Fairness Doctrine Nonsense

Conservatives keep telling their base that the scary liberals are going to take right-wing talk radio away. There’s not much evidence for that. In fact, it seems odd that Janet Albrechtsen even included this factoid in her column:

This is not the first time Democrats have tried to revive the dopey Fairness Doctrine. They tried last year. Fortunately, Congress , by a majority of 309, rejected the distinctly Orwellian doctrine. It is, as The Washington Times wrote last Tuesday, nothing more than censorship.

Personally, I like free-wheeling debate even though I think the right-wing used the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine to turn our national discourse into a sewer. But 309 members of Congress voted against restoring the Fairness Doctrine last year. I don’t see that number changing by more than a half dozen or so after November.

But I will say this. If the Democrats wanted to act like Republicans, they’d make their political outlets illegal. You know, kind of like payback for photo ID laws and barring felons from voting.
