I slept for almost 7 hours which is excellent but I’m still feeling kind of wiped. I think it’s from the strain of having to be an adult for three straight days.
Good morning, FM!
Have you had the same bitter cold in your area? We had 9° yesterday morning (-10 wind chill). A bit better this morning, 25° at the moment.
That sounds like my weekend!
Oldest asklet is away at the Model UN Conference. Young asklet may come, but last night it sounded as if he wants to spend the weekend with his mother. I suspect that his sister’s absence has something to do with it.
Good morning, CG and SN!
Yes, I think it’s on CSPAN at 11.15 ET.
And hope some of you guys will post later – you’ll sure have some party or get-together to live-blog.
The margins are all messed up for me today — the ad column is REALLY WIDE.
I’m trying to resist going to the library, getting a bunch of books and reading all day. I’m trying to tell myself that doing laundry and vacuuming would be just as much fun.
It’s a gray day here. I don’t really feel like doing anything. It was a long week, by last night I was beat. But I don’t want to waste my weekend sitting around and then go back to the office on monday not having done anything.
Hey Cali, sorry you didn’t feel well enough to go to the SF Rally. We’re not having a rally here — there is an event for people to gather to have a picture taken and sent to Washington. No speakers. No march. And at a location that’s not near a metro stop and has no parking. Odd.
Hi Cali — When I get to the rally I’ll give a shout for you.
It is cold this morning and I have a headache, ach, but getting outside will probably help me feel better. And I have a memorial service for a former colleague to attend, so will be late to the rally.
The little girl next door is a Brownie and she came to my door this morning selling girl scout cookies. She usually talks my ear off but as soon as I opened the door today she became tongue tied. Her mom was standing at the end of the sidewalk saying — “it’s JUST Mary, you can practice on Mary. You usually can’t STOP talking to Mary.” But she just stood there looking like a scared rabbit. 🙁
Now I’m organizing my desk space. My desktop computer crashed last weekend 🙁
But while it’s with the tech people at work (so they can tell me it needs a new hard drive) I thought it would be a good time to clean off my desk — and behind it. Moving all those computer wires really makes the dust fly 🙂
Yeah I’ve got wires everywhere too. I keep thinking the next computer will be an Apple with everything in one package, but they’re still past my price range.
Even though I have a laptop now, I still think my best purchases have been a wireless keyboard and mouse. Less wires and I don’t have to use that touchpad.
If it was just the keyboard and mouse I would be OK. But add in the line between the CPU (is that what it’s callled?), printer, the speakers, the DSL line and the line to my ipod that i just keep attached all the time — it’s a lot of wires.
I’m trying to steel myself not be too bummed when they tell me my hard drive has to be replaced. But I’ll have to load all my CD’s onto Itunes again. And I didn’t back up some of my purchased music in the last month so there’s some stuff that will be lost. ::sniff::
I feel for you. The only reason I have this laptop is because my desktop crashed about a year ago. I had the desktop for about 5 years and although I backed my stuff up a lot, I still lost I don’t know how much. I think the family pictures I took hit me the hardest on looseing.
As far as your hard drive goes, they’re not that expensive now of days. If it’s just your hard drive, depending on the size you want, it shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.
I usually bring work home with me on the weekends. But this weekend I rebelled. It can all wait until Monday.
I’ve been doing a genealogical project with my dad for the last two years that involved a lot of documents. Most of that was backed up. But I did work on it a bit right after New Years and never backed up that part. It’s nothing I can’t recreate — but it’s the hassle factor.
I’m secretly hoping the IT people tell me it can be salvaged, but they didn’t look too hopeful when I brought it in. Usually they just listen to me and cheerfully say that they’re sure whatever it is is fixable. But usually it says it can’t locate the hard drive. This time it was a different message. And they looked VERY serious and just said, “well, we’ll see”. 🙁
Can’t locate the hard drive is what mine said too. Next time I go to the big city I’ve got to check out a few places to see if I can buy a piece of equipment FARfetched told me about. If it works I might be able to get my stuff back.
Before I retired I used to go into the office on the weekends and work. With no one around and no phones ringing I could get a lot of work done.
That’s awful about your computer Maryb … My computer just crashed last w/e and initially thought I’d lost all my photos (which hadn’t been backed up – stoopid yes). After some digging around in the windows directory I found them, and spent the next 24hrs straight burning dvds and cds … eek.
I like the peanut butter sandwich cookies almost as much as the thin mints. I don’t know why I don’t buy the white sandwich cookies anymore though — maybe I’ll get a box from the NEXT girl scout. I’m sure there will be more. 🙂
I can’t believe you hadn’t backed up your photos. I’d hate to think of you losing ANY of them. That would be just awful. Far worse than me having to re-do my itunes.
It’s strange, but I don’t really ever crave ice cream in the summer. It’s on days like today when it’s under 35 degrees out that I start to think about ice cream. Weird?
I don’t think you’re the only one that way. During some of the mid-winter festivals I went to in Germany, people would line up at the ice cream stands. Now eating ice cream out in under 35 degree weather is weird.
My photos will be up shortly. Too bad I got scooped on the “Booman for Brownback” story! To mirror what we’re having here, I’m treating the FBC to a round of:
We have overrun an entire corner of the lounge here. We just toasted to a promise of returning in two years for a Democratic Presidential Inauguration. I’ll drink to that!
Good morning Andi!
Is that what your neighborhood looks like now?
No, except for north-facing hillsides and other no-sun places, that snow is gone.
Hm,

I’m starting to miss the snow, we haven’t seen much this winter. This one from last February – 27 inches in 30 hrs.
though I’d prefer the accumulation stay in the 6-7 inch range. Last Sunday’s snow was the first one this winter that was more than 1/2 inch.
Good morning Andi and Ask.
Andi I apologize for leaving an almost full café to you last night when you must have been dead tired.
OTOH I was helping you to stay awake. Yeah that’s it, I was helping you. 🙂
Hey, you babysat all week while I was away. Anyway, I can open a cafe in my sleep — I do it lots of mornings.
Are you feeling all refreshed this morning or are you still trip tired?
I slept for almost 7 hours which is excellent but I’m still feeling kind of wiped. I think it’s from the strain of having to be an adult for three straight days.
Yep it takes a lot of energy to act grown up.
I miss being able to lay on the floor and throw a temper tantrum.
Good morning, FM!
Have you had the same bitter cold in your area? We had 9° yesterday morning (-10 wind chill). A bit better this morning, 25° at the moment.
No I’m afraid not ask. It’s been down in the 20’s in the mornings, but yesterday we almost made it to 60.
It’s sweater or light coat weather down here.
That sounds comfortable.
Big plans this weekend?
None what so ever. The relatives left last night, and I’m going to try and catch back up on naps.
What about you?
That sounds like my weekend!
Oldest asklet is away at the Model UN Conference. Young asklet may come, but last night it sounded as if he wants to spend the weekend with his mother. I suspect that his sister’s absence has something to do with it.
Well it looks like my weekend has already started. FMom is awake and I’ve got to make some breakfast.
See ya’ll later.
Hi AndiF and ask! Bye FM!
I think it’s warmer here than at home, but not sure it’s going to hit the 50 degree mark that was predicted.
Hoping you’ll be on CSpan – I’ll be watching!
Take pics! Have fun! Go to bed with your mascara on!
Thanks!
I’ve got an extra set of batteries charged for the camera…but CBtY is grumpy this am. Maybe some donuts will fix him?
So will be getting new pics of Booman in his undies along with pics of the march.
Toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and blackberry jam.
Hmm, that wouldn’t be the key thing I’d suggest going to be with.
I didn’t realize CBtY would be there – so it’s the PG version of a weekend.
I see, mascara is the euphemism for ‘having a wild time when your kids are around’. 🙂
Good morning, CG and SN!
Yes, I think it’s on CSPAN at 11.15 ET.

Mornin all.
The margins are all messed up for me today — the ad column is REALLY WIDE.
I’m trying to resist going to the library, getting a bunch of books and reading all day. I’m trying to tell myself that doing laundry and vacuuming would be just as much fun.
Morning Mary.
Vacuuming and cleaning are fun! Such a wonderful day you’ll have ahead of you. 🙂
The margins have been messing up on me a lot lately, but right now they seem OK.
I wonder what causes it?
It’s a gray day here. I don’t really feel like doing anything. It was a long week, by last night I was beat. But I don’t want to waste my weekend sitting around and then go back to the office on monday not having done anything.
not having done anything
You’re talking about most of my weeks. 🙂
I don’t know what causes it, but it seems to hit different people at different times. Andi had the same problem when I did too.
Well I’m off to get my pre-march nap so I can stay awake during he march.
Hope it doesn’t dampen the turnout at the SF march/rally.
Got the DC rally on the TV (thank you C-SPAN). Might do a bit of channel surfing to see how the other major outlets cover it — if they bother…
Hope everyone has a great day…
Hi Cali,
I’m watching CSPAN as well. The 6th grader from MA is giving a great speech.
Hey Cali, sorry you didn’t feel well enough to go to the SF Rally. We’re not having a rally here — there is an event for people to gather to have a picture taken and sent to Washington. No speakers. No march. And at a location that’s not near a metro stop and has no parking. Odd.
I’ve got C-Span up too.

Thin mints. Yum.
I was just going to put up a comment to see if anyone was around and you beat me to it.
So what have you done so far today Mary?
um … bought thin mints?
I went to Starbucks and then came home.
Now I’m organizing my desk space. My desktop computer crashed last weekend 🙁

Yeah, I know. It’s not the cost. It’s the hassle.
I have a laptop that I usually blog on (it’s what i’m on now). But I don’t like to do “work” work on it.
Yep after I re-read your comment I realized it was more the hassle.
It’s been so long, I’ve forgotten what work, much less “work” work is. 🙂

I’ll be back. I need to find some 3 ring binders so I can sit and organize while I blog.
I know, all that multi-tasking probably tires YOU out 🙂
Hah, just the mention of the word work tires me out. 🙂
I’m back. Did I give you time for a nice nap? 🙂
Any nap is a nice nap Mary. Plus I can multi-task too. I can nap and also sit in my chair at the sametime.
I’ve really got to clean up my desk here soon. I’ve papers, bill and god knows what spread out all over it.
It seems I’ve got to run now. Got to go downtown on an errand.
Back in a minute.
I’m back. Did ya miss me? 🙂
I did. I was hole punching with no one to distract me.
Did you go buy ice cream? 😉
Well I’m glad I can distract you from such a mundane task. 🙂
Yep had to get more fudgesicles.
🙂
that reminds me, need to do my weekly backup sometime this weekend; one of my best purchases was an external HD that I back up to once a week.
One of these days I should really back up all my purchased music to CD as well, but have been too lazy so far…
do it, do it, do it … I’m bad about backing up my purchased music and haven’t done it in a month or so. So I know some of it is lost forever.
That’s awful about your computer Maryb … My computer just crashed last w/e and initially thought I’d lost all my photos (which hadn’t been backed up – stoopid yes). After some digging around in the windows directory I found them, and spent the next 24hrs straight burning dvds and cds … eek.
I like the white sandwich cookies best. 🙂

We don’t have those here … just the choc and white sandwich cookies and the thin mints.
Well, they’re all saved in two places now. It was a hyperventilating moment for sure. 😉
Hi Olivia.
I must have missed it about your computer crashing. Sorry to hear that and that you had to spend so much time on backing up the photos.
Have you backed up your site yet? Once Farfetched explained to me how, I went ahead and did mine.
It was too traumatic … LOL
I started backing it up … yep, read that at FAR’s site.
I’m sure your site is much more massive than mine just because of the pictures, but it didn’t take that long to back mine up.
Which reminds me, I only backed it up on the hard drive. I better get somemore DVD’s to back up to.
I’m down here.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll make homemade ice cream in my new ice cream maker. I need to look up a recipe before I go grocery shopping.
I was on a homemade ice cream spree for awhile, but that’s leveled off. Once summer gets here, I might start again.
I kept looking for non-cook recipes, but the best is cooking it first.
Now eating ice cream out in under 35 degree weather is weird.
yeah, I don’t eat it outside.
Is George tired from having all the rels visiting?
Yeah him, FMom and me. But since it has been overcast and sprinkling here, I’m sure it both the rels and the weather.
Didn’t you say you had nice weather today?
It was cold and windy, but not rainy. The sun actually came out this afternoon but this morning it was gray.
I think it’s supposed to be raining here until tomorrow.
I’ve got to make dinner. Don’t want FMom filling up on fudge bars.
Back in awhile. Have fun hole punching.
I’m going to take a break from hole punching and go get something to eat. I never had lunch. Later.
But I have the best shoe picture ever for you!
Hey, I’m back. Where’s the shoes?
See my new diary… 🙂
My photos will be up shortly. Too bad I got scooped on the “Booman for Brownback” story! To mirror what we’re having here, I’m treating the FBC to a round of:

Have missed you greatly… 🙂
Is ManEE being a good boy? (If he is, tell him to stop it immediately…)
We have overrun an entire corner of the lounge here. We just toasted to a promise of returning in two years for a Democratic Presidential Inauguration. I’ll drink to that!
Hi BrotherF, we’ve missed you. Hope you’re keeping the “boys” in line. 🙂
(I exclude CBtY from that group because I’m sure his mother has him a perfect little gentleman. You’re in charge of Boo, Manny and ej.)
I’m in charge of these characters?!?! Send bail money.
