The Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Human Rights and The Law held a hearing this morning.
The Senate Committee on the Judiciary has scheduled a hearing before the Subcommittee on Human Rights and the Law on “No Safe Haven: Accountability for Human Rights Violators in the United States” for Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 226 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.
Chairman Durbin will preside.
It wasn’t on C-SPAN and there isn’t any transcipt available, so I don’t know if they discussed what to do with George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzales, John Yoo, George Tenet, David Addington, or any of the other human rights violators that are assuming the United States will provide them with a safe haven.
If you feel like it, you can contact Chairman Durbin and ask him if they got that all worked out.
Well, if that US safe haven doesn’t work out, I heard that one of those guys bought a huge piece of property in South America a few months back, possibly big enough to house any of those other folks in the guest house. I didn’t hear whether the US has an extradition treaty with that country though.
Paraguay. The Bush twins checked it out too.
It is not clear to me if they were talking about Americans who violated human rights or, as I would assume, they are talking about foreigners seeking safe heaven here.
such as Luis Posada Carriles?
Paraguay is an excellent place to purchase cocaine, so Junior and his embarrassing daughters will have plenty of marching powder to occupy them as they cut brush and get drunk.
OTOH, it DOES look like we share an extradition treaty with Paraguay.
It’s unenforceable.
(Because nobody will try. Bad precedent if you start trying politicians for war crimes. Consenting Adult Activities are fair game, however.)
Actually, anywhere in South America is a good place to buy coke. Paraguay happens to be the top high quality pot producer in S.A.
I was going to point out that Paraguay does not seem to be a safe place for human rights violators that seek refuge
.
Ok, love the thought, but what are the odds they discussed Bush, Cheney et. al.? Somewhere below zero I should think. I can almost hear Reid and DiFi intervening as we speak….
