I’m back in the States and it’s nearly 100 degrees out. Not only that, but one of the kids missed a package of ground turkey when they were unpacking the groceries from the car last week, and it baked in the sun the whole time we were in Europe. I’m surprised the Homicide Division didn’t open the car to see who we had buried in the trunk. What a way to come home from a nine hour flight!
Looking around the tubes a bit it looks like we’ve moved into general election mode. Everything is about McCain this, McCain that, ITMFA, and more McCain. Does anyone else find John McCain to be one of the most boring politicians to write about of all time? Watching him or reading about him just makes me sleepy. Thinking about McCain gives me a sense of how impossibly boring most people find politics to be. It doesn’t help that he is pushing arguments that we won over two years ago as if the public hadn’t already made up their mind about them. I have a feeling that I will be writing more about down ticket races.
Did you miss me?
Ditto!
Oh hell yeah!
Good to have you back. Sorry your trip couldn’t have been longer.
Welcome back, BooMan! Of course we missed you.
Well McCain certainly didn’t do much yesterday to endear himself to Joe Six Pack.
McCain: ‘I will veto every single beer’
The guy is a source of unending Youtube fodder every time he opens his mouth.
won’t make him popular with the wife, either.
Maybe he wants to be the — President of Beers!
He’s got beer on his mind at least subconsciously.
This is going to be a fun campaign.
bushbud lite maybe…Yes we missed you! Welcome back.
Glad you are back Booman and I missed you too, just didn’t seem the same without your name here and there.
So how was your trip, are you going to write more about it.
Oh and you missed the best speech by HRC on Sat., I’m sure you want to catch up on that if you haven’t already.
and are thrilled you are back home!!!! Hope the vacation was as wonderful as the pictures!!! Now back to work. LOL
you left?
😉
LOL We really do have to meet at Netroots Nation and have a couple of over sized marqaritas or maybe Sanqaritas.
awwww Boo. I missed you. For the, what, one whole day you didn’t post? 🙂
welcome back.
Not the only one who nods off thinking about Johnny Mac — take a look at his fervent supporters: http://www.iamtrex.com/?p=1066.
welcome back! too short a trip l’m sure.
sorry to hear about the car…smelled like Bushit™, eh.
Simply, yes.
And while I’m sad for your sake that it was such a short trip, I’m happy for ours. I miss your posts!
Miss you? I didn’t even know you.
Wait.. That’s not right. I messed that up.
(Where the heck were you, anyway?) Hope things are well. – Joh
But hey…you deserved at least another week away.
Yup, missed you lots but have to say it was pretty impressive to read all the great stuff coming from other folks who aimed at filling the gap. Snowing here and even the rattlesnakes are slow to uncoil today. Is there somewhere where it’s not unbearable hot or strangely cold in these United States??
Well, they are having floods and tornadoes in the Midwest, so that’s a little bit of meteorological variety, just not the kind I’d want.
And check out the video of a giant waterspout off the coast of Hollywood — Florida, that is.
Ah yes, the waterspout. When I was 6, floating on a 32′ sailboat 300 miles offshore I remember pointing out at the 3 waterspouts surrounding us and saying, say mom, ya think we could go a little closer to shore?
I think someone ought to call up Hagee and tell him to call off his attack dogs.
.
Italy’s worst defeat in 40 years!
Welcome back BooMan … did anyone take care of the chores at home?
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
Wow…that was impressive! Of course, I’m biased. 🙂
And yes, even I can’t write or pay attention to politics because John McCain boring the living shit out of me.
A tad.
you could have left the keys to the wine cellar.
anyhoo, Welcome back.
Welcome back. I’m curious, did the ground turkey packaging contain the majority of the liquification? If not, the Plutonian ether may hang around for a bit.
Actually, most of it was contained, some of it oozed onto a windshield sunshade (Removed and discarded with the goo), and probably a small quatity hit the carpeting in the back area (removed from the car, disinfected and hosed down, and now airing out for an extended period).
If you have any suggestions for getting that corpse-like odor to go away, we’re happy to hear them. Someone told me they had success with dissipating skunk odor from a closed space with a bowl of vinegar left to sit, so there’s currently a bowl of vinegar sitting in the open car. Not sure if it’s working or not, but the smell has improved considerably.
Of course, my son watches Mythbusters religiously, and saw the episode where they investigated whether they could get a similar smell out of a car to the point where they could sell it…
…Let’s just say that it’s probably a good thing that the car is 10 years old with 180,000 miles on it, and not brand-new.
Baking Soda.
Done.
My mom used charcoal once when a freezer stopped working while we were on vacation. It must have worked because we kept the freezer.
That was an inspired idea…I just ordered an activated charcoal “sponge” to put in the car to adsorb the rest of the odor, and I actually think that might do the trick. After all, that’s what they use to mop toxins up out of people…
Thanks!!!
I think in that episode of Mythbusters they baked a pig in a car for a few weeks. Your challenge is hopefully less.
I think you may need to wipe down everything. I suggest a mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Fbreeze supposedly works well too, but I haven’t tried it.
Interesting when Boo was little we were preparing to go on a long car trip to Michigan. I came out to load the car and found that a package of hamburger had slipped under the front seat a few days earlier. Not quite as bad as your problem but it made for a longer trip across Rt 80.
Good luck
any time one of our dogs was sprayed by a skunk, we would give them a bath in tomato juice.
We did tomato juice for my dog when she got skunked too.
I just don’t think it’s going to work for the car, though. 😉
I just remembered something else to try. Borax is really good. There are directions on the box for removing odors.
Once you are sure you’ve scrubbed down well the source of the smell, make up a spray bottle of water and about 1 tsp vanilla and spray the interior.
I have borax here, so I’ll probably try that after I vacuum up the baking soda I sprinkled on the upholstery to try to gt rid of the absorbed odor. And the vanilla spray sounds like it would be good even if the car didn’t smell like garbage…
At least it’s dramatically better than it was yesterday, in spite of the car being closed up overnight due to the rain. The ride home from the airport was, um, mind-altering or something. We couldn’t believe there weren’t buzzards sitting on the roof rack waiting to get inside.
