Jim Slattery was a Democratic U.S. Congressman that represented Kansas from 1983-1995. He was a victim of the Gingrich Revolution who was best known for his work on “environmental protection, health care, telecommunications, and budget cutting efforts.”
Last year, Slattery briefly thought about running for Senate against Pat Roberts before opting against it. But he is rumored to be reconsidering, and it is interesting to see his frame of mind.
Slatts [Slattery] just called. He’s looking. He’s thinking. “It’s not going to take long,” he said of making a decision.
He’d like some clarity on the presidential race before pulling the trigger. “That’s not the sole consideration, but it’s certainly a factor, as you can imagine.”
I can imagine. Barack Obama’s mother was raised in Kansas, and Obama carried the state by a forty-eight percent margin. Who do you think Slattery is hoping will be the Democratic nominee? Who do you think’s nomination will cause him to find something better to do?
Do the Clinton supporters really want to argue coattails?
And I am so pissed at Pat Roberts for his behavior as chairman of the Intelligence Committee that I am very hopeful that he will get a decent opponent.
BTW- Slattery lost his seat to Sam Brownback.
BooMan,
you think Gov. Kathleen Sebelius may get the nod for VP?
She has been very busy stumping in Mississippi and other states
I think she is on the short-short list.
I’m in KS and I tell you this state is on the verge of something incredible if Obama is the nominee.
I’m talking deep purple.
I drive from Wichita to Kansas City weekly. I have yet to see any GOP signs, stickers, etc. McCain is blamed loudly for the tanker deal shakeout
Meanwhile I see Boyda and Obama (and Clinton) stickers all over the place.
I’ve never seen this kind of energy on the Dem side. Even when we were electing Sebellius, even back when the Dockings were running.
This is beyond specific candidates. Slattery getting back in vs Roberts would be huge.
good to know.
yep, things are looking up for Democrats here in KS. I really hope he decides to run. There was a story in the Hutchinson paper after the Democratic caucus. They mentioned that 30 people had caucused in ’04 and something like 300+ showed up this year. It’s an interesting story.

Had to reread the story after the post. It wasn’t 300+, it was 800+ that showed up!

as the head of Kansas Republican Party you would think the Dems could find a good candidate.
After reading the comments in the linked article, I’d say that he probably won’t run. Where can we find a decent Democrat to run for this spot?
