Plenty of room over here… 🙂
now that the leaves are gone — because that means I get to see sunrises and sunsets again. This is Sunday’s sunrise.
We had a sky like that last night, and I got the fll view of it when I went to pick CBtE up after school. I was wishing I’d had my camera.
Heh, I took my camera with me to the dentist yesterday in hopes of getting a good open sky shot but of course the sky did not tricks for me.
Morning CG and Andi.
Just waking up again for the second time this morning. Got to get moving because I don’t have any coffee in the house again.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning all. Have a good day, FM!
Morning Boran.
The day has started out fairly good, if not confusing.
Hope your day goes good.
What’s confusing, FM? I’ll help you….the socks go on first, then the shoes. 😛
Morning SN.
I hardly wear socks, so the only thing I have to worry about is the shoes. Nope I’m confused because I started to go and get coffee this morning and I was told I got it last night. I have no recollection of going and getting coffee last night. None. I have a feeling a nursing home may be coming up here soon.
Ooh, that is disturbing. Look at it this way: going for coffee is so mundane and boring that your brain didn’t even register the event in favor of more exciting things, like talking to us. 🙂
Sure, OK I’ll go along with that. 🙂
Alzheimer’s is strongly linked to genetic factors, so if you don’t have close relatives with it you shouldn’t worry too much.
Nope no close relatives that have it I know off. I’ve already told you about my aunt that’s 100 and her mind is as sharp as ever.
Well I guess just as long as I don’t wake up walking naked downtown or the police are knocking at the door, everything is fine. 😉
I took my camera along to the dentist Wednesday hoping to get a nice sunrise shot but instead got this pretty view of the farm in the valley. Almost made the trip to dentist worth it.
Good morning, Andi!
That’s beautiful. The morning’s first rays of sun on the farm.
I’m always surprised, though, at how BIG the moon seems when I take the picture and how little it turns out to be. I would have sworn it was huge in relation to everything else.
There’s a bit of moon up there too, or is that a UFO? Good morning Andi & ask!
Well you can make it whatever gives you the most pleasure. Klaatu barada nikto. 🙂
Sad to say, I’ve seen no crop circles at all of late:(
Or ever ….
(If you go by that field in the evening, though, you can often see both deer and turkeys.)
Good morning, ID!
I missed the moon the first time around.
Good morning all. Cold and will be getting colder. Snow on Sunday!!!
Start of skiing season?
I’d like to order a plate of crow, please?
We’re under a winter storm watch and there appears to be wet stuff falling from the sky 🙂
Cool!
Well, not the crow-bit, which is voluntary – but the prospect of snow in your area.
Hostage situation in a Clinton office on Rochester, NH.
local coverage.
I’ve been watching msnbc.
Good morning, all!
Weekend is here; a cold, clear day for Saturday here, but messy sleet in tomorrow’s forecast.
No sleet in our forecast for Sunday here but we have thunderstorms and high winds coming. Looks like today is the day for outside activities.
Yes, it looks that way.
The kids are coming over, and we’ll have a lazy day inside tomorrow.
How’s swimmer’s college quest going? Has she narrowed her favorites or already made a choice?
I think she has completed all her applications (she’s been so busy I’ve hardly seen/talked to her lately) – she’ll probably have a violent outburst if I bring up the subject of college. We’ll see…
Yeah, applying for college can be really stressful. I was convinced that whatever decision I made it would be wrong so that took a lot of the pressure off. As it turned out, I was wrong and the choice I made was right.
I’m suddenly glad that my college choices were limited to the 2 schools in-state that offered my program, and that one of them was half the price of the other. Not much of a decision-making process there.
Having attended both schools now, I think the less expensive one was better.
For undergraduate coursework, I firmly believe the best way to decide is on how the “personality” of the school fits yours. The academic considerations are a distant second (and I think most smaller schools do a better job of educating students because they are more focused on teaching over research and reputation).
It’s cod and clear here too, but I’m thinking tomorrow will be bad weather here. Hopefully it will hold off until afternoon so I can go to my Sunday AM yoga class, where the heat is set in the 80s.
I’m having a terrible time adjusting to the cold weather this year. I feel like I’m freezing all the time.
Morning, CG!
I guess you need to knit more sweaters then.
It might be cheaper than turning up the heat, given the price of heating oil this year. It’s more than doubled (actually working on tripling) since I moved here 7 years ago, and it’s up by 25 to 30% from last year alone. It’s hard to work when my fingers are numb…
It’s hard to work when my fingers are numb…
Then the next project should be a pair of those fingerless gloves.
I’m almost finished my hat, so they could get into the rotation. I think I might need to whip together a christmas present or two in the meantime, though.
Morning CG.
I’m having a hard time with the cold weather too. 70 is just too cold. 😉
That’s right, rub it in. You’re just trying to make me cry, aren’t you?
I think I’m suffering from the extended summer rolling right into winter. We really haven’t had much in the way of a chance to get used to it with some chilly days along the way.
Nah I would never do that. I’m just happy winter is here because I know how bad summer will be down here. I’ve come to the conclusion we all need to be rich so we can have summer and winter homes. Makes sense to me.
The stove is cranking out heat nicely here (though the dogs are all trying to hog it).
Are you inviting me over? 🙂
I think the previous owners of my place had a woodstove. The screwed up the damper on the fireplace when they put it in though, so it has only 2 positions now: wide open or totally closed.
Glad they didn’t make too many home improvements while they were here.
We had fireplace inserts for awhile and when they were cranked up it was like an oven in here. Since wood smoke bothers FMom’s asthma now, we don’t use them.
Asthma is my big problem with the woodstove thing too. We had one when I was a kid, and it was awful for my breathing.
My mom has one of those gas-log stoves that uses propane, and it is great for taking the chill out of the air, plus it can keep her whole house pretty warm when the power goes out. I’ve been thinking about possibly doing that, although it’s probably too late to do it this winter.
I think we’re the only ones in the family that don’t have those gas-log fireplaces. All my brothers and sister swear by them. They said it’s a lot cheaper too.
Have you considered installing glass doors in front of your fireplace? The better ones give you very good airflow control and you can still open ’em up if you want to roast some marshmellows;-)
That’s a good idea. Would it cut down on the heat from the fire, though?
Just a little, but the radiant heat still comes through nicely and all that warm room air doesn’t go whooshing up the chimney along with the smoke. Most of the doors I’ve seen have little air control thingies so the flow can be adjusted as you like.
Giddy says there’s make room on the dogs beds for you right between her and Hopeful.
I hope your power doesn’t go out.
Good morning Andi and Ask.
We’re at a brisk 36 at the moment, but we’re supposed to get up to 70 this afternoon. Don’t ya just love winter?
Morning, FM!
You might have to turn on the a/c again…
I think I can take 70 degrees for awhile. Just wish turning on the a/c would get us some snow.
I do love winter — except when the temp get into the single digits. I’m already ready for some snow.
You know me, winter and snow. I ready for it. They’re predicting on Monday we’re supposed to get down to 27. Now if a little precipitation would come in I might get my wish.
Good morning all! Be glad you don’t work in an office where all your co-workers are prone to hot flashes. Sometimes the window is wide open and its downright chilly in there!
Worked in a place like that once. I had a little heater under my desk. Got blessed out a few time for making it warmer.
Hmmm… not a bad idea. I wonder what the rf would do to our server (also under my desk)?
Looks like it’s heavy coat time for you.
Yep, the ski jacket has emerged from the storage closet already and there’s not even snow yet.
When I lived in Germany I used to ski a lot. I almost bought a ski suit. Glad I didn’t. I bought a goose down comforter there, and I’ve never used it since I’ve been back here.
Throw your windows wide open at night and use the down comforter. There’s nothing better than that naked dive through the frosty air to the warmth of the bed. Of course it’s difficult to get up in the morning….
Isn’t that part of the Scandinavian regimen? What about that, ask?
Well, I do have some Scandinavian blood in me, despite my dislike of fish. Let’s ask ask.
I used to swear to that regimen (as did my parents). A glass of water on the night table would often freeze and the floors would be really cold to cross in the morning.
But I’m too chicken for that now…
Nah it’s packed away under so much stuff, it would take forever to find it. Anyway I have a difficult enough time getting up in the morning without it being cold.
I hear ya. That’s why I’m still in bed. It went down to 29 and I’ve got the window cracked.
I brought back a nice selection of wines and some of that aromatic snuff. Very handy for opening up the nasal passages when stuffy. I still have some snuff left. The wine, on the other hand…
Poor baby. Maybe you should institute a telecommuting policy for the office so you can work at home.
Signs of gun season: 5 deer up at the house this morning.
But who would the staff have to bait and tease then?
Having worked at a large number of places and been at even more as a consultant, I can confidently proclaim that there will always be someone. 😉
Jeez, everyone is so talkative this morning and I’m late to the party! We officially ended the driest November since record keeping began and the leaves aren ‘t really dropping this year either. Contrary to CW is was a very colorful fall, too. One theory I’ve heard is that the drought is so longstanding and severe that there is no water available to the trees for photosynthesis to occur, therefore they are holding onto their leaves to provide food in order to push out new growth in February (when spring arrives down here for all of you notherners:)
We’ve still got a lot of leaves on the trees too. Of course I prefer them there than on the lawn.
You forget down here we don’t have spring or fall. Just summer and winter. 😉
We did seem to go right from AC to heat, but it’s been a nice, mild and seasonable fall with cold nights and days in the 50s….which I consider perfect to tell ya the truth.
I don’t think we’ll stay in the 50’s until Jan/Feb. We usually have one good month of cold. Of course if I lived up North like you do, I’m sure it would be colder. 🙂
Morning SN! When I lived in FL, I could never get used to planting the garden in Feb. We didn’t have any leaves to fall, either – just needles.
I lived through 40 northern winters and I don’t miss them at all. I thought I would.
Morning, ID; sounds like a good weekend to bake bread and clean out closets in your neck of the woods. 🙂
I was thinking more along the lines of “good book beside open fireplace”. Mrs. Dem wants to locate the seasonal decorating implements.
Every one of my neighbors seems to have located their seasonal decorating implements the day after Thanksgiving. Now my ‘hood looks like the North Pole.
We’re just across the street from the retail shopping area and all the shops have little white twinkly roof outlines, icicles and the occasional transparent, white twinkly lit animated grazing deer.
There are two houses down the street, right next to each other, who are obviously trying to outdo each other in sheer wattage. One of them has those illuminated deer, which isn’t unusual, but I think they’ve added about a thousand white LED lights to it because it looks like it’s on fire. It cracks us up every time we drive by.
Heh – I’d like to see their faces when the electricity bill arrives in Jan.
I’m betting you’re late because you had your coffee first — you selfish thing. ;P
Nope, I haven’t even gotten out of bed yet. I’ve decided I need a coffee pot here in my room.
I bow to the slackatude you’re displaying this morning. 😉
What can I say? A little bit of Family Man rubbed off on me. 😉
Hah and double Hah! I knew sooner or later my preaching lazy would start to catch on. 🙂
Now for being unlazy. George is letting me know he’s ready to go out.
See ya later.
I’m going to leave you all snuggled up in the covers and go see if I can find some frost flowers to take pictures of. Because of the drought, they’ve been pretty rare this year (so far only 2 days when there were any big enough to take pictures of). It’s probably too late in the season but it’s cold and we had some rain earlier so maybe I’ll get lucky.
See ya.
A preview of days soon to come to our neighborhood.
could anyone be less well positioned to exploit Rudy’s marital-related ethical problems than the Clinton family?
I never thought it mattered that much…at least to me. Bill is/was a philanderer which is between him and his wife. If he had been caught using taxpayer money to buy Monica a new Gap dress, for instance, then it would matter to me.
yeah, but it would hurt my brain if Hillary Clinton tried to run ads about Giuliani using the NYPD to ferry around his mistress.
Do you think that will be the match-up?
Rudy’s implosion has started and soon the entire country will know what we in the NY-area have known for a long time; a self-aggrandizing philanderer with strong fascist tendencies. Hence, I doubt HRC will have to go there – now, if we can avoid her all together, even better.
