If we are peaceful,
if we are happy,
we can smile and blossom like a flower,
and everyone in our family, our entire society,
will benefit from our peace.

Passenger forced to remove nipple ring with pliers to get on plane: AP/Yahoo
It’s an ugly story:
What happens when people’s wedding bands are stuck on because of swelling? Does their finger have to be removed before they board the plane?
Could the female TSA agent not see that they were indeed rings, and not a bomb? And why was the belly ring acceptable and not in need of removal?
Or are some TSA agents just sick and perverted and mean a-holes?
Or are some TSA agents just sick and perverted and mean a-holes?
TSA agents are sick and perverted.
Why would ANYONE expect different? It’s not a real job. It is not about travel security. It is not about safety.
It IS about humiliation and harassment. That IS the job.
Time to wake up, people!

The Geert Wilders anti-Islam film is released on the Internet.
Nobody ever accuses the Brussels Journal of being soft on Islamic extremism in Europe. Which is one reason why this thoughtful Thomas Landen essay the BJ published that’s strongly critical of Geert Wilders’ proposed movie trashing the Koran is worth reading and taking seriously. Landen says that he shares Wilders’ opposition to Islam in Europe, but that Wilders, in deliberately setting out to provoke Muslim anger, is going to end up doing the counter-jihad resistance a lot of harm.

Overcoming the myth that All Cultures Are The Same is really hard. I recently sat in on a meeting with a top diplomatic official from an Arab country, who said that his government tried to warn the Bush administration not to push for democratic elections in the reason, because to do so would only empower religious fanatics. “Your government didn’t want to listen to us,” he said. To have listened to friendly Arab governments making those kinds of warnings would have required us to rethink Bush’s ideology of liberal universalism. Result: fanatics took power.

Girls, remember, Mr. Bush and his friends say that the doctor’s right to refuse you complete and accurate healthcare information and referrals is greater than your right to receive it: NPR
And this has been another episode of why no one should have ever co-sponsored a bill called “Religious Freedom in the Workplace” with Rick Santorum.

WESTON, Wis. – Police are investigating an 11-year-old girl’s death from an undiagnosed, treatable form of diabetes after her parents chose to pray for her rather than take her to a doctor.
The girl’s mother, Leilani Neumann, said that she and her family believe in the Bible and that healing comes from God, but that they do not belong to an organized religion or faith, are not fanatics and have nothing against doctors.
“… she believes her daughter’s in a coma now and she’s relying on faith.”

Army suspends Miami company for selling Chinese ammunition
The New York Times has blown the lid on another contracting scheme by which the Defense Department–and specifically the Army–has fallen prey. In this latest corrupt contractor fiasco, the Army gave a contract worth $300 million to a 22-year old gun runner so that he could provide the Afghan military with obsolete, illegal equipment.

Adobe Systems™ has launched a free, web-based photo editor called Photoshop Express:
it’s still in beta, and there will, no doubt, be bugs, but this looks like a great app. for budding photogs and those just curious about PS.
several caveats though: read the review at webware.com before you try it, and keep your photos private…imo…the terms of service agreement is rather draconian.

Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly lead to the harm of some of our staff, Liveleak.com has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers. [Movie by Dutch MP Geert Wilders – Oui] This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people, from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realised LiveLeak.com is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one. Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one anothers culture. We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high.

Oh, please, spare me. I took the liberty of perusing LiveLeak.com, and it seems the place is set up to post bigoted garbage from right-wingers. Given that the only purpose of Wilders’ filth appears to be incitement, which is a far cry from merely expressing an opinion, I seriously doubt free speech ever entered into what passes for the minds of the site administrators. Simply put, they took a lot more criticism than they were comfortable with, and something tells me they’re either exaggerating or lying outright when claiming they were threatened.
