Glenn Beck just announced on his radio program that Obama has only 120 electoral votes in the bag while John McCain has 139. Somehow I find that comforting.

Glenn Beck’s audience deserves what they get.
At first I thought that Beck was passing on that ridiculous Bill O’Reilly map from earlier this week, but the BillO map actually has Obama 183/McCain 189. So Beck must be doing something even dumber than Bill. Probably saying that unless there’s a 20 percent margin it’s “too close to call” or some other nonsense like that.
But you’re right – it’s comforting. Now we just need to have Bill Kristol come out and say that McCain has this thing totally wrapped up and I may begin to believe that Obama actually has this thing won 🙂
On Huffington Post from Kristol with Jon Stewart:
Kristol also predicted that McCain would “win huge,” but that even if Barack Obama does pull it off, he will be a “conventional” president.”
So have we finally reached the embarrassment level where everybody finally acknowledges that Beck belongs in a psych ward, not national TV? If he wants to peddle delusions he should try writing finance industry ads or something.
It’s pretty obvious what’s going on here. The right-wing propaganda machine is 1) trying to lay the groundwork for claims that the election was “stolen” by ACORN, and 2) trying like hell to keep enthusiasm up on their side.
This has the potential to be an unmitigated disaster for the Repubs. I think we’ll have to go back to Ike in ’52 for comparable results for this election. Eisenhower doesn’t get much credit for the landslides he had – Obama is teetering on the same historic lines.
As a side note, I am both impressed and envious of the right-wing echo chamber. They have mastered the art of propaganda and taken it to levels that Goebbels would be proud of. Both in terms of discipline and psychological effect.
What the left needs to do is not try to match them, but work to educate people about how they ARE being propagandized, and how to resist it.
It’s funny — there’s one thing where I totally agree with the wingnuts: their demand that critical thinking be part of the curriculum in public schools at every grade level. They obviously mean something different than I do, but a nation of citizens armed with the habits and skills of critical thinking would do more than anything else to destroy wingnut (and corporate) propaganda success.
Beck is arguing that McCain is going to win some Kerry states that Obama is polling from 10-25 points ahead with McCain running no ads or having little GOTV operation in? These guys should have to put up their own money when they say these things and lose it when they are dead wrong.
