We’ve got drizzles and a few showers predicted for the rest of the week, and given we are still way behind on rain, I won’t complain either.
Even if I did make a hole in the bathroom wall to put in some glass bricks. Good thing I have spare sheets of plywood lying about.
I did a “dry run” today to make sure everything fits. I need a bit of molding and weather striping, which I’ll pick up tomorrow when I’m in Hobart.
Also, I’m putting a thin layer of drywall on top of the concrete sheeting, to get a smoother look and to “entomb” the asbestos in the concrete. :O Welcome to Australia, where lots of toxic substances weren’t banned until much later than in the US and Europe.
have you thought about lining it?…using a betonite clay or something of that nature. IMS, there are a lot of clayey soil down there, and surely a local product might be available. Lots of work and not expensive, but given the value of water in your locale, perhaps worthy of study.
w/ a lining you’ll be dealing with evaporative issues primarily, and the obvious need to provide an outlet, with some control of the subsequent drainage in event of an overflow.
Yes. We’ve considered the options. I have no idea when the pond was built, but it’s old and tired looking.
We’ve actually discussed building a larger one lower down the slope. Which would have the added advantage of keeping our downslope neighbor’s yard from flooding during heavy rains.
Depending on the quality of our soil, we might have a load of clay brought in. The problem here, as in many places, is dodgy workmanship. Imogen’s brother had a pond dug about two years ago, and then had to spend another $3,000 to have it re-dug and lined after the first fellow botched it up.
I think I might have mentioned it here before, but years ago a friend of mine askded for, and received, a back hoe and an empty dirt lot to play with on her birthday. Big kid fun.
And while on the subject of heavy machinery, our niece’s mum is from Germany and she and the kidlette have spent several months in Germany visiting the grandparents. In german “bugger” means heavy machinery. In Australia, it’s an exclamation kinda half way between “crap” and “sh!t”. Now, after her last trip to Germany, when our niece sees heavy machinery, she points and says, “bugger”.
I had a friend whose little boy said his t’s as f’s and he just loved fire trucks. It was great fun watching him embarrass his mother and I was really disappointed when he ‘fixed’ his pronunciation.
I’ve only driven tractors but that was enough to convince me that backhoes and bulldozers would very cool.
Would’ve been great to have a few more participants for a virtual dish…
Heading off to the airport in a few hours — had trouble with the in-room Internet the last trip so may not be posting for a few days, though I will have the laptop with me just in case. A little nervous about the trek — I’m still trying to recover from my post-9/11 fear of flying, and it’s damp out today with the chance of thundershowers (so I’ve heard), which makes me a little more nervous. Weather in Vegas is supposed to be pleasant though — mostly sunny and in the high 50s — and the weather here for the trip home Thursday is going to be similar.
Hope everyone has a great week, if I don’t get to pop in… 🙂
No such luck, Andi. My fat cat, Isabelle, makes a great show covering her stuff in the litter box, unfortunately she scrapes the wall beside the box very thoroughly but not the litter. She’s a very strange cat. So I have to cover it up until it’s um, ready to be removed.
But, I got a new coffee grinder where I can actually set the grind instead of mashing it into powder which doesn’t work in my french press. Coffee is superb this morning, and Owie is coming!
Hey, which grinder did you get? I’ve been looking for a new one, but a lot of them seem really big compared to my old one. (I have limited cabinet space, so the size of appliances is always a consideration).
It’s a cuisinart burr grinder for $29 at Costco. You can set the grind and the amount you need and it stops automatically. It’s a little bigger than an electric can opener.
You need one of the electric liiter boxes that sweeps the mess into a container at the end and you just dump that every couple of days. They are a little pricey but well worth the expense. I had one when Jerry the cat was alive and it was priceless!!!
I might conveniently have a couple of stretched canvasses and paints here in the guest room in case they want to use them. 😉 We are going to see the house, but I’m not getting my hopes up about them moving here. His wife has depression (gee, why did he choose a girl with depression?)and is very uncomfortable with change although she really hates winter. She’s from Philly and moved to Cle when she was a teenager and hates to make new friends. Sounds eerily familiar.
SN what you could do is pay the first months rent to get them into the house and tell them you paid for a year. Once they get in just tell them you lied. They’ll forgive you after a couple of years, maybe. 🙂
Woke up at 2:00 am and finally got back to sleep. It’s in the mid 30’s right now, but it will be warm by afternoon.
FMom is feeling pretty good, George is getting better and I’ve been feeling good for the last couple of days. For some reason I keep thinking the axe is going to fall soon and something will happen.
LOL At least, I didn’t say what I was really thinking at the time. I think if I had I would have gotten a warning from BooMan or lost my host status immediately. ROTFLMAO
Andi and everyone here has always been able to pull me out of situations like that. Honestly sometimes someone will say something, and I’m at a loss for words, or I just don’t know how to respond. I saw a couple of people jumped in to help out, and that’s one thing I like about the cafe.
I’ve never been to an Oscar party. When I was in Germany I had a friend that his family would send him tapes of his favorite show, so about once a quarter we would have Alf parties. Than again, back at that time we didn’t need any excuse to have a party. 🙂
I have been to quite a few oscar parties. Different themes for each one. One year we dressed as our favorite character from one of the nominated movies, another was favorite oscar winning star… you name it. We even did a red carpet night where it was more of a fashion show going in and then just a fabulous party while watching the awards.
Here is a design I did for the chapter of Stonewall that elected me President. I hated the fact that the Stonewall Logo had nothing that said it was GLBT unless it was the word Stonewall which everyone doesn’t understand the history of stonewall anyway.
Thanks!!!! I will also say the design is available on lots of items besides just t-shirt and the profits will be used to help with club activities and campaigns.
Morning Andi. Welcome to Monday.
It was a beautiful day here.
Forecast here is pretty blah but the temps are edging up toward hint-of-spring-coming so I won’t complain.
We’ve got drizzles and a few showers predicted for the rest of the week, and given we are still way behind on rain, I won’t complain either.

Is your pond finally full?
It got up to near half-full the other day when we got about an inch of rain overnight.
Unfortunately, the pond is very porous – which is good for the grass on the downslope side, but bad for keeping the water level up.

just a thought
have a good one

What a perfect excuse to learn to drive a backhoe. 😉
Now that you mention it . . . LOL.
I think I might have mentioned it here before, but years ago a friend of mine askded for, and received, a back hoe and an empty dirt lot to play with on her birthday. Big kid fun.

Good morning!
Andi, we pretty much got your weather here. Snow, a little sleet, then rain. Except our snow hasn’t disappeared yet.
Which means we have a 2-hour delay for school today. Yay!
So have you all crawled back under the covers?
The CBs are still in bed. I’m debating hopping back in for a few…
Good Morning Everyone!!! Miss Andi, I love the picture!!!! CabinGirl be careful with the messy weather and keep safe.
Looks like you and cali had a good time last night liveblogging the oscars.
(Thanks for the compliment on the pic)
LOL We had a great time!!!I wish more of the ponders had joined in the fun. LOL
Would’ve been great to have a few more participants for a virtual dish…

Have a great time, Cali!
Good morning refinish!
It’s a little icy out there. I’m glad I don’t need to go anywhere this morning, and I just have to get the boys out to the school bus by 9.
The snow is gone here but the ice isn’t. Walking is an adventure in picking out a safe path.
That is unless they wind up canceling school completely. LOL
Actually, I wouldn’t be too sad if they did. We’re all still feeling kind of under the weather with this whooping cough thing.
Good morning Refinish.
You did a great job on the Academy Awards last night. I wish I could have stuck around, but I was too sleepy.
Wow, I am NOT dipping my toes in that.
this picture isn’t visually confusing.
Hope you are having a no-poop-in-the-house morning.
No such luck, Andi. My fat cat, Isabelle, makes a great show covering her stuff in the litter box, unfortunately she scrapes the wall beside the box very thoroughly but not the litter. She’s a very strange cat. So I have to cover it up until it’s um, ready to be removed.

Hmm…I think I’ll check out my Costco.

I’ve been thinking about that but I’ll bet one of the cats would be afraid of it!
Actually cats don’t care. It doesn’t sweep until after they are done. LOL
Is he bringing any of his artwork with him? If he does, please take some more pictures.
Going to take him to the house you found?
I might conveniently have a couple of stretched canvasses and paints here in the guest room in case they want to use them. 😉 We are going to see the house, but I’m not getting my hopes up about them moving here. His wife has depression (gee, why did he choose a girl with depression?)and is very uncomfortable with change although she really hates winter. She’s from Philly and moved to Cle when she was a teenager and hates to make new friends. Sounds eerily familiar.
I hope the weather is all sunny and gorgeous while she’s there so you can talk up how good it is to have sunny, balmy days in winter.
SN what you could do is pay the first months rent to get them into the house and tell them you paid for a year. Once they get in just tell them you lied. They’ll forgive you after a couple of years, maybe. 🙂
What an evil little trick that would be! 😛
What we do for our family. 🙂
Good morning! Is your company there? Do you have cool hip plans for what to do with them?
No! I am totally uncool and hipless without C-boy. But I’ll try to fake it.
I’m sure you don’t even have to fake it. Are they going to check out the cute little house while they’re there?
Yes, and the guy keeps coming down and adding incentives!
Cute house, warmer weather, cheaper college tuition, family close by…how could they stay in Cleveland? 🙂
Good morning everyone
Woke up at 2:00 am and finally got back to sleep. It’s in the mid 30’s right now, but it will be warm by afternoon.

HI FamilyMan!!!! Glad everyone is doing better.
Hi RF.
I was telling you upthread how good you did last night. I was asleep and dead to the world once everything got started.
Thank you. I had a good time doing it and even think I handled the one downer well. LOL
Yep you did a good job on that. I think I would have been flabbergasted and not know what to say.
LOL At least, I didn’t say what I was really thinking at the time. I think if I had I would have gotten a warning from BooMan or lost my host status immediately. ROTFLMAO

Yeah they were great!!!! It was a fun way to watch the oscars since I was not at an oscar party. LOL
I’ve never been to an Oscar party. When I was in Germany I had a friend that his family would send him tapes of his favorite show, so about once a quarter we would have Alf parties. Than again, back at that time we didn’t need any excuse to have a party. 🙂

Sounds like they would be a lot of fun. They almost sound like Halloween parties.
I don’t know, but I’ve always been a spontaneous partier. Sort of like looking at a clock and saying, “It’s 9:00 am on Monday, time to party.” 🙂
I love spontaneous but the oscars are an event. LOL
Here is a design I did for the chapter of Stonewall that elected me President. I hated the fact that the Stonewall Logo had nothing that said it was GLBT unless it was the word Stonewall which everyone doesn’t understand the history of stonewall anyway.
Stonewall Democrats of Williamson County
I like it. (btw, I just had to go read the wiki for Stonewall because I had no idea of the history of it.)
Thanks!!!! I will also say the design is available on lots of items besides just t-shirt and the profits will be used to help with club activities and campaigns.
