“When the government awards a billion dollars in sweetheart mercenary contracts to a wealthy Republican family in Michigan, that’s “private enterprise.” But when the government helps a struggling middle-class family in Maryland send its children to the doctor, that’s creeping socialism.” –Joe Conason
Yeah, and a rising tide lifts all boats, too, right? Except when they’re in separate locks…
about time someone decided to post re the Family link. Blackwater is umbilically tied to the bush admin.Like they say- follow the money!
Study: 41 million in U.S. can’t afford basics
One in five working families has a tough time affording basics like shelter and health care while earning too much to qualify for food stamps or Medicaid, according to a new report.
About one in five working American families can’t afford basic needs, and many scrape to get by on insufficient income and government aid, policy researchers conclude in a report (.pdf file) released today.
Many of these workers earn too much to qualify for “work supports” such as Medicaid and food stamps, while their employer-provided health insurance doesn’t cover enough of their basic medical costs, according to the report by the Center for Economic and Policy Research and the Center for Social Policy at the University of Massachusetts.

BooMan, why must you engage in CLASS WARFARE???
Take a crack it, even though Booman can speak for himself.
If you’re a rich man, you vote for the Republican. If you’re a poor man, you vote for the Democrat. (American politics in a nutshell from a wise if uneducated businessman)
Did you really think that the Republican movers really give a damn about racism, abortion, homosexuality, Evangelicalism, and all of the other nonsense that makes up the face of the Republican party?
errgh….grumpy server today.
Here in Michigan we have been made aware that our Dem Primary will allow us to vote for Clinton or Dodd. The rest pulled out a couple of days ago. I’m so POd about this latest (apparently self inflicted) wound to Michigan Dem supporters, I can’t begin to express it. I’m faced with voting for Dodd, as an anti Clinton protest, or not voting at all. This really puts me to the edge. This at the same time I am awash in pleas for $$$$ from Hillary, the local Dem chapter, the State Dem chapter and the rest. If this is the best democracy that has been created, I fear for our ability to sustain it.
This morning CNN had a segment on the right wing smear campaign against the 12 year old kid that spoke up for SCHIP.
First they downplayed the vicious attacks on a kid. Then they blamed the Democrats for the attacks, for letting him speak up for himself. Not a word about the morality of the people launching the attacks.
