I did a lot of canvassing this past year for the Roger Sharpe (D) campaign (NC-05) and had a lot of positive response to him and his ideas. The electorate was open minded and willing to learn about him. We all saw a huge swell of the base that got to the polls and made history last November.
I can’t see how Hillary will produce such a response from the base – and you can forget about the middle. GOTV efforts in 2008 after a Hillary nomination will be a tougher fight than we have seen in a long time. People across America love Clinton, but that status is reserved for Bill and Bill alone. Yes, Hillary has strong positives, but her negatives are just as impressive. Hillary can win the nomination, but the Presidency is a big question mark.
Of the family and friends I have talked to, no one is a big fan is a fan of Hillary Clinton, including the liberals. But Al Gore is a different story. I know of fundamentalist evangelicals that like Gore. What a difference a movie makes.
But take away White Water, the Rose Law Firm, Vince Foster, Travelgate, and the huge laundry list of Clinton scandals (all of which amounted to mostly nothing) and look at Hillary on the merits of her record. And here is just one single point that ruins her campaign and credibility for me. Anyone who continued to think the Iraq war was a good idea until as recent as six months before the last election does not have the intellectual capacity to be President.
And we have all seen what stupid gets us when it permeates the Oval Office.
No thanks. I have had enough of that biscuit.
