There are a lot of good stories to write about but the weather has been so nice, after such a long, cold winter, that I have been way more interested in throwing baseballs and planting flowers. Oh well…no blogger is immune to spring fever. Geekdom has its limits.
But that’s no excuse for you, the dear reader. What kinds of stories have I been missing while I neglected my obsession?
Oh…I know…Tony Blair is stepping down, Boris Yeltsin died, France had a first-round election, they caught the guys that poisoned that dude in London, another Republican got indicted, the bees all died, David Halberstam died in a car crash after surviving Vietnam. I know that I’m a slacker, but that is what the diaries are for.
What else am I missing?
Light bulbs? Light bulbs?!?
what are you missing>
How about the fact that the Vermont legislature has voted to order their representatives to the US congress to present their instructions to call for Articles of Impeachment against cheney and the chimp.
I realize that this might not be classified as important as say the report of gingriches comment regsrding the blame for the shooting at VT. But, you asked!
Well, there are some records coming out that I’m looking forward to: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Sea & Cake, Wilco, that sorta thing. Later this year there’s Elbow and then maybe PJ Harvey. There’s a ton of other stuff too, but right now I can’t remember what the Trendy British Music Mag said, so all I remember is yuppie-in-denial music like the above cited. Man, there’s gotta be a better moniker for grown-up 90’s-era kids like me.
Oh, I remember what that was now. Sell-out. 😉
long cold winter? you mean the warmest winter in recorded history that we just had?
as a winter lover, i feel totally ripped off. it didn’t get cold until late february! and we never had a good snow storm. sure, it stayed cold a few weeks longer than usually. but it didn’t get cold at all for the first two months of winter. you want spring weather? we already had it in january! when do i get my chance
i realize that not everyone is obsessed with snow and cold like i am, but calling this winter long or cold is frankly delusional.
depends on where you where noz….we had record snowfall, record cold and a very serious winter in my neck of the woods. it’s not about global warming….it’s about climate change.
t-storms and tornado warnings tonight and 8 to 12″ of snow forecast for tomorrow…
lose the global warming terminology, it’s a useless and abused frame we don’t need
just sayin’
i’m basically where booman is. and booman is definitely not facing 8-12″ of snow tomorrow.
and the globe is warming, that’s what’s driving the change. but i agree that it might make some places colder and that could be confusing for some people. but i think that “change” sounds less threatening than “warming.”
Booman has a spine full of gin and Jello Pudding pops. He’s from deepest wilds of upper crust New Jersey and knows nothing of winter. His thermal acclimation was set in the very sunniest of climbs, so try not to hold his posh dainty hide against him.
And most important of all, Saturday Painting Palooza will have its 90th volume this weekend.
or just here for some sort of personal appearance, but Halberstam was killed at the intersection of Willow Road and Bayfront Expressway, not too far from my old stomping grounds. That’s a tricky intersection, and gets a lot of traffic as it’s not too far from the Dumbarton Bridge.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends…
answered my questions — sounds like he and his driver had just come off the bridge and were turning onto Willow to head over to see Y.A. Tittle.
This was an interesting quote from the article:
Very prescient there, David…requiescat in pacem…
we’re just down the road about 2 miles. We go through that intersection anytime we visit family to the north. Its strange to read an international headline and realize it happened so close to home.
He wasn’t…I remember that intersection quite well. It’s gotten more clogged since I left Paly and Frisco.
