The following anecdote does not come from a left-wing blogger but from National Review Online’s The Corner. Karl Rove managed to be such a racist snob that he even offended that crowd.
According to a congressman’s wife who attended a Republican women’s luncheon yesterday, Karl Rove explained the rationale behind the president’s amnesty/open-borders proposal this way: “I don’t want my 17-year-old son to have to pick tomatoes or make beds in Las Vegas.”
And I thought Rove just wanted to keep enough of the Hispanic vote to win elections past 2004. I had too much faith in him. He wants as many wetbacks here in Las Vegas cleaning hotel rooms as he can get. That way his son won’t wind up having to do the job. Never mind that they will eventually swell the ranks of the labor unions and empower Democrats. As long as he doesn’t have to endure seeing any white hotel maids.
That was a good article and if we needed any more proof(and we didn’t)that Rove is a sick, sorry and disgusting excuse for a human being this certainly proves it once again. And seeing as how he’s ‘bush’s brain’ we have no doubt what bush thinks. Sicko bastards all.
I would love to see that slimey, smug creep make up hotel beds eight hours a day! He can follow that up with a stint of field stoop labour.
For him to JOKE about the back breaking work that people perform for sub-subsistance wages is vile.
Every exhausted hotel maid, every tired, sweaty agricultural worker is worth a thousand Karl Roves.
How DARE he denigrate the honest labour of millions of Americans who toil in thankless, dead end jobs for little pay so the rich can get richer.
it’s the racism that bothers me. I can’t interpret it any other way than that Rove thinks low-wage jobs are beneath white people.
Arrrrrgh ! That makes it EVEN WORSE!
You’re right, Booman. It’s more terrible than I thought.
I just read the Heritage Foundation’s take on “Freedom” on Eurotrib. Maybe their next agenda will contain the freedom to own slaves if their skin is darker than ours.
Well, if Karl’s son takes after his dad, I would have to agree with him.
Tell the truth, who would you trust more to have a key to your hotel room or handling your food? Give me an honest hard working Mexican any day of the week over someone raised by that slimeball.
Of course, the only reason that I mentioned “Mexican” in the above paragraph was because that is the comparison that Rove was making. For all other cases, I would prefer that you replace the word “Mexican” with “person”.
I also wouldn’t limit it to low paying menial jobs. I would certainly prefer an honest person over a Rove, in almost any job that has an effect on my life.
Maybe Rove Jr. can join the infantry next year, then we can see what sort of advice Karl give to GW.
should always be respected, regardless of whether or not it is lowly.
And it certainly is a sad and unfortunate fact that it isn’t. I worked for many years as a maid and I know exactly how people treat you and react to you when they find out you’re a maid.
I made my daughter get a job in college last year. She worked in the cafeteria, schlepping big pans of food around, probably getting burned occasionally.
Such jobs are very good for a student. No one should have the idea that they are above others, although they might have a better job. Working as a waiter, a food service worker, a janitor, a maid is a good thing, because it reminds you that all jobs are important while some are better paid than others.
My grandma was a janitor. She worked there because she needed the work.
I did that kind of job too. I worked the food service line. I cleaned plates.
All the way thru college, I worked in one place or another like that. It was not only remunerative (modestly), it was helpful, in that I didn’t need to cook, but ate as a part of the dishwashing job.
that’s how I met my first boyfriend (he was the dishwasher). Sometimes those “menial” jobs have some great benefits. 😉
I have more respect for the work done by agricultural workers and housekeepers than I do for whatever the hell it is Rove does day in and day out. Hell, even prostitution is more respectable — the client knows he’s gonna get screwed, but at least he’s likely to get his money’s worth…
Any job that pays and is legal is a good job for anyone. I cannot tell you all the different jobs I had in my youth and trust me some of them were anything but wonderful or white collar jobs. I have cleaned homes, offices and apartment buildings to pay bills and am damn proud of the work I did. The only people who think a job is beneath them is one who has never had to worry about paying bills.
Karl is one of the most sickening people on the face of the earth!!!
that racist elitist pig gets to retire Jan’09 with a nice pension, looking forward to hefty fees on the speaking circuit. Hope he won’t need a silk purse.
Christianistas should be ashamed. Oh how they were used. And Hispanics say, el hombre, fool me once.
Funny, really, since conservative Republicans are the first to complain about how the nation’s work ethic ain’t what it used to be.
When I was in my teens, I did not turn sheets or pick fruit. I did work at a grease pit in a fast food restaurant and slice deli meat in a grocery store. Am a better man for the experience.
