Returning from the gym at Shepherd University this morning, after the workout I do 3-4 times a week, I was bubbling over that my weight has now dropped a total of 34 pounds. 34 Pounds in 3 months… heading decisively to my birthday goal of 40 pounds down by May 24 and my overall goal of 150 pounds down by the time I’m 63 (the new 52).

AS I DROVE DOWN ROUTE 45 I WAS TAKEN ABACK, HOWEVER, BY THE PRICE OF REGULAR GAS AT WHAT HAD BEEN THE CHEAPEST FILLING STATION IN THE AREA: $3.39 A GALLON.

The caps were earned! The radio told me that the price of oil was now $109.00 a barrel (when Bush got into office it was $33.00 a barrel and we were worried that that was too high!)

Remember when we were told in 2003 that Iraqi oil would pay for the war over there (another Bush Administration LIE)? Well, at 109 bucks a barrel why isn’t it paying for anything? Haven’t we all realized by now that this war was not to find WMD, not to sack Saddam Hussein for terrorism, not to fight Al Qaeda, not to bring democracy to Iraqis… but to bring huge profits to the oil companies represented by Halliburton and friends?

I want to hear the Presidential candidates comment on this. I want to hear McCain, whose Lobbyist buddies are being paid by the oil interests and others, tell us what he is going to do to cut the price of oil.

I want to hear Hillary, whose stance that she is ready on day one for foreign policy, tell us what she is going to do about OPEC and all those Arab oil guys that Bush has no trouble holding hands with.

I want to hear Barack tell Exxon-Mobile that it is get the gas prices down or face the kind of corporate income taxes they should have been paying all along… and more!

We won’t hear much about this stuff on the media (except, maybe, Keith Olbermann who they allow to speak out to a limited MSNBC audience)… they’re controlled by major corporations who are making the big bucks over this mess. The complaints have to come from all of us… from the citizens who are now paying 20%-30% more to commute to work and heat our houses than we were only a few months ago.

Remember that there are elections coming up and this is our time to act!
