I can’t stand it.
Pelosi is at again with her appeasement tactics citing the “we don’t have a veto-proof majority” meme. If you can’t get things passed, the you begin to block, but she is not about blocking. She is not about rocking the boat.
I wonder if she has read the following list of names?
Sgt. Richard K. Parker, 26, of Phillips, Maine
Pfc. Larry Parks Jr., 24, of Altoona, Penn.
Sgt. Eric L. Snell, 35, of Trenton, N.J.
Sgt. Derek T. Roberts, 24, of Gold River, Calif.
Spc. Val J. Borm, 21, of Sidney, Neb.
Spc. Farid Elazzouzi, 26, of Paterson, N.J.
Spc. Darryl W. Linder, 23, of Hickory, N.C.
Sgt. 1st Class William A. Zapfe, 35, of Muldraugh, Ky.
Pfc. Joshua S. Modgling, 22, of Las Vegas, NV.
Those names were announced by the Pentagon YESTERDAY as having died in the war.
Pelosi should read those names into the Congressional Record and apologize for her abject failure as a Speaker of the House.
I am tired of Dem consultants that we will need to wait until the next election to bring the troops home.
Sick and tired.
What makes politician’s tick? Do they really think that their relection is more important than human life?
We were told we couldn’t rock the boat in 2004 and 2006 because “we’d” lose. Well the powder is dry. more Dems were elected and “we” still lost.
“What makes politician’s tick?”
Pork, earmarks, fat cat constituents.
Just for the hell of it I decided to do a quick Google search for California defense contractors since Stormbear mentions Pelosi in his/her diary. And although California is a big state and not exactly representative of the distribution of defense contractors nationwide, these numbers are relative to population and the segment of those populations that are employed by those defense industries.
So, just for California, Pelosi’s state, I found 17,113 distinct companies broken down by county. Seventeen Thousand, One Hundred and Thirteen… I don’t know the number that lie within Pelosi’s district but I think it’s safe to say that she’s beholden to a ton of them. Of course part of her job in Congress is to see to it that her constituents are employed. It doesn’t make her a singularly bad person. She’s more a product and a cog of our system. She’s doing her job for her state. It’s the system that’s corrupt. And she is complicit. We all are complicit in our overseas adventures because we all prosper and feed off of death and destruction, from top tomato down to helicopter riveter. And those same contractors have vested interests in, if not outright ownership of our major media outlets. So when people like you and me wonder why the democrats don’t do anything to stop the war and wonder what the hell we might be able to do to influence those with the power to stop it, we are confronted with this national tumor that’s metasticized it’s way into every fiber of our system of government.
How can any of us make a difference anymore? I sure don’t have any answers to that question. Principle is out the window. It doesn’t compute anymore. This beast will have to fall before our predicament can be reversed, and it won’t fall or go quietly unless forced to by economic collapse or disasterous military defeat. Not there yet, but I think we’re tip toeing mighty close to the edge.
Have some fun with the search functions on this site linked below. It’ll knock your socks off.
California defense contractors, by county
It looks like I missed a few when I added up the list, since the official statistic for the site is 18,050 for California. You know, after the first 5 to 10 thousand what’s a few more thousand here and there?
Cripe. That’s appalling. Can’t somebody please think of a way to make money based and peaceful activities and creativity?
Here is the data for the San Francisco Bay Area. Even though Pelosi only represents the greater part of San Francisco, the Bay Area interests are pretty much seen as common.
Defense Contractors of the 12 Bay Area Counties
Alameda – 846
Contra Costa – 370
Marin – 134
Monterey – 326
Napa – 51
San Benito – 15
San Francisco – 324 (Pelosi’s District)
San Mateo – 364
Santa Clara – 1,281 (Silicon Valley)
Santa Cruz – 117
Solano – 182
Sonoma – 140
Total – 4150
BTW, the San Francisco Bay Area makes up for almost 25% of the nation’s total GDP.
There’s a good piece on the appeasing Dems in Counterpunch today:
