Is anyone else having a problem with Firefox crashing all the time, all of a sudden? Usually I can rescue the session, but I just lost 45 minutes of work.

Same as the old me. The more I think about it, the more pretentious ignorant bystander seems. budr, on the other hand, has been my username of choice on a whole fleet of *nix boxes for more than a decade. It’s “the real me” as much as any name is.
Nothing to see here, carry on.
I haven’t been having any problems with Firefox’s stability, but then I’m on Linux (grin). My main problem happens when there’s a huge number of YouTube videos on a page, but that’s a known Ubuntu problem.
The problem I’ve been having lately is, if I use my text-only browser (it’s a lot faster because it doesn’t load images) to view Big Orange, I get a message that says “It Works!” and that’s it. That’s the message you get when you first install Apache 2 on a server. Just this morning it started happening with my laptop running Linux and Firefox after some components upgraded. I’m still trying to figure out what’s going on.
But Firefox itself? Nope. Have you done a virus scan?
Firefox, Ubuntu, nothing else running, constant crashes.
I think it has to do with the AMD X2 processor, but that’s a pure guess.
You might be able to find out. How savvy are you with Linux? There’s a utility called “strace” you can install if you don’t already have it. It spews out a lot of information, but might give you a clue as to what module/library/whatever it might be crashing in, and then you might be able to reinstall that. For instance some program (xmms I think) was crashing on me once upon a time for no reason I could understand, so I watched strace and found out that it was dying because it couldn’t load a font. I reinstalled that font, problem solved.
Other than that I apparently cannot spell it, I’m moderately familiar with Linxuxux. strace doesn’t show me anything useful. Firefox “detaches” and dies. Sometimes it takes the entire X session and window manager with it. Sometimes it heroically goes alone.
Beats me…
I’m not having any problems with FF. You might want to do a virus scan.
Minor problem with firefox on Yahoo site
Yeah, I did and then I switched to Safari 3, which is much more robust, at least on my Mac. It’s also available for Windows. Firefox 3 is supposed to fix all these problems but it isn’t out in a stable version until June. It’s currently in an advanced state of Beta testing.
Been using FF on Windows and Linux since whenever but it rarely crashes on its own in my experience. Do have slow FF performance on older processors though (circa 2000 and older).
This might be a good place to start to diagnose your problem if it’s recurring: Firefox crashes.
Yeah. Mine freezes (or has the endless spinning circle of waiting) and I have to force quit and restart.
Ditto
Ditto.
also at Huffpost and FDL
this site totally crashed Friday eve…
me too
Us too – on windows AND mac.
I don’t know if it had anything to do with FF…Windows dumped a whole bunch of new updates, along with the new FF update and other updates of various things clogging my system. I shut down, ran the updates and everything is going fine so far.
I’ve also had trouble lately, especially when several tabs are open – some heavy with graphics or video. Freezes up for minutes, can’t even reboot without unplugging and removing battery.
Did you guys see Matt Taibbi’s article in the latest Rolling Stone Magazine?
The Queen of Pork
It seems to me that it started with the recent updates (as I recall there have been two in quick succession). In fact, everything froze when I tried to log on here to make this comment, and I had to resort to IE (bleggh).
Head over and sign:
Enough is enough
