It’s only fair. Obama has been going around telling everyone how bipartisan he is and how, when he’s president, he’s going to unite the country and all that. So, someone finally asked him who these mythic Republicans are that he is going to work with.

“On foreign policy I’ve worked very closely with Dick Lugar,” Obama said. “I consider him one of my best friends in the Senate. He’s someone I would actively seek counsel and advice from when it came to foreign policy.”

“Senator Warner is another example of somebody with great wisdom, although I don’t always agree with him on every issue,” Obama said.

Lugar and Warner have their considerable faults…no doubt. But you have to work with someone. Obama has served under Lugar on the Foreign Relations Committee. It’s a good thing that they respect each other. Warner is probably going to retire, but he’s a good resource even if he is almost always wrong. In the field of corrupt and crazy Republicans, these two are fairly solid. However…

“I would also seek out people like Tom Coburn, who is probably the most conservative member of the U.S. Senate. He has become a friend of mine.”

There’s no accounting for taste.
