My post-Republican debate piece A Disturbance in the Force spent twenty hours on the Daily Kos recommended diary list and was linked around, including prominently in Salon’s Blog Report. And, frankly, I think David Broder ripped me off.

At least he didn’t make any Star Wars references.
His piece would have been better if it would have.
Why are establishment journalists so booorrring?
I don’t think he ripped you off though. I think the fact he wrote about the same thing is instead a testament to how nakedly morally degenerate the core of the Republican party has become, and how much a small drop of humanity can stand out in such a basin of hate and radicalism.
I mean, if he isn’t reading your stuff, and HE noticed, how much more evident could it possibly be?
It’s an hour and a half transcript. Just saying.
It’s hard to tell if Broder reads Dkos. He might, just because he hasn’t got an original thought in his brain (‘this benefits the Republicans’ is old hat), and certainly wouldn’t be above stealing ideas. However, he is so thin-skinned that I don’t think he could handle the searing [utterly true] criticism he gets there.
Either way, you could tell that he truly loves Republicans. No criticisms. Just loving, cuddly suggestions to his manly friends.
Now, Friedman, on the other hand, I think he stole your article. I think Friedman reads lots of blogs, because he fucked up so bigtime and he’s an insecure gasbag. (I have also heard rumors that he went on meds in the mid-late 90’s and it totally changed his writing style… not that there’s anything wrong with that).
i think he ripped you off…i didn’t see that diary earlier thanks for the re-post. It appears Huckabee and McCain still have fond memories of what Gov. Pete Wilson did for the Republican party..
i think you dropped a word in there somewhere. don’t you mean that McCain and Huckabee don’t want to do what Pete Wilson did?
sarcasm…Pete Wilson turned California Democratic and sent the Latino Vote fleeing the republican party
I know, I lived there. But I still don’t get it. The point of both my and Broder’s articles is that Huckabee and McCain are not pandering to nativists.
But Broder has this superficial attraction to Huckabee:
Huckabee, who previously was known only to those of us who cover state government and governors, has been the surprise discovery of the campaign season. His combination of religious principle, good humor, tolerance and clear passion on education and health care complements McCain’s muscular foreign policy and aversion to wasteful domestic spending.
One man’s religious principle is another man’s bigotry.
no, the post was about how they aren’t bigoted… by Republican standards.
I’m sure it’s not the first time Broder has outsourced his column.
I would say that the columns are similar. However, the Booman version made me laugh out loud, while the Broder version just made me grimace.
I just find it interesting that the Broders & Kleins shout to the world that Bloggers are deranged extremists w/o editors yet most now seem to be closet readers who don’t hesitate to borrow freely. And about now I’d be thinking of spraying Lysol on my keyboard with the thought of Broder looking over my shoulder.

The irony is neck deep.
But what do you expect, making shit up is perfectly fine for overpaid pundits – bloggers (progressive ones, anyway), living with reality and providing well-cited diaries are truly the suspect ones…
Perhaps the bright side is that the Broders of this world are indeed reading something besides AEI talking points and on some level allowing the perspectives to sink in. I’m sure it’s a gut wrenching experience to allow intellectual curiosity to sit at the table.
