New cafe…
(btw, keres is counting down the hours till she leaves for NZ…)
50 hours, and about ten errands to go, not including moving the alpacas (and their hay/feed) to our friend’s place, taking Albert to Imogen’s mum’s house, and taking Luna to Puppy Camp (i.e. the kennel). Our next-door-neighbor is looking after the ducks, chickens and veggie garden.
Everything that needs watering is on a timer.
Today’s list:
Bank
Massage
Pick-up Glasses
Finish painting mural
Pick-up plants that I won
Purchase sleep pants for Imogen
Haircut
Purchase Dog Food (four meals worth)
Purchase Crushed Lupins [Alpaca feed]
Rent trailer (to move alpacas in)
Help friends (the ones keeping the Alpacas) catch and halter their new horse that she just got this last Sunday and has decided that everything at this new place is a bit worrisome. I worked her about an hour yesterday and can hopefully build on that tonight. She’s go a nasty gash on her pastern that needs medicating and that isn’t helping the situation. Otherwise, she seems like a really nice young horse.
I’ve got to get my bedroom clocks set or either my internal clock set.
New picture.
(Go to sleep FM!)
Beautiful picture Andi.
Are you off today or have to work?
I was really hoping not to see you for awhile since I saw you were posting really late. Did you get any sleep?
I’m working and then later today I’m flying off to another round of the Beige Conference Room of Death (with a interlude of Go to Dinner with MaryB — yay!).
I got a couple of hours of sleep. I think I took too many naps yesterday. You have to balance these things out you know. 🙂
Lucky Mary and Lucky you!
Glad you got at least some sleep.
I’d feel a lot luckier if I was staying home and Mary was coming here. 🙂
Teleportation, that’s the key.
I think I’ll work on inventing that today. However until I do, I’m afraid you and Mary will have to fly.
Good morning, Andi and FM!
Laptop slow as syrup this morning and refuses to run various cleaners. Looks like I need to download/reinstall.
Have a safe trip, Andi!
Morning ask.
Have you tried just a restart? Sometimes that works for me.
Thanks, ask. Sorry to hear about the computer problems. Hope you get them worked out without too much pain.
Well I’m off to another nap. Have a safe trip Andi.
Everyone have a good day.
But I just got here!
Morning All!
FM, it’s not your internal clock, it’s that I was thinking the cafe needed changed and knew everyone else would be up before I was. (See, I’m always thinking about all of you.) 🙂
Andi, I’m jealous of your dinner with Mary and hope that BCRH time goes by quickly.
Ask, I’m sorry about your computer problems. We had that happen to one of our PC laptops, and it took a complete re-formatting to fix it. I hope yours is more easily remedied.
CBtY is already off to school, but grumpy because he spent Saturday night at a friend’s and they were up until 4 AM, and now he’s behind on his sleep. Why do people let the kids stay up that late?
And I am dying to post pictures of my latest knitting adventure: socks. They are trickier than you would think (think: how do you make a heel?), and therefore more fun to work on.
Yes, I am a little weird. But you knew that.
Pass the coffee?
You must have woken up all bright-eyed and wide-away — you’re so chatty. 😉
And I’m up for you socks pics — post away!
I’m getting used to the time change, I guess.
I need to take a pic and upload, so it’ll take a few, but I will.
All good things are worth waiting for.
Socks, did someone say socks. I need socks. Could you knit a size 34 CG?
My, what big feet you have…
You have heard of bigfoot haven’t you? 😉
Aren’t you supposed to be napping? Did the smell of knitting in the morning keep you up?
Well, I’m about to be out of here — just gotta go comment on CG’s socks. See ya later.
See ya later Andi and have a safe trip.
Please do post the socks. I guess you love a challenge – have you considered doing gloves?
I keep one sock that my mother knitted long ago as a reminder to myself not to fear trying the impossible.
I think everybody’s a little weird.
The socks are a little further down. Click the pics for the enlarged versions.
Now I feel like I should post the Christmas-present sweater I made for someone last year (it’s a problem with knitting, you want to show off every once in a while). think fingerless gloves would be the ultimate challenge.
oops – sorry, guess I got distracted. Very cool socks. I love the color.
Thanks for the vicarious knitting pleasure. That’s what cold weather’s for.
I have to confess that I like football season simply because it gives me an excuse to sit there and knit while the games are on Sunday afternoon. I just wish yarn hadn’t gotten so expensive.
It has … It’s so often cheaper to buy finished products than to make them yourself. Same w/ fabric. Unless you can find a really good deal. But that’s hard to do w/ textiles b/c colours and patterns go in and out of style so quickly.
I try to factor the “entertainment costs” into what I’m willing to spend on yarn for a sweater, but even so, it’s really expensive. I think that might be part of why so many people are ginto knitting socks; they
‘re small, quick, and not a huge financial commitment.
Here’s a picture of the next one I want to do: Alice Starmore’s Little Rivers.
Wow, you can send one down to me in a care package. XX large. Of course with the winters down here, I would probably get to wear it for a week or two a year. 🙂
Here’s something just for you for those extra chilly days…
knit fetish wear
I’m not sure these come in XX large though…
I guess in some cases, one size, ahem, doesn’t fit all. :~0
Nice.
That would like good on a young Richard Dreyfuss.
Richard Dreyfuss already got his…
I was thinking this one would be good in a unisex color for CBtE so I could steal it for myself when he outgrows it a year later. 🙂
I need to learn to knit some overalls. Go to meeting overalls of course. 😉
Nicely purled! 🙂
Not going for the subtle color, eh?
Well, I’ve got to go get a bunch of stuff done before I leave so just KNIT ON without me. Ta.
What can I say, I need bright socks to lighten up the cold winter days here.
Nice socks CG. I do hope you’ll take those knitting things out before you try them on.
Actually, I have tried them on WITH the sticks in, and resisted the temptation to take a picture that way.
Don’t fight the urge, take the picture. 🙂
I wanted to try this pattern too, but since this is the first time I ever knit socks, I figured I’d stick with a “leg down” pattern before trying one that went from the “toe up”.
However, the making the heel part wss actually really easy, so I think the socks in the link are next on my list. After all my guys get Christmas socks, of course. 😉
Toe up is easier than having to kitchener stitch the toe closed on top down socks. I finished my first pair earlier this summer. For reasonably priced yarn, try KnitPicks.com. Their yarn is really nice and doesn’t cause you to break the piggy bank.
I hadn’t really thought about the kitchener stitch part, mostly because I’d rather do that then sew regular seams (Ugh). And thanks for the yarn suggestion.
I’ll definiely give the toe up kind a try.
Sock it to me! Cool!
Kewl … 🙂 They look fantastic.
(I’m a knitter and crocheter too. Currently working on a couple of scarves, urchin hat, too many baby blankets to mention, etc. … lol)
Hmmm, maybe we need to start s Sunday diary series for the winter…
Something to help w/ the procrastination (on my part). 😉
We can just inspire each other to keep going. 😉
I had a knit group a few years ago, and it had the decided benefit of making me have to show progress of some sort every 2 weeks. I cleaned up a UFO or 2 that way…and did this baby sweater x 2 for a friend who was having twins.
Olivia what’s an urchin hat?
Thought you’d still be sleeping … 😉
It’s a floppy beret-style hat, that resembles a sea urchin (hence the name).
Here’s a pattern: Urchin
Thanks Olivia.
I’ve been napping on and off. Usually until someone needs something.
I don’t think I’ve seen too many of those hats down here. Now if you could knit a cowboy hat…… 🙂
That’s really cute, and I love the version in the lumpy yarn.
From Halloween:
I have an early morning and a bunch to do so “Hi” and “Bye”.
Good morning, Andi!
Hope you’re done early and enjoy the rest of the day.
Good morning ask and andi!
Grumpy morning here at Chez Cabin…there’s very little I dislike more than when I have to wake someone up for school 3 times before they get out of bed. That’s wwhy they have alarm clocks.
Good morning, CG!
Ah, grumpy kids. My oldest can easily sleep past noon if given the chance. Little brother was a morning person, but is increasingly inspired by his sister.
The younger one is the sleepyhead here. And then when he finally does get up,, he complains because he hasn’t got any time left to get ready for school. Which in turn drives me insane. 😉
The older one is on autopilot: he usually just gets up, gets ready, and goes without much parental intervention needed.
I went through that with two of the kids….not naming any namesOwenColin. I used to knock myself out trying to wake them up and finally just removed myself from the whole situation and let them be late a few times which results in after school suspensions. That learned ’em.
Morning everyone. :0)
Since I have zero interest in driving people who miss the bus to school, CBtY is going to be forgoing any computer usage today, and use the resulting extra time to get himself prepared for school the night before. ie, find his dirty clothes and wash them instead of complaining about me not knocking myself out to hunt them down…
Morning SN.
You sure learned’ em, yep you sure did. 🙂
Good morning Andi, CG and Ask.
It’s a warm 54F here right now. Makes me think it will be fairly warm today.
Hope everyone is doing fine today.
I would love some warm weather…it was supposed to be 60-ish here today and I had lunchtime tennis plans, but instead it’s cold and rainy.
What are you doing today?
I’m not doing anything. With cleaning and everything else yesterday, I feel lucky just to be awake right now.
We’re supposed to get up into the 80’s today. Good enough reason for me to just hibernate. 🙂
Good morning FM and CG. 80s?!! Wow!
Yep another picture perfect day. I need something like a blizzard to liven things up. 🙂
I don’t know, 80s sounds like good slackin’ weather.
80’s is such a nice day, that I’m sure I’ll be hearing, ” You should be out there working on the yard.” 🙁
Hi everyone! Hope you’re all doing good, sorry I haven’t been around much. Work and other blogging things have kept me away but I try and stop in regularly to recommend and dole out 4s.
Just a reminder that tomorrow’s Welcome Wagon will be our annual Thanksgiving recipe thread. Hope you’ll bring your culinary goodness! paz
It feels like it should be Saturday to me.
Morning, FM!
Yes, why not let it be Saturday today 😉
Just up from a morning nap?
Morning ask.
Yep I was up much earlier this morning, but decided to take a nap, and now I’m up again. I’ll see how long this one lasts.
Sounds like my morning.
First up at 2, then a nap 5-6.30.
Yep as far as sleep was concerned, last night wasn’t a good one for me either.
I’m waiting on coffee now. If I don’t get some soon, I’ll be dozing off at the computer.
Second pot brewed (the first one around 3) – but I’ve changed to decaf on doctor’s orders.
I remember you mentioning you had to go to decaf. I can’t do without my caffeine first thing in the morning. Even with the caffeine, I’m still ready to go back to sleep.
Even with the caffeine, I’m still ready to go back to sleep.
Then why not go for it.
I’m heading out for a walk.
Enjoy your walk ask.
I think I will go back to sleep.
Talk to ya later.
Good morning, guyz. It was not my best night for sleep either. But then I worried about this tooth that’s getting checked tomorrow.
Morning, boran!
Good luck at the dentist’s.
I’m home. And of course, the BCOD was wonderfully offset by my great dinner with MaryB. 🙂
Hi! Glad you had fun with maryb. Oh, and a little jealous. 🙂
One more school day this week, and then everybody is off all next week.
Good morning, Andi and CG!
The kids are off all of next week? Good for them.
BCOD?
Beige conference of death.
Now it seems obvious.
We’re supposed to get heavy rain today, and drop from current 60 to low 40s later today. I think I’ll get under the covers again.
It’s cold and windy here. The sound of the wind in the dry fall leaves is my idea of a lullaby.
We’ve had rain all week…even the days that were supposed to be ‘nice’ were wet.
I’m getting cabin fever, but hopping back under the covers sounds pretty good this morning.
Wow, your kids get the whole week off? I won’t tell Jim; he’ll be insane with jealousy.
Yep, the whole week. CBtE actually has the Monday after off too…CBtY’s school has ‘conferences’ the first 3 days of next week, so the teachers aren’t off but the kids are.
Wow, a whole week. I want to go back to school.
Yay!
And happy end of the first day of vacation to keres.
Good morning, Andi!
A NZ vacation in spring sounds great, let’s hope keres will do a photo diary (or two) of the trip.
Howdy ask.
She’d better — I promised to babysit Thursday Dog Blogging the next two weeks in return for loads of pictures. 🙂
That sounds like a good deal.
Big weekend plans? Mine were canceled, swimmer is too busy even for a quick trip to McGill. curly will be out of town for the weekend – so I’ve got plenty of time on my hands.
We have our usual weekend plans — I’ll go for a walk and Jim will go ice skating.
I would think that you wouldn’t have too much trouble in NYC finding something to do with all that unfettered time.
I’ll have lots of quality time with young asklet.
Off, entire body aching; I’m hoping to get into better shape and signed up for some classes, the first was last night.
LOoks like it’s time for a new cafe…
I am so glad it’s friday.
