     Too late

     Six decades of single-party rule in Paraguay came to an end on Sunday after Colorado Party candidate Blanca Ovelar conceded a loss to former Catholic bishop Fernando Lugo, who claimed the historic win on his promise to help the poor.

     With more than half of the 14,000 precincts reporting, Lugo, backed by the Patriotic Alliance for Change, claimed 41 percent of the votes, according to the preliminary results reported by the government’s election department.

         Yeah, I was disappointed by Pope John Paul II’s lack of enthusiasm for left-wing theology.  He convinced St. Ronnie that they were all commies.

           like with politics, the people at the top are not in sync with those in the pews.  Liberation Theology lives on, even approved by many Latin American prelates, despite the attempts to stamp it out by Rome.  I think we are seeing it manifested in the rise of politicians that speak directly to indigenous populations of the region.

   New voter registration numbers for St. Louis County MO are out and, since the August primary, 60,000 new voters were registered.  That’s 60,000 new registrations in 2 1/2 months.

   Remember, this does not count St. Louis City (which is its own county).  

   And I haven’t seen the numbers for the KC area (or the rest of the state).  

   I voted this morning.  It felt good.

     So, do you get the feeling that the pollsters have factored these registration spikes into their analysis?

       I don’t know enough about polling to have an informed opinion but my feeling is no.

       I linked you yesterday to an analysis of the poll that came out yesterday showing McCain one point ahead.  Their polling sample was 25% voters under age 45.  In 2004 exit polls showed Missouri with 49% of voters under the age of 45.  

       Then take this into consideration:

       The commission could not immediately provide a breakdown of new registrations by precinct, but Goeke told commissioners Tuesday that the biggest increase came in the Washington University area. There more than 1,700 people are registered, compared to 950 in August.

           well Mary and I live in Missouri, I think Rolla is in Missoura–I thinks Missouri will vote for Obama, while Missoura will vote for McCain

   MSNBC just ran what we can only call an extraordinary interview with NBC News’ Chuck Todd and Brian Williams. They were discussing the interview NBC just did with John McCain and Sarah Palin. We’ll have the video shortly. But what really stood out was the candidness of Todd’s discussion of the wheels possibly coming off McCain’s campaign, his willingness to discuss the tension between the two candidates and even to speculate that McCain may be starting to blame Palin for his campaign’s collapse.

   Just imagine if McCain pulls out a win..all will be forgiven.

   In the months after his resignation, Rumsfeld toured the New York publishing houses in preparation for a potential memoir.[86] Such a book would reportedly be used by Rumsfeld to justify the military strategy used in Iraq under his watch. An agreement on a book deal has not been announced.

   In May 2007, Time magazine reported that Rumsfeld was in the early stages of establishing an educational foundation that would provide fellowships to talented individuals from the private sector who wanted to serve for some time in government. Rumsfeld would finance the foundation.[87]

   In September 2007, Rumsfeld received a one-year appointment as a fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University,[88] joining (among others) retired Army Gen. John P. Abizaid, former commander of US forces in Iraq, and fellow conservatives George Shultz and Newt Gingrich. He will participate in the institution’s new task force studying post-September 11 ideology and non-state terror.

   No mention on whether he still impales kittens on his member and BBQ’s them over a grill fueled by the brimstone the emanates from his pores.

     Ever notice that Rumsfeld looks tall? His big giant head, swollen with hate and evil, gives the illusion that he’s somehow 6’2″ but really, he’s shorter than Bush.

     Probably his head is filled with lies, and lies, and lies, and there lies a cemetary of the lives he’s taken.

     I hope he’s crying over his huge stock depreciations. I hope he’s suffering post-Wall Street crash disorder. He has been the epitome of n-e-o-c-o-n — stealing from the Treasury, enriching himself and amassing power.

     And yes, good by Paraguay, but manegee is right, the US plays tough in South America.

   TPM – GOP candidate Michele Bachmann unplugged by her own

   A Republican source has confirmed to Election Central that the NRCC is indeed pulling all its advertising for Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), whose antics since her McCarthyist rant on Hardball have quickly put this once-safe incumbent in serious danger. Several hundred-thousand dollars worth of TV time had previously been reserved on Bachmann’s behalf, but now it has all been cancelled.

   Bear in mind that Bachmann was heavily favored to win re-election before this whole mess happened, but since then her Democratic opponent has received $1.3 million in online donations and another $1 million in commitments from the DCCC. The national party is now directing its attention to other races.

    John McCain has been the beneficiary of socialized medicine his entire life.

    He’s never paid a medical bill in his entire life.
