“Clinton coldly and knowingly lied to New Hampshire and Iowa. Her promise was not a vague statement. It was a signed pledge with a clear and unequivocal meaning.
She signed it thinking that keeping the other candidates out of Michigan and Florida was to her advantage, but knowing she would break it if that proved beneficial later on. It did, and she did.
New Hampshire voters, you were played for suckers.”
a reader comments:
If I had known about this when I voted, Barack Obama would have had my support. Hillary Clinton is good at some things, but I truely believed that she had become more honest over time.
I never thought that Hillary would lie to me like her husband did.

poor Claire
that’s kinda plain as day. BTW the Union Leader is NH’s, largest in the state and does carry some weight.
Tweety is making me laugh today. “Just a reminder to our viewers: This doesn’t count.”
Clinton is still going to give a victory speech in Florida, which I suppose is smart politics since the average lay voter probably doesn’t know much about the whole delegate process.
It’s also important because, from Hillary’s perspective if she were to be the nominee then Florida will be very important in the general election. So, by speechifying there she can say that even with the delegates not counting, she cares about Floridians so much that she came to meet and greet anyway.
What will be important is the media narrative on this speech. They could simply point out that this means nothing. OR they could have a narrative that makes her look grasping.
Did that man just say “the most vivacious president”?
That’s the narrative on MSNBC and CNN. They’re making it look pretty desparate and they’re mentioning how she did the same thing with Michigan. Both states now make her look like a liar and a win-at-all-costs sort of person.
Or is the Clinton thing sorta sad and pathetic? I just explained to my husband about the whole situation and he said, “Wait, she agreed to not campaign, did it anyway and is going to make a victory speech?” Yep. Sad, sad, sad.
I think TPM Reader AF has it right. At this point, even with 35% of the precincts reporting, we can declare this one for Rudy. Rudy now has 16% of the vote. And Ron Paul has only 3%. So it’s basically impossible for Ron Paul to come back and keep up his winning streak over Rudy Giuliani.
watching Ron Paul beat Rudy every time has been what has made the republican race the most interesting. Once Rudy drops out we’ll be left with the old guy and the Hair guy. Not nearly as much fun.
Awww the Huckster is on CNN … I should have gone to the party. I could be with him. You could be watching me on teevee (if you knew what I looked like).
Well … you know I have that thing for men with shiny bald heads. Rudy has a bit too much hair still, but he’s getting there. The sweat just adds to the shine.
Nope. Shortly after CNN cut to him, he moved from the challenge posed by “the jihadists” to the challenges posed by other countries competing with us economically … “countries like Asia, India …” Something very close to that.
Don’t you just Mittens’ stump speech… So much talk about how “They” in Washington have failed us all…
“They Haven’t!” the crowd chants with him.
Just who’s he talking about anyway? Bush? Or is it the republicans who have run the congress for most of his two terms?
But he’s going to make things better by naming off a bunch of things “we need” to be better. He doesn’t commit to making any of these ideas happen, of course. He just lists them off. I notice this in Hillary’s stump speeches too.
OK – every single one of the Democratic nominees gives a better speech than these bozos. And we’re leading up to John McCain’s victory speech – such anticipation I feel!
I don’t even have to see who you’re talking about. I know it’s Crist. I got an email today on my LGBT email list, “Hey, who wants to bet when Peterman will come out of the closet?”
I was able to get home for 5 minutes.
Anxiety in the Rudy camp, and a tight race otherwise….
Is it today?
(I’m on vacation.)
What a surprise – CNN projects Hillary wins. 😉
Then totally discounts it as essentially meaningless. That’s a good narrative for Obama.
guess they read The New Hampshire Manchester Union Leader; it rips her as a liar. Go read.
Hillary’s word: It’s worth nothing
poor Claire
that’s kinda plain as day. BTW the Union Leader is NH’s, largest in the state and does carry some weight.
Ha. Ha. MSNBC is reporting on vote count issues in Miami-Dade.
WTF.
it’s a Florida thingy. they’ve not cleaned up their act b/c they own the franchise.
Who-dah-thunk it?!
If they were a restaurant, they would be condemned for persistent violations of standards.
If they were a church, they’d be investigated by the IRS.
Grand Theft America…the Video!
From the CNN exit poll:

Pagans for St. McCain.
Unsure believers for Mittens.
Evangelicals for Huckajesus.
You gotta love that chart.
that is perfect for a bumper sticker 😉

As for Tweety, god that guy is a jackamahole.
“My, what big hands you have”
(sorry if I broke anybody’s margins!)

The CNN coverage tonight seems very … unserious. As a general matter not just about Hillary.
Or is the Clinton thing sorta sad and pathetic? I just explained to my husband about the whole situation and he said, “Wait, she agreed to not campaign, did it anyway and is going to make a victory speech?” Yep. Sad, sad, sad.
see my link upthread to The New Hampshire paper The Manchester Union Leader on the topic,
Hillary’s Word: It means nothing
Floridians go for … interesting… ties. No solid blue or red or even stripes for them.
CNN breaks away while the disorganized woman in green is babbling on.
So does MSNBC. The GOP is so much more interesting.
Clinton pledges to make sure that Florida’s delegates are seated at the convention. Looks like she is declaring war with the Dean-led DNC
Wonder if they have to give Obama equal time.
They gave her two concession speeches on Saturday – first Bill and then her.
I hope he’s got a speech scheduled tonight. I think he’s in Kansas City.
No Obama speech. Apparently his story is that this is a non-event – and he’s sticking to his story.
This is funny via Tapped.
CNN points out that she’s the only one in Florida and Obama and Edwards aren’t there because they stuck with what they promised.
Josh Marshall calls it for Rudy:
Lol!
If this was Rudy vs. Ron campaign, but there are 3 other people who keep beating them both.
watching Ron Paul beat Rudy every time has been what has made the republican race the most interesting. Once Rudy drops out we’ll be left with the old guy and the Hair guy. Not nearly as much fun.
I’ll bet Rudy’s about to drop out officially. Announcement at 9.
TPM is reporting that McCain and Rudy may have cut a deal for an endorsement.
Aha. Then Giuliani can pass along his ticket to CA, too.
You don’t think John remembered to buy one himself?
Well, he is rather on the shady side of the hill.
Giuliani chafed my ass so hard in NYC on 9/11 that I wish he’d vanish into a gaping, firey hole, never to chafe my ass again.
Awww the Huckster is on CNN … I should have gone to the party. I could be with him. You could be watching me on teevee (if you knew what I looked like).
My 78-year-old mother has just made the observation that KO’s a much snappier dresser than Tweety.
I’ll bet you are too, maryb.
you got that right, WW. She is a very snappy dresser and she’s so TALL! 🙂
shhhhhh. Online I can be as short as I want.
Sorry to give you away.:)
Yes, I do dress snappier than Tweety.
Of course you do! You’re conscious.
MSNBC calls it for St. McCain
CNN too.
Well, that was anti-climactic.
We could use the break. Next Tuesday is going to be nerve-wracking enough
Next Tuesday is going to be fun. So much going on. A political junkie could almost overdose.
Rudy has a sweaty head. Ew.
But his head is tanned.
Only serves to showcase the sweat.
Well … you know I have that thing for men with shiny bald heads. Rudy has a bit too much hair still, but he’s getting there. The sweat just adds to the shine.
And likely nearly empty.
His ego is leaking.
lol!
I’ve never listened to a Rudy speech before. Thank god I never have to again.
Dios mio, I hope not.
Romney started speaking before Rudy was done, so they broke away.
CNN is still letting him drone on.
Finally. They go to Mittens.
Who tells us that … Asia is a country?
Did I hear that right?
We’re the best country in the history of the world!!!!!!! (Is that what you’re talking about?)
Nope. Shortly after CNN cut to him, he moved from the challenge posed by “the jihadists” to the challenges posed by other countries competing with us economically … “countries like Asia, India …” Something very close to that.
I caught that too, reed
Thank you, LJ! I’m relieved to know I wasn’t hallucinating!
White crowds just can’t do that chanting thing very well. What the hell were they saying? They haven’t?
Mittens – strengthen families – no Hillarycare; no Teachers unions; kids should get married at age 14.
and milk and cookies for everyone!
Egads what a simpleton. It’s as simple as telling kids to get married before they have kids.
Don’t you just Mittens’ stump speech… So much talk about how “They” in Washington have failed us all…
“They Haven’t!” the crowd chants with him.

Personally, I’m very glad to hear that Mittens has spent his life in the real economy, unlike most of us.
I’ve spent my life in that heady, sheltered economy of a low-income, uninsured family.
I’d vote for you for president! If you win can I be on the Supreme Court?
Tell me I didn’t. I heard him talking but my kids are acting like fools over here.
Nope. Apparently there are currently ongoing negotiations between the McCain and Giuliani campaigns about when Rudy will drop and endorse St. McCain.
Olbermann says Rudy didn’t officially quit in the speech but it sounded like a “goodbye.”
Yes — references to the campaign all in the past tense.
Dang! You beat me by eight seconds!
Well, he did consistently use the past tense in talking about his campaign. Surely that indicates something.
OK – every single one of the Democratic nominees gives a better speech than these bozos. And we’re leading up to John McCain’s victory speech – such anticipation I feel!
What an UGLY tie!
Seriously, that is one ugly tie.
Why is J. Peterman standing behind McCain?
lol! It DOES look like him.
What are they chanting?
I don’t even have to see who you’re talking about. I know it’s Crist. I got an email today on my LGBT email list, “Hey, who wants to bet when Peterman will come out of the closet?”
Mac is Back! Mac is Back!
Mac is back; the gay gentleman to his right seems disturbed.
He is so darn nice.
MSNBC is confirming that 9iu11iani will endorse McCain in California tomorrow.
You l33t3ed his name. I’m rollin’ over here.
9iu11iani h8s Mittens!
9iu11iani sez McCain is 2kewl4u, Mittens!
Does anyone know what McCain is even talking about? And does he? Is he going somewhere with all of this?
‘We have a ways to go, but we’re getting close.’
John McCain is the most boring Presidential candidate I have ever heard.
I just muted my TV so I could listen to my refrigerator hum instead.
lol
I muted mine too, so I could hear my clock collection ticking out of sync.
my phone rang so I missed most of it.
Just pick up the phone again & listen to the dial tone for a while. You’ll get the gist.
He could use some of those Batman graphics..
This is like listening to milk boil.
you are cracking me up today, wench.
I’m inspired by the candidates.
Earlier, the Scar referred to McCain’s slogan as “Less Jobs, More Wars!”
Gee — is he outing himself?
Hillary’s set to spin on MS anon.
I haven’t heard some kind of dirty trick this morning. What happened?
