I’m pretty fine. I’m halfway through a 2 week vacation. And I’m trying to appreciate having one more week rather than lamenting that half of it’s over.
We’re surrounded by woodpeckers too. And trains…. Maybe that’s what woke me up.
So far it’s a stay-at-home vacation. But we keep telling ourselves that we could get in the car and go if we want.
I guess we don’t want.
We went to the art museum yesterday. They opened a new wing a couple of weeks ago and we wanted to see it and some of our old favorites. They’ve moved a lot of stuff around and there were a lot of new things in even the old section.
It was fun. But, I can’t find any estimates for how many calories you burn looking at art. And even though we were on our feet for HOURS and HOURS — we only walked about 1/4 mile. It seems like we should get some credit though.
I was thinking about going to Worlds of Fun (sort of like 6 Flags) next week. But, I don’t want to lose my feet or hang upside down for an hour. So that’s out.
I like stay-at-home vacations. You can get things done around the house, do things locally that you always say you want to do but never have the time for, and all that stuff.
We have our usual beach vacation in NC planned, and I’d like to get up to the Adirondacks and check that out for a few days in July.
I have a friend that was horribly injured on a ride at Six flags in NJ; unfortunately, the injuries would have been far less serious if (A) the teenager running the ride had been paying attention to her request for help with the faulty safety bar before the ride even started; (B) if they had noticed something was wrong when she was screaming and trying to get their attention during the ride; and (C) if they had called and gotten her help immediately when she crawled off the ride in excruciating pain. Instead, they refused to call for help for a half-hour, telling her the park was closing and she’d have to make her own way out of the park.
Hi Cabin Girl. My brother and I, along with our families have been packing our mom’s things for a move to a new apartment. We found she’s been hoarding several old photo albums with family pix from around 1920 – 1955, heretofore unseen. It’s slowed the packing process considerably;-)
This morning, I’m scanning a few for the California cousins.
We don’t have too many old pictures like that, but the ones I have I adore. My favorite is the steamship ticket with everybody’s names listed on it and the picture of the boat that my Dad’s family came over on in 1949. I have a few of my mom’s parents too, but they really don’t seem to have taken many pictures.
I bet your cousins will be excited to see the pictures.
Things seemed to slow down after Ductape left last year (has anyone heard from him since last fall?)
It’s going pretty well now. We had a little confrontation between my too most prolific commentors (who are among the few regulars who didn’t come from here originally.) I was afraid they were gone forever, but things seem close to normal again.
I would have missed them. They’re both very analytical about what they’re doing. One is on Weight Watchers and the other on Atkins. And I think it adds a lot to the site to get the inside scoop on those programs from people who are living with it.
Mrs. Dem is a more than a little irritated that I lost 30+ lbs. by switching to diet pop and cutting back on pizza and ice cream (as well as more exercise). She is on two meds that have a serious weight gain side effect, but we’re working with her med doc to switch to something different. The last med cocktail took several years to settle in, so its something we don’t take lightly.
That’s a problem with a fair-number of medications, I think. Weight gain is a side effect of diabetes medication too (apparently when you get the insulin working again, you start metabolizing the sugar instead of just peeing it away – virtually undigested – and then you gain weight.)
She and the tubes are not often on friendly terms, but its an idea. She much prefers the printed page and often can be found haunting the local library shelves.
I don’t mean to push it. But, it’s really made a difference to me. I’m SURE that I would have regained all that weight I lost if it wasn’t for E4T. Instead, I’m back on track to lose even more….And I’ve still got a long way to go.
I’ll take a look for her. I was at the site some time ago, but politicking intervened. After my first 6 months in office (as a minor bureaucrat), I sometimes feel as if I’m in the middle of Brazil😉
Just stopped by on my way out to go run a bunch of errands. I hope you have a nice, relaxing day full of pleasant day dreams (maybe you can go out for one of you nice drives and look for an actual more scenic place to put in your dreams).
Good morning, Andi!
A new record – 3 of 3 suitcases missing!
(We arrived late for our connecting flight from Copenhagen this morning – it should all arrive some time later today.)
Glad you are all there safe and sound, even without luggage. You could try thinking of this as a hiking trip, making the dirty clothes just a part of the ethos.
I would, however, have to go buy a toothbrush and toothpaste right away; I can’t deal with morning mouth.
We’re taken well care of at my youngest sister’s & family – and also got complementary toiletries bags when reporting the missing items. Still, it’s a headache – and we had planned to leave for the cabin early tomorrow. Hope they show up today.
Have you soaked enough?
We’ll cross fingers and claws for you so you can get to that lovely cabin and take beautiful pictures that you can post in cafe (altruisism? what’s that?).
I might be soaked enough but the ground isn’t. Despite all the rain, there’s almost no water in the creeks because the ground is soaking all the moisture up.
We should ship some rain from here, gray and overcast now, but apparently, it had rained for 36 straight hours++ until this morning, with a total of 3 inches. And there is more to come later in the week. 🙁
Just back from walking in the rain — since it’s warm, the canopy is very heavy, and the rain wasn’t too hard, it was just lovely. If you have rain, I’ll hope for the same for you.
We slept in, and now it’s time to head out for some odds and ends for the CBs for camp this week. I can’t believe how much stuff we have to do on a Sunday!
Glad you all arrived safely, and bummer about the luggage. At least they found it.
Washing Albert is not that bad actually. The trick is to hold him in a tub full of warm water so that he’s essentially floating. If he can’t get his feet onto anything solid he just rests his weight on your hand cupping his belly. Of course, getting the soap to penetrate his dense fur is another matter. Fortunately, he hasn’t needed more than a half-dozen baths thus far.
At the moment he’s trying to break into the bedrooms, with no success. And Luna is asleep on the floor next to me, with her feet paddling to the rhythm of her dreams.
Actually, he sits his ample bottom down right in front of the the side of the door that opens, and scrabbles with both front paws for all he’s worth. Since the latch doesn’t always catch properly, he frequently gets rewarded by the door opening a crack – which he then pushes through.
Getting the door open is the real goal though, as he often gets in the room only to turn around and leave immediately. Sometimes we close an interior door with the latch undone just so he can enjoy his little triumph.
Yes, it’s very entertaining – except when Imogen gets up before I do and lets Albert loose (he spends nights in the Laundry room), so that he’s scratching at our bedroom door while I’m still trying to doze on the other side of it.
You should see our bedroom door, it has a few big scratches in the paint at Luna height, and lots of little ones at Albert height.
Good morning/evening – keres and Andi.
Just past noon here.
Suitcases were finally delivered about an hour ago and we’re getting ready to depart (about 2.5 hrs drive) shortly.
I’ll try to check in occasionally. Hope everyone has a great week, whether working or not.
At least it’s a pretty mild rain…hopefully we won’t get it all week. And today is indoor rock gym for one of them anyways. What do they do on rainy camp days with b2boy?
We did get our camp supplies, which turned out to be 2 pairs of Crocs instead of the usual water-type sandals; we’re recycling everything else. Now I keep thinking of that picture of W with the Crocs and socks…yeesh.
And I finally got new sunglasses so I don’t have to squint anymore…I think they’re a bit Jacki-O-ish, though.
What are you guys doing hanging out in the middle of the thread?
We need rain. Send rain. And Jackie-O sunglasses are all you can find anymore. Just add your little shih tzu (sp?) and you’ll look just like Paris Hilton. Minus the ditzy sluttiness, of course.
I got a new-ish car and I haven’t had a chance to drive it yet because I’ve been feeling shitty. So my goal is to actually leave the house. Yay for me!
I have replaced my soccer mom image with, um….an older soccer mom image. A 2001 Volvo wagon. With the leather seats and the sound system in that thing I’m thinking of living in it.
but it does have a nice comfy dog-kennel type thing there for Hopey. We’re going to the beach this weekend and now I’m actually looking forward to the drive. I have to sneak the dog into the cottage because the inlaws don’t want pets there, but the image of basset hound meets Atlantic ocean is too much to pass up.
I just stopped by to check in over lunch. I’m at home but with all the traveling I’ve been doing over the last few weeks I’m really stacked up with work so I haven’t been spending very much time on line.
It was a lovely day today, and Luna had a very long bath (I wanted to get her drier than usual because of the cold weather – so we spent 20 whole dollars at the dog wash, mostly to use the blower) followed by a very long walk at the dog park.
Right now, Albert is washing his face and ears in front of the wood stove. All in all, it’s been a good day for everyone.
(and I guess I’ll have to actually get up and pack)
Thanks for the sympathy. I expect it will hit me for real when I get out there — and he’s not there.
His family has been through a lot. His sister, my oldest cousin died when she was 16 after a 4 year struggle against Hodgkin’s Disease. She died about a year after we moved to Kansas and I didn’t go to her funeral. It took me years to adjust to that.
And their father died 3 years ago from lung cancer.
They’re off at camp this week: CBtY is fossil hunting, and CBtE is on a day trip to the beach today.
Which means I should be getting to work shortly. I ws procrastinating yesterday, just enjoying the peace and quiet, since it was the first day that I haven’t one or the other home since the end of May.
Ah, fresh clean spaces…sorry, but you’ll have to hit ‘recent comments’ to finish off you old conversations. :/
How’s everyone this morning?
I guess I’m not as sleepy as I’d like. Otherwise, everything’s fine. How about you?
I’m more sleepy than I’d like…BUt adjusting. The woodpeckers keep attacking my house and waking me up.
How are you?
I’m pretty fine. I’m halfway through a 2 week vacation. And I’m trying to appreciate having one more week rather than lamenting that half of it’s over.
We’re surrounded by woodpeckers too. And trains…. Maybe that’s what woke me up.
Did you go anywhere on your vacation, or have you just been relaxing and putzing at home this week?
I’m looking forward to my vacation at the beginning of August…it seems so far away, though!

I was thinking about going to Worlds of Fun (sort of like 6 Flags) next week. But, I don’t want to lose my feet or hang upside down for an hour. So that’s out.
We might go driving around the Flint Hills.
Have you got plans for your vacation?
I like stay-at-home vacations. You can get things done around the house, do things locally that you always say you want to do but never have the time for, and all that stuff.
We have our usual beach vacation in NC planned, and I’d like to get up to the Adirondacks and check that out for a few days in July.
I saw that lost foot story…how awful!
It didn’t happen here in KC but I’m still scared. They say on the news that those rides are totally unregulated. Is that true?
I have a friend that was horribly injured on a ride at Six flags in NJ; unfortunately, the injuries would have been far less serious if (A) the teenager running the ride had been paying attention to her request for help with the faulty safety bar before the ride even started; (B) if they had noticed something was wrong when she was screaming and trying to get their attention during the ride; and (C) if they had called and gotten her help immediately when she crawled off the ride in excruciating pain. Instead, they refused to call for help for a half-hour, telling her the park was closing and she’d have to make her own way out of the park.
I haven’t been to an amusement park since then.
Good morning Andi, ask, and Indianadem!
Happy vacation, ask!
Is it raining where you are, Andi? We’ve had the most gorgeous weather here this week.
Happy Saturday, Indianadem. Any big weekend plans?
Hi Cabin Girl. My brother and I, along with our families have been packing our mom’s things for a move to a new apartment. We found she’s been hoarding several old photo albums with family pix from around 1920 – 1955, heretofore unseen. It’s slowed the packing process considerably;-)

Good morning katiebird! How goes the web site?
Hi Indianadem!

Would she be interested in visiting Eat4Today?
She and the tubes are not often on friendly terms, but its an idea. She much prefers the printed page and often can be found haunting the local library shelves.
I don’t mean to push it. But, it’s really made a difference to me. I’m SURE that I would have regained all that weight I lost if it wasn’t for E4T. Instead, I’m back on track to lose even more….And I’ve still got a long way to go.

No bike ride but just got back from a nice walk first in a light rain and then in a downpour. Everybody is soaking wet and I couldn’t be more pleased.
Hi kb! Having you come by just makes my happy, rainy Saturday even more delightful.
And happy-the-CBs-are-on-vacation to you, CG. How soon is it is happy-the-CBs-are-at-camp?
And seeing you here (at the same time – more or less – as me makes me happy too.
We had rain last night, but it’s sunny and cool out today. I just got back from my first walk.
(dreaming of moving to a more scenic home)
Just stopped by on my way out to go run a bunch of errands. I hope you have a nice, relaxing day full of pleasant day dreams (maybe you can go out for one of you nice drives and look for an actual more scenic place to put in your dreams).
Mmm…I’ll pass on that wet-dog smell thing.
Monday is a happy-CBs-to-camp day!
I’m trying to convince the folks here that we need to take a bike ride in this gorgeous weather.
Good morning, Andi!

Here; rain = cold – almost without exception (low 60s).
Luggage is now located, but will only be delivered tomorrow.
Where is everyone today?
We slept in, and now it’s time to head out for some odds and ends for the CBs for camp this week. I can’t believe how much stuff we have to do on a Sunday!
Glad you all arrived safely, and bummer about the luggage. At least they found it.
(waves hi to Andi)
and indicating, I hope, the end of the 7 week dry spell.
as homemade chocolate ice cream. 🙂
Hi all. It’s already below freezing this evening. And for the last week or so we’ve been waking up to a world white with frost. Must be winter.
Imogen is away until Thursday, so it’s just me and the fur-people until then. I guess I should work on the fence while she’s gone.
Tomorrow’s big plans are proofing the magazine at the printers and washing Luna. Woo, and might I add, hoo!
Sorry to hear that Imogen is gone again. 🙁
Somehow I imagine that washing Luna is 10 times easier than washing Albert.
Now I have this image of Albert throwing himself, forepaws out front, repeatedly against a door.
Actually, he sits his ample bottom down right in front of the the side of the door that opens, and scrabbles with both front paws for all he’s worth. Since the latch doesn’t always catch properly, he frequently gets rewarded by the door opening a crack – which he then pushes through.

You should see our bedroom door, it has a few big scratches in the paint at Luna height, and lots of little ones at Albert height.
Since it’s Monday, I’ll just avoid using ‘good’ to describe anything.
Hey Ask, hope you and your very own toothbrush have made it out to the cabin.
We’ll be looking forward to some pictures, even if we have to wait till you get back.
Have a great week!
Have a great time!
Happy Monday.
We got the rain today, just in time for summer camp. 🙂
I hear that we’re supposed to be getting your rain, also our first day camp. Did you get all your camp supplies?
At least it’s a pretty mild rain…hopefully we won’t get it all week. And today is indoor rock gym for one of them anyways. What do they do on rainy camp days with b2boy?
We did get our camp supplies, which turned out to be 2 pairs of Crocs instead of the usual water-type sandals; we’re recycling everything else. Now I keep thinking of that picture of W with the Crocs and socks…yeesh.
And I finally got new sunglasses so I don’t have to squint anymore…I think they’re a bit Jacki-O-ish, though.
It seems to be clearing up already, btw.
As for the shih-tzu thing…maybe I could be ditzy for a day…slutty, not so much.
What are you up to today?
I got a new-ish car and I haven’t had a chance to drive it yet because I’ve been feeling shitty. So my goal is to actually leave the house. Yay for me!
Ooh, what did you get?
I have replaced my soccer mom image with, um….an older soccer mom image. A 2001 Volvo wagon. With the leather seats and the sound system in that thing I’m thinking of living in it.
Ooh, does it have the extra seats in the way back too? 🙂
but it does have a nice comfy dog-kennel type thing there for Hopey. We’re going to the beach this weekend and now I’m actually looking forward to the drive. I have to sneak the dog into the cottage because the inlaws don’t want pets there, but the image of basset hound meets Atlantic ocean is too much to pass up.
I’m just imagining those short little legs and the surf. Too funny. Are all the kids coming too?
I still have another month till it’s beach time for us. sigh.
We’ve got the cottage for ten days but I think we’ll be there in shifts as our schedules allow….probably not all at the same time.
On another topic, my son the swanky bartender made me a pear-cilantro margarita at his uber chic tequila lounge. wow, was it good!
That sounds yummy. Maybe he’ll share some drink recipes for a special Friday Happy Hour cafe? 🙂
In the rain, the kids get under rustic shelters and inside some cabins on site. Crocs are a great idea instead of those water shoes.
I saw you over at Olivia’s place. And thought I’d see if you were still here??
Are you home or traveling?
I just stopped by to check in over lunch. I’m at home but with all the traveling I’ve been doing over the last few weeks I’m really stacked up with work so I haven’t been spending very much time on line.
But it’s good to see you come by BT.
Morning Andi.
I just got back from my morning walk. It was so humid I’m betting I’m just as wet as Luna but without having to take a bath.
Did you take that this morning?
It’s so humid here, I feel like I got a free sauna while running the boys over to camp this morning.
How’s work going? I’m still playing catch up from the beginning of the month.
Yup picture was this morning.
It’s gawdawful humid here, too so there won’t be any relief heading your way.
Work? Ugh. I’m buried and not likely to dig out until well after we take vacation. But at least I don’t have any travel until after vacation.
(peeking in)
I think we are fated never to be in the cafe at the same time.
But maybe you’ll peek back in before I have to bury myself in work.
(giggle) I shouldn’t ever right anything before I scrape the sleep out of my eyes, I guess.
Are you still here?
I’m packing for a sudden trip to San Francisco. A close cousin died unexpectedly yesterday (between his house and his car on the way to work)
The memorial won’t be until next week. But, I’m on vacation this week. So, I’m going out to be with the family while I can.
I’m still here, though I’ll have to go bury myself in work in a few.
My sympathies for your loss. I hope you are able to take some time to enjoy the gorgeous coast.
000
Did you have a nice walk?
Nice walk but soggy (humidity).
Unfortunately, I must now go off to be a worker bee.
Safe journey.
Thanks. I’ll try to stop in now and then. But, I know this time is the best for catching you. And I’ll be on California time for the rest of the week.
Take care.
I’m sorry about your cousin, but glad you’ll be able to be there with your family this week.
Thank, CB. I’m very glad too.
It would have been very difficult for me to take off next week. So, if a person can be lucky in such a situation, that’s me.
Have you got all the CabinBoys home again?
They’re off at camp this week: CBtY is fossil hunting, and CBtE is on a day trip to the beach today.
Which means I should be getting to work shortly. I ws procrastinating yesterday, just enjoying the peace and quiet, since it was the first day that I haven’t one or the other home since the end of May.
I knew camp figured into it, but couldn’t remember if they were coming, going or gone.
I hope work goes well. And that yesterday was fun.
Morning CG, keres, Andi …
Hi Olivia. I LOVE your poppy. (Dang that Andi)
(and hi to all who show up later)
Gotta go work.
Ta.
(Late) Good morning all! Warm and humid today here in the Valley.
(except for Ask who is probably quite happy to lose track of what day it is).
