Here’s what I just posted in the open thread at MLW:
I heartily agree with what Al Gore had to say about the campaign cycle…
“Having spent 30 years as part of the political dialogue, I don’t know why a 600-day campaign is taken as a given, and why people who aren’t in it 600 days out for the convenience of whatever brokers want to close the door and narrow the field and say, `This is it, now let’s place your bets’ — If they want to do that, fine. I don’t have to play that game.”
Right now I feel like I want to lead the resistance against the insanity that is the way-too-long campaign cycle, and the necessary focus on raising enough money to survive such a long campaign.
Except that I don’t have a huge following ready to do my bidding. And I don’t, at the moment, anyway, have the time I’d need to invest in stirring essays imploring people to tune out the money sucking horse race until after Labor Day.
But if I didn’t have those two strikes against me, I’d be all over this rallying cry.
It is ridiculous. Check with me next year at this time and I may be interested. And how condescending to give the two top runners most of the time. The media has a role and this isn’t it.
Mike Gravel is a riot.

I’m sorry, but 8 people do not a debate make.
