a deer-in-the-headlights sort of thing. With lovely lesbians.
Holy moley! You haven’t used much at all!
Thanks for the info — always ready to add to my wilderness wisdom.
How much do you generally use per winter? (I’m sure I’ve asked before, but I’m goin’ turbo-geezer & have no memory.)
One reason we’ve used so little is that we have a few baseboard heaters for when we go away to keep the pipes from freezing and so we’ve turning them on at night when it’s going to be in the 30s instead of starting a fire (geezer-level laziness).
We have a very good stove and you can’t really smell the wood burning at all. But even when the doors are open it has bothers me — OTOH, white shoulders=instant wheezing.
(my asthma isn’t very severe and has been even less so since I had the polyps removed)
On a related note, I was presented with a color photograph of Mr. Nature’s clean-as-a-whistle colon yesterday by the doctor. This is clearly more togetherness than I am comfortable with.
What is it with the pics — the ENT gave me pictures of my polyps after the operation. Just what I always wanted — looked hors d’oeuvres for Hannibal Lecter.
Last day of vacation and I don’t even sleep late.
Morning all. Feh on good.
Good morning Andi.
I like the picture up top. Last day of vacation and no late sleeping. Just shows you very excited about getting back to work.
The picture seemed appropriately noodly. As for my attitude about going back to work … well, less said the better.
We’ve had bad weather down here all night. We’re still under a tornado watch, but the radar show the worst has past. I guess when daylight gets here, I can go out and count the number of new limbs that have fallen. Not saying I’m going to pick them up, but I will look at them.
So have you been up all night listening to the storms? I acutally kind of like doing that (except for the no-sleep part).
No I didn’t. For some reason just about anything will wake me up, but I can sleep right through the worst weather. So far around here it looks like the only casualty is the cable tv. I’m starting to get nervous from not being able to flip the channels.
You start flipping chanels at 5:00? Or is it just because you can’t that you want to?
Both actually. There are five channels that are still on, but only one with news. It like being used to a 52 course meal and all of a sudden they say it only five courses today and it’s all celery.
There’s always radio.
Yep, but just not the same.
We need somebody else to wake up — I’m running out of early morning conversation.
I think I’ll go and flip through the all the channels. You know snow looks different on different channels. 🙂
See ya.
Oh, fine. Here I am. What’s up with everyone this fine Friday AM?
Hi CG. I’m still flipping through channel snow and Andi is looking for someone interesting to talk to. 🙂
How’re you this AM?
Oh, duh. I should have read more carefully…interesting I am not.
How are you this morning? I am starting to stress out about sending CBtE off to Outward Bound on Monday morning…yeesh.
What’s up was me. 🙁
And now I’m off to my ENT to have cold metal shoved up my nose to see if any polyps are growing back. Such fun.
See ya.
Good morning all. It’s going to be almost 60 here today and predicted to be 69 tomorrow! My snow tires are collecting dust in the shed.
‘Morning, b2! Amazing weather, eh? Personally, I wish this was just a normal turn of events.
I could live with that!
Just heard via the Weather Channel that the cherry blossoms are in bloom at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Their turtles aren’t hibernating.
How’ve you been? How’s the family doing?
No, this is not a figment of your imagination — gee, that would’ve been a great handle…
Woke up at 5:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep so figured I might as well get up and shower — I’ll probably emulate FM and catch a nap later today. Spouse still in bed — hope he’ll be up shortly, as I’m getting hungry but I can’t have anything to eat until after I get some bloodwork done.

are up on Crooks & Liars — I downloaded the Quicktime file to save for posterity… 🙂
Great. Thank you!
Hi, folks – if anyone is still around.
It feels like a fine Spring day. Daffodils are spurting up out of the ground.
‘Morning, Kidspeak.
Your daffodils are blowing my mind. Where are you located? I’m sorry I’ve forgotten.
Michigan. It’s nearly 60 already today, buds are breaking on my forsythia – which isn’t good, because I do expect them to get zapped.

Compliments on ‘Swamp Siren’ — it’s very poetic!
and heading back to the catskills?
If so — o frabjous day!
Good morning, Andi! How are you? I hope your day’s improving.
Yes, I’m heading north on Monday morning, stopping over in NYC, as usual.
My usual compliments on this morning’s image! Beautiful composition & great color! Is it recent?
but right after I posted the comment there was a break in the rain and the dogs and I zipped off to take advantage of it.
The picture is from Dec. 29. The lack of snow is making for all kinds of shots that wouldn’t normally be available. The moss and ferns and sedge are all still grean, too.

Are you going to have internet access?
I’m glad you headed out! Hope you & the Pack enjoyed it immensely!

Any interesting news from the ENT?

We’ll definitely miss you but it’s for a great cause.
(The woods are really freaky — I’ve never seen green like this in all the years we’ve been out here.)
I’ll definitely be OL if/when I can — if only to yip a little.
I’ve just seen a few more images of blossoming NY trees. I have my eye on televised weather today because I can’t figure out my trip-wear.
but I see New York is going to still be in the 40s. So sounds like clothes for fall weather would be good.
20s! Isn’t that something like a 30 degree drop from what you’ve got now? Gee.

We had one 1/4 inch snow in December.
Incredible. Mama’s getting set to whup our collective ass, for sure.
I’m guessing you’ve got a bit more wood stored than you usually do by now .. ?
We’ve only used about 1/4 rick.
Dummy regionalism asks: what’s a rick compared to a cord? (A cord’s about 8 x 4 x 4.)
Golly — aren’t they beautiful!
Despite what the evidence portends, I just love seein’ that green!
<pant, pant>

It should be nice to see the green but it’s just so wrong that I find it too disconcerting to enjoy.
I concer totally. It’s actually very depressing. Yet, I appreciate what I see, too, since it’s there.
.. as in ‘nod head in a disheartened manner’.
aaiiieeee! yet more insomnia! At least I got maybe 5 hours.

Gotta go, bye for now, WW, Andi, ‘Soup, + anyone else around.
OK. Enjoy the day, if you can. We’ll share our heat-hatred later.
😉
I’d agree totally. The mountains are truly my thing. Even the Catskills’ eastern foothills seem too flat.

Thanks very much for sharing my happiness!

Where in the South are you from?
I’m on the way back to the Catskills and I have a free bed – or two.
What do you mean, Lusciousness?
I don’t know how you’re traveling, but if you need a place to overnight you can stay with us.
Aha! OK — I thought maybe you were heading north & was prepared to become thrilled.
Alas, I’m traveling by train, just an overnight trip. Thank you so much for the offer, though, SN! Truly!
It did sound like that, didn’t it? Ah well, I’ll chalk it up to lack of caffeine this morning.
Ah yes, the evils of low caffeine. Always to be avoided.
We are destined to meet, in any case. Just not so soon!
😉
I’ve just figured out what you said in your offer! Honestly, the heat’s definitely boiled my brains. Best get home while I can still chew my own food.
Well, really, I could have been clearer in my language. I’m losing brain cells quickly these days and the best part is that I don’t give a fuck. 🙂
The two of you in the same room — that might rate as fissionable material.
As if I need fuel for my fantasies. Lord save us.
Everybody needs/deserves fuel for their fantasies.
Except for me.
😉
Yet another reason I’m happy to be traveling now is that I miss the new season of The L Word. Too many cute girls for a monk to gaze at.
Well if you’ve got the right kind of mind (and I suspect you do), a few words in a book and some roving thoughts can work just as well as sexy folks on tv.

OK, must go. See you soon!
down here so as not to bust the margins.
A rick is also called a face cord and is 1/3 of a cord (8 x 4 x 16″)
Holy moley! You haven’t used much at all!
Thanks for the info — always ready to add to my wilderness wisdom.
How much do you generally use per winter? (I’m sure I’ve asked before, but I’m goin’ turbo-geezer & have no memory.)
Around two cords would be normal.
One reason we’ve used so little is that we have a few baseboard heaters for when we go away to keep the pipes from freezing and so we’ve turning them on at night when it’s going to be in the 30s instead of starting a fire (geezer-level laziness).
I don’t know how you get along with a wood fire having asthma. It sends me right over the edge, even smelling it days after it’s out.
I bought myself some mums because I’m cool and I deserve mums, dammit. And I like their little arms reaching out to me.
mummy dearest.
We have a very good stove and you can’t really smell the wood burning at all. But even when the doors are open it has bothers me — OTOH, white shoulders=instant wheezing.
(my asthma isn’t very severe and has been even less so since I had the polyps removed)

You’re cool indeed, SN. Scrumptiously cool.
So are mums. The match is perfect.
Alas, consciousness urges that I get offline & do things. See y’all later!
Understood. Backup is definitely the way to go if you’re not a snowbird.
