Use this thread to discuss the Republican outcome in South Carolina (results here). If Huckabee wins it will really throw their race into chaos.
On a side note: has anyone on cable mentioned Ron Paul’s second place finish in Nevada, or it that the thing that must not be uttered?
Yes, MSNBC did mention it, once Keith and Chris Matthews started coverage.
He said (I’m paraphrasing from memory):
“I asked my wife, honey, in your wildest dreams, did you ever imagine me running for president?”
“‘You weren’t in my wildest dreams,’ she told me.”
LOL!
From below…… Obama is now claiming they have won thirteen delegates to Hillary’s 12 in Nevada.
True in theory, but unknown in fact. Those numbers (13 for Obama and 12 for Clinton) are simply guestimates of who the delegates chosen today for the county conventions will pick when they choose their national delegates. The truth is, it could be wildly different. For example, if Obama were to start sweeping several states, by the time of NV’s state convention, more Clinton delegates may switch to Obama. And conversely, if Obama goes on a big losing streak, some of the delegates may change to Clinton. So it’s really not known. All that was chosen today were the county delegates, and Clinton got the bulk of them.
That might not be something he wants to bring up too forcefully. Could remind Democrats of how Al Gore won the popular vote in 2000 but the little chimp took office. It just ain’t very democratic.
Hey-
In 1992 New Hampshire, Bill Clinton declared himself “The Comeback Kid” even though he came in second. Many people believed that he actually won and he got momentum out of it.
I think Obama should declare victory.
No kidding.
So what was it like out there today? Are you writing a diary or just posting your thoughts?
Too lazy/busy to write a diary but I have so many things to say about how the Clinton crooks conducted themselves…
“Close the doors. It’s 11:30!” (doors were to close at noon, but Clinton teams across the state insisted it was 11:30 and actually convinced our caucus chief that they were right until Obama coordinator pitched a fit)…
“Oh, the woman who wants in is for Clinton, let HER in.” Meanwhile, in the confusion, five people outside leave in frustration.
Clinton coordinator in the parking lot asking people who they support and where they live – if it’s Obama, they tell them they’ve come to the wrong location.
I was directed to the wrong room for caucus by a Clinton coordinator because I identified as “uncommitted.” After a while I figured it out and got myself to the right room.
When I got there, the scene was so chaotic that I volunteered to help get new voters registered. The Clinton team thought I was one of them because I was sitting near their table. When I helped black people register, they realized I might not be one of them and stopped socializing with me. When it came time to pick a candidate, I immediately chose Obama (from undecided.) They fussed and hissed and told me he’s a terrorist and that he loves Reagan and hates what Bill Clinton did in the 90’s.
The other voter who identified as undecided in the first round was a LOW information voter. They told her that Obama’s a Muslim and that he wants to make a truce with Osama bin Laden. They also told her that he supports Yucca mountain and has a strong personal financial interest in it. (All totally false.) The Obama people were totally honest and fair and tried to dispute this bullshit when the undecided woman asked us, but she went to the Clinton side because she didn’t believe that Obama’s not really a terrorist.
Just scummy tactics. Vicious.
Read this Kos diary from Las Vegas. We saw the same tactics here in Reno.
Damn. I’m not even surprised any longer, but it is still quite eye-opening the level of rethug tactics that they so quickly and easily adapt.
Thanks so much for sharing your insights here!
BREAKING NEWS: Ron Paul will finish second in Nevada’s GOP caucuses
That’s what they have pretty big in the red box.
He who must not be named. But I thought that was Huckabee’s designation.
McCain 10 delegates
Huckabee 8 delegates
Thompson 3 delegates
Romney 3 delegates
Paul 0% for 15,000 or so votes.
Who on earth are all the people who voted for Thompson?
According to the exit polls (if you can believe them), two-thirds of voters in the primary were over 45 and one-third were over 60.
He’s Southern (Tennessee), he’s a celebrity, he’s their age. He probably is not burdened with being in the mudslinging. Some folks see all that as a plus.
McCain has won SC, will probably take this win all the way to the nomination
Neither Huckabee or Romney are out. The turnout in South Carolina was light, maybe 20% of registered Republican voters.
Thompson is best buds with McCain. He went into Huckabee country and campaigned. Said one bad thing about McCain and then ripped into Huckabee. The VP candidate i guess.
average age be? About 70?
McCain turns 72 on 29 August
Thompson turns 66 on 19 August
Thanks. I wasn’t off by much.
MSNBC has noted Paul’s 2nd place victory only in passing, a couple of times. But his supporters should feel fantastically triumphant.
Btw – I note you say Clinton won NV. But Obama got 13 delegates to her 12. So who really won? š
See my comments above… It’s time for Obama to declare himself “The Comeback Kid.” The Clinton team used such scummy tactics – the lies about union bosses forcing their members to vote Obama and everything else. Just disgusting. Obama WON! And he did it by taking the high road. Let’s not forget that. And let’s help spread the word. He won! He’s the real Comeback Kid.
Where did your comments above go???
They show up in “recent comments” but not in this thread. But I know they were here – I copied and sent them to some friends!
You got me. I see them in my comments history but not here. Were they removed? If so, why?
Now it’s back. Odd.
someone toggled it out. I have no idea who, but it is fixed now.
XOXO

See those numbers? I’m not even going to try to mess with the table. Rudy has come in 4th – 6th in every contest so far.
Dennis Kucinich has been uninvited to 2 debates due to “criteria”, yet, if we just look at numbers, then Giuliani should not have been allowed in the ABC debate and the Fox Debate. He most definitely should not be invited to the MSNBC debate next week.
I’ve written letters. No response yet and I keep blogging on it, but I’m just one person. Who’s gonna help?
