This from the ALL SPIN ZONE (Commentary By: Richard Blair):
This is just breaking:
John McCain is suspending his campaign, and is asking for a postponement of Friday’s presidential debate so he can return to Washington to ostensibly deal with the financial system crisis.
This is either a) a gambit, b) a stunt, or c) things are really, really friggin’ bad – as in, “postponing elections” bad.
The only thing I’m not sure about is why this is happening.
My thoughts?
Barney Frank thinks this is a stunt… says it is just McCain setting himself up to take credit for something being done without him… a cure for his bad poll numbers.
The Obama campaign’s Bill Burton said in a statement:
At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal. At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama’s call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement. The two campaigns are currently working together on the details
…and two minutes later, McCain came out with his statement… not a joint statement as agreed, but a campaign gimmick.
In reality, it was Obama and not McCain that called for a joint position on the bailout. Ooooo, that McCain!
Let’s have the debate on Friday.
