Hi CabinGirl! I was just whining in the last cafe about both of us being down with an evil stomach bug for over a week. Enjoyed everyone’s vacation pics;-)
Andi, if you’re still around, maybe you can entice Second Nature here sometime for a mini-meetup. Have fun in Cincy.
The sad thing is, we’re so behind at the office that I’ve had to go to work anyway. all week my day has been punctuated by frequent mad dashes to you-know-where.
Your vacation spot looks lovely. I miss the days when I lived by the coast in Florida, but not the summer heat. Its just as muggy and hot in our part of the midwest as it was there.
I spent a lot of summer time in Florida as a kid. It always amazed me that the weather there was really pretty similar to SE PA summer weather. Humidity, humidity, humidity…
The weather here has been really nice. Breezy, not too hot. Unlike last year, when it was triple digits and still air until the day before we left.
Mrs. Dem got to the NC beach week before last with a friend as a side trip from Chapel Hill. I’m not sure exactly where they were, but probably not near the outer banks.
from exciting suburban cincinnati, ohio! where the kids and I will see the Fs around noon before my niece’s outdoor (yuck) wedding this afternoon. Mmmm, outdoors in southern ohio in august. Anyone have one of those squirt-bottle fans?
Just got back from the city and grocery shopping. I feel too worn out now to cook dinner, so I’ll let everybody fend for themselves.
Hope you had a good lunch with the Fs. More power to ya on the outdoor wedding. In conditions like this, they should think of wet tee shirt weddings. 🙂
Yeah, toasty here, isn’t it? Sometime maybe you can come on over this way a little further for a meetup. Some friends just opened a new coffee house and cafe. Dessert’s on me and they have some tasty mud pies;-)
The old building housed a weekly community newspaper for decades and we sipped our coffee last Saturday, I recalled where the huge old linotype crouched back when I was a kid. If I dig really deep among my kid treasures, I bet I still have the lead slug with my name the operator made for me.
Good morning, FM!
Don’t let all the visitors wear you out!
It’s a cool 52 here this morning – how about that? Absolutely clear skies and dry, sun about to rise.
Another hot and humid day here, too. Plus we had thunderstorms last night so it will be a steam bath this morning.
Jim and I had a great time visiting with Second Nature yesterday. We even got to meet two of her kids and some of her sisters (they were gathering for a family wedding).
The wedding is adorable though really hot…but thankfully very short. The reception was down at the riverfront in a building with no AC and all of the fans kept blowing fuses. Fortunately a big thunderstorm rolled through and blew rain and wind through the place. It was bittersweet seeing all of the younger generation now in their late teens and twenties and with so damn much energy and inner light….sigh.
Heading back now for a 9 hour, rainy, hot drive. Double ick.
Good morning all. We actually had a breeze here but it will be another very warm day here. We’re off to a 40th birtday party. I remember turning 40 way back when.
Good morning everyone, what’s left of it, anyway. Mrs. Dem and I got in some serious slacking this morning, having slept in until just a little while ago.
at your place and I didn’t buy it there and I ain’t buying it here. I’ve been in The South™ at all times of year and know what the weather is like so your excuse won’t hunt. 😛
Ah gee Andi (whinning), I thought I had a good excuse for being slackerly. Hey I just realized I don’t need an excuse. I’m am slackerly, therefore slackerly is me! 🙂
When most people speak of “crossing the pond” they mean the Atlantic Ocean…..but in FM’s case it’s actually A POND. Morning you two. Gorgeous shot after a 10 hour drive in the rain yesterday.
I saw that it’s supposed to be 100 even here this week. Ick.
There was a wedding on the island near the British Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, and when I went paddling out to watch the sunset (where we went last year) I got treated to listening to the bluegrass music from the wedding out on the water. It was so cool.
Good morning! We got back from the beach last night, and I’m not exactly thrilled about getting back into the old routine this morning. I didn’t miss work a bit. 🙂
No I never have been there, but I’ve heard how beautiful it is. I’d like to take a trip back up into the Northeast, but I’d like to go west too, to see all the stuff I missed from before.
Heh you and many others were waiting. 🙂 he came a lil over a week early which isn’t so bad. I was due on the 12 th so it all works out. I have the battery charging right now so it should be an hour or so for that promised pic. 😀
Labor was only 5 hours long…I got to the hospital at 8pm and had him at 9:31. Completely natural though that certainly was not the plan! The anesthesiologist was in the middle of a c-section when I got there so…sigh. 🙂 But all and all not a bad thing. Was 4 cm dilated when we got in…45 mins later was 6…and then 15 mins later was 9 so there ya go! Apparently I am now legendary at the hospital for the really quick birth. All of nurses came by to see him and were talking to everyone else about it lol.
I actually miss stormy weather. We don’t really get big thunderstorms or tornado watches around here like we always did in the midwest. I don’t think it ever went below 76 overnight and it’s like a sauna already. Yuck, yuck yuck. I’m dreaming of october.
Here’s a new cafe for the weekend…
Hi CabinGirl! I was just whining in the last cafe about both of us being down with an evil stomach bug for over a week. Enjoyed everyone’s vacation pics;-)

I’m here…I responded to your comment in the other cafe too. Glad you’re feeling well enough to type this morning. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the pics. I don’t think we’ve seen enough of Andi’s yet. 🙂
The sad thing is, we’re so behind at the office that I’ve had to go to work anyway. all week my day has been punctuated by frequent mad dashes to you-know-where.

Yuck. Bing sick at work is no fun.

It’s going to be another hot one down here today. Hope everyone’s weekend has been going well, and you’ve slacked when possible.
Good morning, FM!
Don’t let all the visitors wear you out!
It’s a cool 52 here this morning – how about that? Absolutely clear skies and dry, sun about to rise.
I’ll give it another couple of day before I’m worn out. By then I’ll be ready for them to leave. 🙂
It’s 75 at the moment here. 52 is our winter weather.
Another hot and humid day here, too. Plus we had thunderstorms last night so it will be a steam bath this morning.
Jim and I had a great time visiting with Second Nature yesterday. We even got to meet two of her kids and some of her sisters (they were gathering for a family wedding).
Hi Andi.
Sounds like you were at a Second Nature family gathering. Glad ya’ll had a good time.
No rain down here, it’s just hot.
We met up at the hotel where the people who were going to the wedding were staying so various folks came by where we were sitting in the lobby.
That sounds cool. SN said it was an outside wedding. I hope she didn’t have heat stroke while out in the open. 🙂
She was definitely not happy about the combination of heat and outdoor wedding.
I’m off for the morning walk before it gets too hot.
See ya later.
Enjoy your walk Andi and see ya later.
Good morning, Andi!
Sounds like you had a great day yesterday.
Well, coffee is ready and curly is up.
See you later.

Be careful driving in that rain and have a safe trip home.

Good morning everyone, what’s left of it, anyway. Mrs. Dem and I got in some serious slacking this morning, having slept in until just a little while ago.
O’Hare Airport doesn’t get any better after 6 hours.
and welcome back from YK to all who went.
Good morning Andi and nice shot.
Thanks. Of course, if you would just go over on the other side of the pond, you could take a great sunrise shot, too. 😉
Hah! I’m waiting for the 30 second window when the seasons change down here. 🙂
at your place and I didn’t buy it there and I ain’t buying it here. I’ve been in The South™ at all times of year and know what the weather is like so your excuse won’t hunt. 😛

The Tao of Jethro.
When most people speak of “crossing the pond” they mean the Atlantic Ocean…..but in FM’s case it’s actually A POND. Morning you two. Gorgeous shot after a 10 hour drive in the rain yesterday.
Did you have rain all the way down?
How was the wedding?
We had rain all the way until we crossed into NC where it hasn’t rained since the Clinton administration.
The wedding was hot and sticky, but very sweet.
Glad your trip was last week and not this – supposed to be over 100 a couple of days this week. Uck.
100 degrees isn’t anything. Now that you are a Southerner, you should be used to it. ;P
I saw that it’s supposed to be 100 even here this week. Ick.

Hey you’ve got to have your priorities. That a big job of getting all the way around the pond. 😛
In this heat it is a huge job just moving one’s limbs, I agree.
My job today is to try to get some feeling back into my butt after sitting in a car 2 out of the last 3 days.
I feel for ya. It seems 30 minutes is all I want to drive now.
Not on the rain, though, since so many places are doing without (but sorry it didn’t seem to get to NC).
Did everybody make it back alive (or is there one less BF to steal Ryan away to worry about)?
He survived, but barely. I was scouting possible burial sites along the WV turnpike, of which there turn out to be many.
10 hours in a car with someone who annoys has been known to be deadly…your restraint is admirable.
Good morning! We got back from the beach last night, and I’m not exactly thrilled about getting back into the old routine this morning. I didn’t miss work a bit. 🙂
How was your lunch Saturday?
Glad you have a good time. Now you can start counting down until next vacation time. 🙂
Already have the same place for next year. 🙂
I think I still want to squeeze in a run up to the Adirondacks before the summer ends. Ever been there?
No I never have been there, but I’ve heard how beautiful it is. I’d like to take a trip back up into the Northeast, but I’d like to go west too, to see all the stuff I missed from before.
Hope the vacation went as well as the posted pics suggested it did.
George is whining to go out, and I’ve got to get the day started.
Everyone have a good day in the pond.
since I last checked in…
Bradley James was born on sat aug 4th at 9:31 pm. 6lbs 12 oz. 21 in.
I will get a pic up soon! We literally just got home from the hospital so it might be later on today for the pic. Now it’s time for a nap! 🙂
Welcome to the world Bradley James!
Congratulations!
I’ve been wondering when he was coming – looking forward to the pictures!
Heh you and many others were waiting. 🙂 he came a lil over a week early which isn’t so bad. I was due on the 12 th so it all works out. I have the battery charging right now so it should be an hour or so for that promised pic. 😀

Yay for early (but not too early) and quick-arriving babies!
Being the mother of 2 6-hour babies, I can’t imagine anything longer. I’m glad everything went so smoothly for you.
I’ll be checking back for that photo. 🙂
And get that sleep while you can. 🙂
Congratulations!!!
enough of this languishing around in the lap of luxury – get to work and post those pictures!
Just kidding, of course. Sleep, rest, nap, sleep and sleep some more. And smell that baby’s head for me.
and it’s already a steambath out there. Yuck.
Morning/Afternoon/Evening.
Good morning, Andi!
It’s the same here – a yucky 76 already, gray skies and humid.
Heat index is going to be around 110 for the next few days. I hate summer.
Good morning ask and Andi.
76 is good ask. We’re at 78 with a heat index of 81 already. They’re predicting near 100 regular temp for us again today. I want winter!
I’m not ready for winter but fall would be very, very good.
Your fall is our winter. 🙂
— for me — is that my wished for season comes much sooner. 😛
Off to walk with the dogs before it’s so hot we all just turn into a puddle. See ya later
See ya, enjoy the walk.
I don’t know why but I feel like there’s one missing from this picture.
Good morning, Andi!
Beautiful virgin forest.
It’s been pouring down since 3 am, a lot. Thunder and lightening show all morning.
Rain sounds nice (without the thunder and lightning) — we have had a really dry summer and the woods are a bit stressed.
It is beautiful but I’m sorry to say it’s all second (or third or fourth) growth around here.
Well, even if not virgin forest in the true sense, it looks as if it hasn’t been touched for quite some time.
The amount of rain coming down this morning is amazing, wouldn’t mind sharing some with you.
at least the sidewalk gutters will get cleaned out. 😉
They sure will.
Just hope it lets up before noon, which is when I have to leave the apt today (I have a slackerly morning lined up).
I need to go unslack now and walk with the dogs before the steambath becomes unbreathable.
Have a good (dry) one.
Good morning Andi and ask.
Nice picture Andi. That one missing might have gone looking for water.
Ask, good for you on the slackerly morning. I just saw they have tornado warnings for NYC.
I’m outta here and into the yuck.
Bye Andi, enjoy the yuck.
Good morning, FM!
Yes, we don’t get too many tornado warnings around here – it seems to have passed already, though.
Morning ask.
Yeah that sort of surprised me to see a tornado warning up there. It’s like I’ve been saying, with the weather you’re having, welcome to our weather.
I actually miss stormy weather. We don’t really get big thunderstorms or tornado watches around here like we always did in the midwest. I don’t think it ever went below 76 overnight and it’s like a sauna already. Yuck, yuck yuck. I’m dreaming of october.
It’s only 78 right now. Feel like I need a sweater to go outside. 🙂
Yep I’m looking forward to October too. Actually I’m looking forward to Dec. and Jan. What passes up North for fall is our winters.
Hi al. Much rain, high humidity and now the sun is coming out to make things worse. I hope the boran2 boy keeps cool at camp.
Hiya Boran.
Stay cool and here’s hoping boran2 boy keeps cool at camp.
Thanks, FM, you too.
Heat index is going to be 110.
I hate summer.
Good morning, and sorry to hear that.
A ‘cool front’ has finally come through. Quite pleasant morning (slept till 7.15!) – 75, headed for 83 today.
Good morning Andi and ask.
We’re heading to 110 also. I need coffee.
