My mother, the lifelong Republican who converted to vote for Hillary, surprised me by saying she hopes for his VP McCain picks Cheney, because that way no one would vote for him.
I was afraid she’d vote against Obama out of spite for beating “her gal.”
I would knock on every door in Arizona to have Congressman Grijalva go for it. My guess is, though, that Gov. Janet Napolitano will make her way up after this final term.
it is scary out there, that was my initial comment in that thread before the thread devolved.
I am very upset that I won’t be there next week. Without a credential, I didn’t think it would be worth it. Now I am getting a bunch of invites to work panels, events, etc. and kicking myself. It’s all good, though. I’ll probably be able to see better through the teevee 🙂 plus, I made plans to go to Boston for a few days of vacation through Labor Day weekend after Denver fell through. I need a break.
Be careful. I’m sure the police presence will be very much like the drive I took the other night through a desert highway that included nine border patrol SUVs, three highway patrol cars and two sheriff deputy patrollers in the span of 20 miles. It was not pleasant, and I doubt the various agencies will be showing any restraint near the Pepsi Center and Invesco.
you wouldn’t be able to get anywhere near the venues without credentials…your papers please…has become the operative phrase.
l was planning on doing a photo essay on the homeless who’re being rather ill treated, but l think l’m gonna pass…l was down there tuesday night doing some recon and prelim work, and got harassed multiple times by the gestapo.
I want more pictures of a smiling McVain next to GW and Cheney; next to Condi, Rumsfield, Rove, Abramoff (of course he never met the guy) and Powell. Sprinkle in pictures of McVain in a flak jacket in “safe” Baghdad, melting Ice caps, gasoline prices, homes for sale, factories that are closed, Valeri Plame, CEO’s of Corps. like Mobil oil, graphs of the price of gold, the Dow Jones average, inflation figures, the dollar vs. the euro, unemployment figures and pictures of Bin Laden. Then label him Mcdone! It is way past time to get serious about this campaign.
I would tend to agree that tying McCain to Bush, the economy and thereby the general malaise that is gripping the country right now is probably the better bet for Obama. Flogging the house issue might be the type of thing that gets the blogosphere all pumped up, but I would tend to agree with this comment by Turkana at The Left Coaster that it won’t do much to change the larger picture in most of the country.
I would love to think that all the blogosphere buzz over John McCain’s not knowing how many homes he owns will matter. I would love to agree with those who think this will derail McCain’s candidacy. I would love to think that McCain’s being terrible on the issues and wrong on the facts- not to mention his being a liar and a hypocrite- will eventually sink in with most voters, and end this thing before it really begins. And maybe some combination of all that will. But I’m guessing that McCain’s being married to a wealthy heiress, and his not knowing how many homes they own, won’t make a difference to more than a smattering of voters. The voters have already proved their willingness to elect a brain dead spoiled brat dry drunk perpetual adolescent who was the single most unimpressive and unaccomplished candidate ever to win a major party nomination. Something very well might defeat McCain- and I’m guessing it most likely mostly will be the general mood of the electorate- but being rich and out of touch has never stopped anyone from winning the presidency.
I left that place months ago when it became hostile to any non-Hillary supporter. I checked back recently and they, including Turkana, are still flogging Hillary for veep. Doesn’t mean his comment isn’t correct, but I think his writing still reflects a less than enthusiastic support for our nominee.
LC used to be regular stop on my rounds earlier this year, but I only occasionally check it out now. They went all “Taylor Marsh” in the primaries and to me it just got ridiculously out of hand.
But this comment by Turkana just kind of struck me because of what seems to me to be an almost volcanic reaction among the blogosphere to something that I don’t think is going to really stick with the general public for more than a news cycle. It just isn’t the kind of narrative that the corporate media is willing to stick on McCain. As true as it is, people will truly not care.
“What, a Republican politician who has a lot of money? Well I’ll be damned! I sure ain’t votin’ for him”
It works against Dems because the media will frame it as hypocrisy. I don’t think it will work against McCain. He is, after all, a Republican.
And having so much money that you can’t keep track of it?……..Well, IOKIYAAR.
Very true. And it could be part of a cumulative effect which might just now be getting under way. There is a sense of a change in the tone of Obama’s overall ad and response strategy. More aggressive. More direct. Will be interesting to see how things evolve in the next 7-10 days.
That little tool, Mark Halperin, is saying McCain has chosen Multiple-Choice Mitt for veepee.
An early xmas gift?

he makes Giada de Laurentiis the new food czar.
The question actually depresses me….because I’ll be stuck with him regardless of the outcome in November.
tru dat manny. but l don’t look for him to run for re-election. he’s well past his use by date.
you have a good progressive candidate in the weeds down there that could grab the seat?
I would knock on every door in Arizona to have Congressman Grijalva go for it. My guess is, though, that Gov. Janet Napolitano will make her way up after this final term.
heh….grijalva would be a breath of fresh air, but you could do a lot worse than JN.
true. much worse.
KV’s kinda guy…saw that exchange earlier…..boo made the right call.
it never ceases to amaze me the seemingly bottomless pit of man’s inhumanity to his fellow man…it’s scary out there.
btw, are you coming to denver for the dnc?
if you are, be very careful my friend. l was down there the other night, and it’s getting really intense.

frankly manny, l’m too old for this kinda shit.
it’s you guy’s turn…make me proud…:{)
Shouldn’t it be McMore of McSame?
mcstain’s campaign is beginning to look like a Bigfoot costume filled with road kill.
think about it for a moment…eh.
If Hillary gets on the ticket, what happens to her campaign debt?

Sad, but also very true.

It’s useful as a comeback, or as inoculation, if you will.
