(I am posting this from Burnt Orange as this is an important message for Texans.  KT put is so well there was nothing else left to say.)

I’m a little jealous that I can’t be in Houston this weekend to help blockwalk and phonebank for Democrat Melissa Noriega and get her elected to the Houston City Council to fill the unexpired term of Republican Shelley Sekula-Gibbs. (I’ll be in Utah on behalf of ActBlue at a Democracy for America training). And I’m sure I’m not the only Texan who can’t make it physically to Houston.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t help elect Melissa- here’s how to help.

   1. Call Voters- The most important way to help is to call voters. Will you pledge to call 25, 50, or 100 voters tomorrow as part of the campaign’s Election Day GOTV plan? Email sherry@melissanoriega.com and ask for a list and leave a comment on this post saying how many you’ve pledged to call.

This is a low turnout election (maybe 2%) where reminding friendly Democratic voters to get to the polls is about the lowest stress phone banking I can imagine. There’s no arm twisting here.

   2. Donate- Not in Houston and don’t want to call? Then make a last minute contribution to Melissa’s campaign to support those that can. Since I fall into this category, I’m putting in another $25 on top of the rest of my previous campaign contributions.

Let’s put yet another nail in the coffin of Tom DeLay’s “legacy”. You really can make a difference in this election. The campaign and Burnt Orange Report are asking for you to step up to the plate.

Calling it for Team Melissa
by: boadicea
Looks like the city of Houston has one excellent new city councilperson this evening.

Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to bring this election home, from Melissa Noriega herself, to her supportive family, to the many grassroots and netroots activists who pulled out all the stops through the special election, and today’s runoff.

I hope you’re proud of yourselves. I know you must be exhausted as well as exhilarated.

And you’ve earned every bit of it.

I raise a glass in your general direction from Chez Boadicea here in Austin.

Party On, Dudes!

That is all.
