Wonderful. Darcy Burner narrowly lost to Dave Reichert (R-WA-08) in the 2006 election. She’s running again and she’s raised a lot of money. So, in steps Rodney Tom to challenge her in the primary. Tom converted to the Democrats in 2006. And Congressional Quarterly has the gall to say this:
Burner received significant assistance from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee throughout the campaign year in 2006, but Tom’s entry puts any early national party support for Burner in jeopardy.
Here’s a message to Chris Van Hollen: you best stick with the Democrat in this race or back off entirely and stay neutral.
I would like to think Burner will roll all over him like a blue-clad steamroller, but there are suggestions that the 8th CD — which has never yet elected a Democrat — might take to a “Democrat lite” like Tom.
I honestly don’t know what to make of it. I don’t live in the 8th (though I do work there) so I don’t know what the mood of the place is. Reichert (R-Helmet Hair) is vulnerable, and I think Burner might just be able to take him out, but I don’t want her to have to go through a big primary fight to get there.
Cegelis redux.
