…follow closely here, upholding the Constitution is a partisan left position in American politics now. Utterly disregarding it is the partisan right position. Deciding that utter disregard for it needs to be smoothed over by special legal dispensation, so we don’t have to settle the question distastefully in court, is centrist.
at least we’re on the correct side of the issue.

it can’t realistically get much worse for an admittedly ‘bourgeois democracy’.
we are on the threshold of a major change from a Republic to an Empire, and all these present issues, from torture to the war in Iraq to eavesdropping without a warrant or any court oversight to an oratorical and impotent congress to attempted privitization of most gov’t functions etc etc are all symptoms of that change.
