I know politics has been depressing for oh say the last 8 years or longer, well anyway I think getting out in to the garden might help. Please join me and post some garden or flower pictures of your own.
Plumeria in bloom, reminds me of Hawaii, I pic the blossoms and float in water at my desk. Oh the aroma, wish you could smell them.
Plumeria getting ready to bloom, can’t wait.
A view of our nice little tomato garden area, busting with tomatos but only a few ripe so far, looking forward to a big harvest.
A beatiful large sego palm that just plumed out, the leave are so tender at first then they harden to pointy little devils.
My little rock garden.
I could post lots more pics, but I would love to see some from you all.
And BTW, hi everyone, I’ve been lurking mostly so I’ve been keeping up.
Here’s a pic of part of my garden surround, a cozy little corner that was supposed to be for me to sit, but then it’s perfect for a plant and that won, now there are 6 pots on that chair..
Just lovely. what a delight!
avid gardeners are controlled by their plants…they win every time.
In my circle of avid gardeners we are greedy. We. never. have. enough. plants.
this year I concentrated on extending my vegetable garden – no pics. My perennials and water garden beds extend over 275 feet – now mature. A place for therapy.
Thanks and you are right there are never enough plants for me and my kids can’t understand why I always want more. I want to have to squeeze to fit them in, and I’m pretty much at that point, but I always think I can fit a few more in. Trying to go up as much as possible.

Most of my plants have to be in containers so that does make it a bit more challenging, that and my limited space, but I do have nearly 200 containers right now..
this minature hibiscus is perplexing me at the moment, it needs to go to bigger pot but that will be a 5 gal. and I can’t find anyplace to fit that in, considering that the plant will get even bigger, it’s now about 3ft. wide.
I really want to have a large veg. garden, but the only space that’s appropriate is where the tomato garden is and that will be planted with vegs. after the tomatos are done.
that’s incredible – 200 containers…and at some point there’s the need to re-pot the root bound.
What’s your zone/state?
I’m VT, zone 2/3. With some plants, I can push the envelope to zone 4 micro climate and winter protection.
Vegetable growing season range between 130 – 150 days. It has been a cool
summer. In fact one long spring and waiting for sustained temperatures in mid 70s.Zone 7-8, southern ca. most things will grow year round here.
Yes I am constantly repotting plants and I grow lots of plants from seeds and cutting of plants I have and I do a lot of gathering seeds/cuttings wherever I happen to be. Some of them grow, some don’t, but it’s fun to try anyway.
In a past marriage incarnation my ex and I had a huge veg/fruit garden that we pretty much lived off, incl. chickens we had at the time. That was great fun, did lots of canning, drying and preserving. wish I still had that garden.
Zone 7-8 … filled with envy I’m. I grew up in a Zone 10. Don’t ask why I’m in zone 2/3 life happens.

We’re kindred souls –
Be well.
What a lovely spot! I must confess, I’m not only a political junkie, but a flower addict as well.
The peonies & iris are gone for the summer,
but the foxglove is still around.
How I love peonies, grandmother had great beauties, hard to grow in socal. Peonies are among my first flower memories.
What pretty pinks and purples you have.
Thanks! I “rescued” the iris from a neglected garden at an old cottage we bought and rehabbed several years ago. There are also some very delicate, orchidlike iris that are just beginning to thrive again. I hope to get some photos next spring. In the meantime, there are the annuals to enjoy!
around here, neglected abandoned gardens are considered “Joe’s Nursery” – free for the pickings.
Beautiful Diane, thanks. My most recent garden delights were peaches fresh off the tree, and blueberries from my bushes. Also gifts of fresh squash and tomatoes have been welcome.
Summertime and the living is easy.
Your garden is always a pleasure to visit.
Here is a slideshow from my site (Village blue) of a walkabout with methat you might enjoy. I tried to post the slideshow here but can’t get it to work on this site.
How great that you get fresh blueberries and peaches, and gifts of vegs. When I had my big garden we used to give away baskets of food every day to our neighbors. Now I don’t even know anyone with a garden.
Thanks – what a treat. I haven’t bothered to learn photo posting yet. You might have to start giving away spider plants. I understand they’re great for cleaning indoor air.
Those squash I’m getting are so huge, we have to call them “weapons-grade.” It’s amazing what you can achieve with an occassional dose of horse manure. My wise Irish Grandma taught me that wood ashes are good for peaches, and she was right!
I just had a thought that it would be so cool if all of us here did live around the same pond and we could share the largess of our gardens and our lives with each other.
Oh yes the spider plants, I grow them from the babies that pop out and they grow like crazy with little care. they have always been my filler plant that I can easily grow and put in any empty spot, then when they get too big, I take them out of pots and put in my one little strip of dirt (behind my place) I can plant directly in. this area can only have a hearty plant as my dog seems to delight in rolling about my newly planted area and destroys it.
I hope you learn to post pics, it’s easy, just upload to photo bucket and then you can post. I have to change the code, but others here can tell you easiest way to do it.
my garden is concealed in the swamp, (they can’t confiscate a swamp)
it does have a wonderful smell, (especially when burning slowly ; )
no bright flowers, (unless your smok’n it, then all kind of colors appear ; )
very relaxing, (careful not to sleep near the gators)
nutrional value? it will make you eat anything in your reach ; )
once the buds start to form, cut off the nitrogen, and add 40% phosphate, really makes those buds explode, (along with your lungs ; )
and what a great experience to add to your next brownie mix, (not recomended for police benefit gaterhings, especially when they get back to earth ; )
needless to say, I will NOT be posting pics ; )
sowwy diane, just could’nt resist the temptation to have some fun.
peace = everyone, at the same time, participating in my garden…….
Well Ip, I daresay a few of us pond dwellers might be heading your way, myself may be included, who knows, to check out your “wonderful” sounding swamp garden. (whiff) oh the smell is reaching me here. lol.
How’ve you been Mr. IP, seems like you’ve been posting quite a bit lately, are you on vacation.
I’ve been doing good diane, and yes, sorta on break.
I’m selling my business, and figuring out where I’ll land next.
Have the option of SW Oregon on the table, or possibly Texas, not sure yet, but definately leaving Florida,
It has become a land of the filthy rich/privileged, dirty cops, crooked laws, and slave labor. Just what the NeoCons wanted, and they got it.
this is not the Florida I grew up in, not even close.
the only place left that you can have some peace and quiet is in the swamp, and they’re taking that away at an alarming rate.
I’ll have a better idea by the end of this coming week.
till then, keep smil’n ; )
peace be with you always
Oh no, Infidel. I’m on my way back to Florida and was just thinking about dropping in on you and your lovely garden.
My heart is breaking, though I know how you feel. I was so glad to get away from there. But alas – everything changes. Now I have lots of peace, but it feels more like isolation.
I see now there’s a kind of virtue to staying put. I’ll be checking on you soon.
anytime Alice,
I’ll be here till at least the middle-to end of August at least.
It will take that long, or more to clear business matters up, and get the move arranged.
You know how attorney’s are, they like to take their sweet time, so they can charge more ; )
where did you go to anyway? isolation is not a bad thing.
take care, keep in touch
peace
I’m deep in the Georgia woods without a car. Tired of being all alone and dependent on the kindness of strangers.
At least the crowded city provides public transportation. It will take me another month to decompress.
That part of OR is beautiful. I hope it works out for you.
thanks, and I hope your situation improves as well.
I know how that part of the country can be….
peace be with you
WEll you know California is still out here and it’s still a bearable place to live, in a lot of respects, even tho I know you have that terrible aversion to anything beginning with Ca. Weatherwise we are probably the best place on earth to live, that is the socal area.
Best of luck in whatever you choose and keep us updated, please.
In any case it’s so good to see your name around.
well diane, the Oregon offer is just barely above the CA line…LOL
but I’ve checked the area out and it looks fantastic. Rogue River area.
I have an old friend, a bridge engineer that I have worked with over the years, and he wants me to come and join his team there, we’ll see what the offer is when the company sends me the final offer letter this week.
relocation is expensive, but they are supposed to cover all, time will tell.
thanks for the reply, and good to see your garden is still being well tended….KUDO’S
peace
Hi diane. Here’s my contribution, my strawberries from just a few weeks ago. Yep, we can grow ’em in pots here in NY. 😉
Good for you. I gave up with strawberries as critters such as squirrels always got them before me.
here goes…
my favorite roses:
Wow, what lovely flowers and roses, esp.(love the Brass) and I do love your lavender. I have had a devil of a time growing lavender, I think I overwater, but whatever I do, they soon depart this location. I am growing some from seed right now and after 2 months they are 3 inches hi. Seems we have a bit of a problem here, eh.
What zone are you in, I’m guessing from the lavender you might be in warmer zone.
Thanks!
I’ve never tried lavender from seeds, always buy from nursery. Once established they don’t need much water. Of course it takes a while to go from 4″ pot to those full grown plants, that one is maybe 5 years.
I’m near San Francisco bay in zone 9.
you’re in zone 7 in socal? how high up are you to get below 10F?

Oops, I said my zone without looking it up and I am zone 10 or 11. Don’t know why 7 stuck in my head. And I even wrote a gardening book, lol, well you know the age thing.
that’s some show esquimaux. Kudos.
I can give you a hand with the tomatoes plants. They are heavy feeders. A good helping of compost or chicken manure at transplanting will fatten those spindlies.
Depending on your zone and progress of plants – blossoms – if you grow organic – you now need to feed with manure tea and epsom salts.
thanks a lot!
I did dig in some compost at planting, maybe not enough. One friend always says that the local clay will eat up all the organic stuff you can put in, and still want more.
Some people advise compost tea, close enough? I have lots of compost but not manure.
Epsom salts is sulfate, right?
