May the 4’s be with you
Everyone welcomed at Happy Hour. Plenty of beer and talk to go around.
I’m new! So where’s my big welcome?
Welcome SN. How have you been doing?
Let’s just say I’m fine and leave it at that. How’s the sweltering spring treating you?
AC has been on and I haven’t ever gone outside except to take George out. Actually I’ve been doing some extreme napping today.
Ooh, extreme napping! Make sure you balance your electrolytes, you big jock!
We had a nice cool and drizzly day. I had to turn the heat back on after the AC the past 3 days.
It can’t decided what it wants to do here either. We’re up in the 90’s and on Saturday we’ll be down to the 70’s.
since it’s just the two of us maybe we can sneak away and go someplace FUN! Where the heck is everyone?
Some place fun would be nice. It might be a quiet night in the cafe.
I don’t know, SN – just got back in myself.
They’ll be here soon enough.
What’s for dinner?
I just had Diet cherry 7-UP and sliced mangos. I love when the Mr. is out of town.
What? Mr. doesn’t allow you to have Diet cherry 7-up and mangos?
Allow?! Ha ha hah hahahahaha!
Well it sounded like you were having it because Mr. is out of town. Never mind. π
Hope you enjoyed.
Neither of those a favorite of mine.
We’re having left-over chili (turkey-based) – curly gets it just right.
They aren’t my favorites either, but they were the first things I grabbed in my excitement at not having to cook!
I used to eat innocent old chili, now I must have it with sour cream and avocados, which of course makes it more than fattening.
Life is too short to gob up your chili with sour cream and whatnot.
We’ve had a traumatic day at Chez Cabin…time for Indian take out. The heck with cooking.
I usually leave the whatnot out of it. I hate whatnot.
Nothing like indian food to soothe the soul.
Especially after a brushfire…
How about the beach…balmy breezes, palm trees, and frozen drinks…
I’m already sick of balmy breezes, CG. Yesterday was in the high 80s and I’m afraid I’ll have to switch back to my summer deodorant already. π
It’s warm enough down here for the beach.
Hi FM and SN!
I’ve had this ‘Friday-feeling’ all day, but curly is just in and confirms it’s still only Thursday.
A Pilsner for me, please!
Hi ask.
Pilsner coming up. Yep it’s only Thursday. π
Does it make much difference to a master slacker?
Keeping track of days, I mean – as you can see, I am practicing.
I see you are practicing. You’ll get there one day. π
I hate when that happens. You should quit your job and marry someone who doesn’t mind you sitting at home all day like a slug. Then it doesn’t matter what day it is! π
Sounds like a plan to me, but curly isn’t rich enough – so I’ll have to abandon it right away. Back to work for ask!
where it’s Friday already.
We’re getting a bit of real rain this morning.
Hi keres
I can’t see me taking that long of a trip for Friday, when everyday is Saturday to me. π
Fair enough.
Although, there are other reasons to come.
If I ever hit the big bucks, there will be one of the places I visit.
or anybody else in warm weather places but ….
Hi Andi.
That’s cool, but what is it?
Redbud flowers getting ready to open (though probably not for a few days).
At first I thought you were being invaded by outer space aliens. π
Great picture.
Now I want to go get my camera out… π
Lovely, if a bit surreal looking.
Some of our eucalypus trees are finally flowering, and yesterday we had a family of Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos down in the gully feeding on the nectar.
All buds look a bit surreal, I think. I always think it’s interesting that they really provide so little information about what eventually is going to appear.
Yeah, we all sort of start from a common “fetal” stage before going our very differnt ways.
Can you possibly get pictures of them like those last year. They are most interesting. I hadn`t even known they existed but for you.
Do you put out any kind of special food that they, in particular, like?
Hi KH. I can’t usually get good shots of birds in our bush because the follage is too dense.
I did however, get a few good shots a week or two ago when an adult and two juveniles hung out in one of our tall pines while waiting for the rest of the flock to show up.
The adult, keeping an eye out from the top of the tree.
The youngsters.
We don’t feed the wildlife. The best thing to do for Australian native animals is grow the plants that they normally feed on, and remove the plants that encourage non-natives to move into their habitat. We do however divert grey water to the native grasses during drought periods to keep the grazers (mostly wallabies and paddymelons) from wondering down out of the hills and ending up as roadkill.
We’ve put in about seventy eucalyptus trees and a few dozen native shrubs in the last two years, and we’ve probably removed about ten introduced trees and another ten large shrubs. As the new trees and shrubs get bigger, we’ll be able to take more of the non-native ones out. It’s at least a twenty year project to restore the native plants – but we’ve got time.
WoW & wOW, on the two replies to my request.
Those are some very strange birds color wise. As I mentioned last year I have a goffin I rescued along 7 others that I`m presently rehabilitating , although some will have to be in my care for the rest of their lives. The other amazing endeavor you have undertaken is one that I champion also. Laws are begining to gain traction in replacing non-natives with the natural vegetation. If we could send back all the thousands or maybe millions of “eucs” back down under, you`d profit by it, I`d guess.
The natural vegetation here which is scrub brush & succulents has been replaced with palms, & shade trees which demand much more water than the native plants, which is in short supply. Very good on you to carry out your plan, long lived as it may have to be.
I’ve got to start dinner here, so I’ll be back in awhile.
Later.
I’m in the middle of laundry, but food seems to be just about ready.
HE PASSED!!! HE PASSED!!!
The spouse FINALLY passed the blood pressure test! Unfortunately, the doctor who has to sign off on the DMV paperwork is out of the office till Monday, so he’ll go back then and get the paperwork, then head for DMV to submit it. Means I’ll have him tomorrow and the weekend for errands and cleaning, then by Tuesday he should be back in training (this time behind the wheel), and should be back at work by the day after Easter!
As you can tell, I’m quite thrilled by this news — means that it’ll hopefully only be a few weeks till we get our insurance back and I’ll be able to get some overdue stuff done, including a Pap smear, some dental work, and new glasses.
Life is FINALLY returning to normalcy (or what passes for same)…
WOO-HOO!
It’s been a long time coming, hasn’t it?
I’m so glad for you both…you must be so relieved.
Yay!
Cali!! That’s great!! (and mister is wondering how he did it. Was it medication?)
!! I’m so happy for you both!
