Words of wisdom from Professor Juan Cole:
I can still remember, as a child, the other children on the playground boasting that the US was the greatest country in the world, and the pride we all took from that. Predictably, George H. W. Bush’s cokehead son has managed to reduce the US to the second largest economy after the eurozone. Bush was second best all his life, and has managed to make America second best.
Can’t improve upon that analysis, so I won’t even try.
Yes, but we’re still the richest most wonderful country in the world because, you see, the euro zone is not a country. Shed a few tears for the glorious, heady days of self-delusion. The events of September 11, 2001 were an ordeal for the US which it failed to withstand with decency. Now let’s see how the ‘people’ are going to react to the long-overdue recognition that they have been betrayed by the policies and actions of their most beloved of all president and his cronies, the supreme wisdom of the most supreme of all courts. Funny, McBush is in Iraq for his first ‘presidential’ inspection of the empire. Soon the headlines will be showing the doughty warrior announcing to the people how they just have to hold firm just a little bit longer to prove that the US is, was and will always be right.
My quote of the day: W saying that fighting in Afghanistan is “romantic.” I don’t know where to start on that one, so I’ll leave it at that.
Yes, he only keeps excelling at obnoxiousness. He has no inkling of how offensive the remark is to the survivors of the dead and maimed soldiers and civilians, to the whole world in fact.
Probably like most of us here we wonder every day how bush can top himself in saying something incredibly ignorant or clueless..when I heard this quote the other day it certainly confirmed my opinion of this monster’s soul…can’t get more obscene than calling war romantic. He continues to live in some gdamn John Wayne patriotic war movie fantasy. He really does need to spend the rest of his life in a cell with 24/7 images of what war really does to men/woman and children along with the sound of screams of anguish from mothers seeing their children blown apart or looking for pieces of them, soldiers torn apart with their insides hanging out and looking into bush’s eyes trying to say…this isn’t romantic georgie. Even more so I’d wish also that he could somehow feel the pain that all these people are feeling for the rest of his days, so I would wish him a long long life in that cell.
Since GW never made it to the heights of 2nd best anything I hope that doesn’t portend to us Bush tumbling lower still.
In 2003 Dave Emory, decried as a “conspiracy theorist” (which meant interpreting events unlike the MSM) did a radio show called “The Engineer Intends To Wreck The Train.” People should go back, find it and listen to it. The gist was that George W. Bush (or at least the people who pulled the strings) intended to wreck the country. Guess what?
Who’s benefited? The richest fraction of the top 1%. The oil companies. The guy who went AWOL back in the sixties and seventies is still at it.
“Every country has the government it deserves”
Ah, Cole — ever the optimist. America today is far from second best in almost any measurement that matters: literacy, lifespan, infant survival, crime, suicide, renewable energy, economic justice, just for starters. And to call Bush second-best is the most extreme flattery.
Most of those who ever voted for him really didn’t know of his royal background. He easily hid it using his country slur and cowboy look. I’m sure he feels his position was rightfully taken. Now we have another history lesson on why the framers of the Constitution really had a mistrust in government. Bush found deceptive ways around checks and balances and knew that the Democratic leadership had given him a blank check when they promised not to impeach. This President did not protect and defend the Constitution but he certainly abused it. We shall pay for not using our wisdom but he will be found swimming in pools of money that he has provided for his friends around the world.
