These are the losers that voted against funding stem cell research.

Not voting were: Dodd (D-CT) who was on the campaign trail, Johnson (D-SD) who is recovering from an illness, and Landrieu (D-LA) who was attending a funeral and showed up too late to vote, but expressed that she would have voted for the bill.
The vote was 63-34. If we add Dodd, Johnson, and Landrieu, we would have had 66 votes, or one short of overriding a veto. We have to crack one of the above senators.
The ironic thing is that if Bill Frist were still in the Senate, we’d have enough votes to override a veto.
I am pained deeply by the votes of Nelson NE and
Casey Pa. But- ya know what folks, all you fucking assholes that voted for casey pa — don’t come crying when a single voter in your ( caseys ) district comes out to describe the horror that they are having with their chid who is suffering from any of the myriad of diseases that just might have been successfully attacked with the products derived from Stem Cell Research! I hope that casey rots in the lowest level of hell! He is a piece of hit and just watch the son of a bitch when Roe type legislation shows up. I just can’t wait!
By the way- how much money did the dlc and their scum give to the casey campaign?
Now lets not forget to support these scumbags next time they are up for election.
Landrieu was attending the funeral of Coach Robinson at Grambling State University. But the record will reflect her support.
So where do we start? I guarantee you, paraplegics like my son can’t exercise forever. There are children with juvenile diabetes who won’t live to see another president. (That’s the closest cure right now.)
Whom do we swarm? Who is most threatened? It’s one vote.
stem cell treatment effective as a potential cure for type l diabetes
granted, this study involved the injection of cells that were harvested from the subjects, but it quite clearly illustrates the huge potential that such research presents.
to vote against this measure, and, in essence pave the way for the promised veto to be sustained, is to my way of thinking, a crime against humanity.
If he doesn’t, progressives should field a primary opponent. We could have done better with this seat.
hi Coral, nice to see you here!
I think the reason the subject of Casey can get explosive around here is because Chuck Pennacchio was vocally supported by BooMan, albert, CabinGirl, and many of the other PA residents during the primaries. It was the strong-armed tactics by the Establishment™ that lead to this mess. The whole ‘electability’ specter was raised just at the state level as it was in 2004 that gave us Kerry.
Given Casey’s margin, I wonder if a progressive candidate could have won but by a smaller margin.
please don’t wonder. a rotten head of cabbage would’ve beaten man on dog. reid, rendell and schumer convinced people otherwise. they choose to move to the right instead of putting up candidates more to the left.
The exit polls showed that 47% of Casey voters saw their vote as a vote against Santorum rather than a vote for Casey. A ham sandwich would have beaten Santorum in 2006.
Especially if it had some nice Dijon mustard on it…
It would be good if people in the states where candidates who voted against stem research are running to do the following. Hound them at every campaign event with one simple question: “Given your strong moral opposition to stem cell research, would you be willing to forswear in writing that neither you, you spouse, your (below the age of consent)children nor your grandchildren will ever avail yourselves of a medical treatment or therapy that was arrived at (even partially) through stem cell research?”
You are right. Many of the current human trials use autologous cells. But the research needs to be done on totally undifferentiated (not pluripotent) cells. That’s why this vote is a tragedy.
