Why isn’t this the prevailing wisdom?
In a survey conducted Aug. 17-24 for ABC News, the BBC and NHK, the Japanese broadcaster, among a random national sample of 2,212 Iraqis, 72 percent in Anbar expressed no confidence whatsoever in United States forces. Seventy-six percent said the United States should withdraw now — up from 49 percent when we polled there in March, and far above the national average.
Withdrawal timetable aside, every Anbar respondent in our survey opposed the presence of American forces in Iraq — 69 percent “strongly” so. Every Anbar respondent called attacks on coalition forces “acceptable,” far more than anywhere else in the country. All called the United States-led invasion wrong, including 68 percent who called it “absolutely wrong.”
Why don’t I see David Broder discussing this?
Al Qaeda, it should be said, is overwhelmingly — almost unanimously — unpopular in Anbar, as it is in the rest of Iraq. But our enemies’ enemies are not necessarily our friends. The United States, it turns out, is equally unpopular there.
Do you think Al Qaeda will suddenly become popular in Anbar province if we leave? Do you think we’ll suddenly get popular if al-Qaeda leaves?
We are not succeeding. The can be no ‘return on success’. The Republicans are willfully lying to you…and to themselves.
what else is new? The problem is that we are well aware of this piece of shit and his bunch of evil cronies. Now, we have another problem. The poodle is gone but don’t worry- here comes the french frier!
Yup- one more fucking right wing conservative bottom dweller rises up to show everyone that the Republic is back!
When does this insanity end?
if Blair was a poodle does that make Sarkozy a welsh corgi?
I agree with you 100%. I picked up on that point when I read the report on the poll numbers last week:
The bush mantra: LIE BIG! Overwhelm everyone with big lies and many of them. Make the claims so outrageous that people don’t even know where to begin on refuting them with facts…
