A rather unflattering account of John McCain’s campaign appeared in today’s St. Petersburg Times. It was penned by McCain’s cousin. You should also read and then email around today’s press release from the Obama campaign. They detail in excruciating detail the plethora of LIES being told by the McCain/Palin campaign. It’s truly breathtaking.
In other news, Sarah Palin had a little send-off in Alaska and is headed to campaign all by her lonesome. First stop, Carson City, Nevada. They’re already lining up to see her. Here’s some Republican humor:
One fan is carrying a big fake rifle with a sign saying “Sarah killed my apathy.”
Ha ha. Very witty. Meanwhile, Obama has cancelled/postponed a scheduled cameo appearance on tonight’s Saturday Night Live out of deference to the people suffering down in Texas. A class move if you ask me. Joe Biden is heading for St. Clair Shores in Macomb County, Michigan on Monday. Looking at the campaigning schedule lately, it looks like Biden and Obama have been looking to lock down their Kerry states in the wake of a McCain boomlet in the polls. I hope it works, and then I hope they resume a more offensive-oriented schedule.
What’s on your mind?
How come McCain isn’t rushing down to visit Texas out of concern for those people hit by the hurricane? I mean, a couple weeks ago he was so very worried about New Orleans because of Gustav. I wonder if timing has anything to do with it?
Who knows? I’m just going to laugh as his VP outdraws him at every campaign stop.
Have you seen this chart from TIME on voter registration, Boo?
Another little bit to relieve some people’s anxiety.
if this is the case why are the polls showing Obama behind?
people polled?
Erm, I’m not sure. Do pollsters use lists that they acquire, or do they just randomly dial phone numbers?
Randomly dialing phone numbers is one technique, but it does not guarantee a balanced sample, therefore it is not the best technique. A valid sample in this case should contain percentages of each group – registered Republican, Democrat, independent, etc. – that is proportional to the percentages in the population, and the ramdomization is within each represented group.
How’s this supposed to relieve anxiety? Democratic registration is below 50% in most states, and feeling good about this requires us to assume that the high youth registration means that everyone who is considered a “youth” will vote for Obama – not really a safe assumption. There are plenty of people under 35 who are either major idiots, Christian extremist fanatics, or both.
Because a good chunk of the remainder in each state will be Indies. Young people, who make up huge percentages of new registrations, are (I’ll bet you) highly likely to register as Indies rather than Republicans.
Latest polls show McCain 47%, Obama 47%. I see the “undecided” 6% as those who know McCain is really McSame, but are having trouble voting for a black man. They are between Scylla and Charybdis.
That is one possible interpretation, but not the only one that is likely.
The McCain camp does not care:
In reaction to AP followed by NYT’s page 1 piece, on and on — calling out McCain;
MSNBC First Read – Wheels come off Straight Talk Express has this:
In other words, we’ll lie to win, if need be.
The list of McCain’s lies reminds me of two neighbors squabbling over the back fence. Though neighbors (ie., swing voters) are probably curious, at some point it becomes an annoying general background noise to them.
The memo asks the press to “set the record straight.” Eh, is that really going to make a difference, or stem the tide of lies?
Instead, I hope the Obama campaign escalates the squabble from “He’s lying” to “His lies to American voters makes McCain unfit to be president.”
The Obama campaign is just one step short of making that statement. If they’re gonna do it, I expect some fireworks about the time of the debate…perhaps as a psychological lever that will get under McCain’s skin beforehand and cause him to show some ire.
